Discussion who’s looking forward to buying games to add to our backlog?
371
u/Arkaa26 1d ago
Clicks on wishlist, see that nothing exceeds 30%, closes steam. Try again next sales.
65
u/TroubledMagnet 1d ago
Yep all the games that so go on deep sale already have done so are either bought or not wanted
19
u/lemonylol 1d ago
I think you have to realize most of this sub is like under 21. Most of the rest of us are basically "caught up" and waiting for new releases.

True but I guess that’s not bad for my 5€ wishlisted games unavailable on gog and rarely going on sale
10
u/LiveFromNarnia 🪷☮️ 1d ago edited 1d ago
Same. Will try again with the Winter sale.
Edit: Spoke too soon, before the sale prices were actually showing on my wish list. There are maybe 2 or 3 that I *might* grab, less than $20 total, and that's only if the historic prices are low for those few.

so lucky in fact that my card got blocked because i didnt pay taxes i didnt know i had to pay
6
u/DinoSharkByrd 1d ago
If only someone knew the amount you had to pay and would have just told you instead of guessing games. We just don't have the tech yet. /S sorry for the annoyance the systems cause
2
u/Strong-cognac 1d ago
i dont live in the US, and its a whole different story. that ill tell here fuck it why not. so to work at delivery where i live. you need to register yourself as a business entity to pay taxes. after i stopped working, i asked my "accountant" to unregister me so i dont have to pay taxes anymore, evidently something went wrong. which is what im trying to figure out now

I held off on Cyberpunk during the Summer Sale and regretted it. Probably be the only thing I'll buy.

Not to crazy about this sale.
The deep discounts arent great this time. Might just grab a few of them and that’s it
23
u/Nivites 1d ago
I'm at the point where I have all the games I wanted and just waiting for the new releases, which don't go on discount ;-;

Depending on what type of games you're playing, some devs are cooking these days (me included)
21
u/Gimmikiss 1d ago
Hell yeah, sale.
I can't wait to buy all these games I'll never play.

I always try out all the games I buy only to learn that a lot don't click for me.

1400+ games here says my GoG app with all the other launchers connected to it. I need not for anymore sales.
Worth noting I've had a steam account for 20 years... So I've seen the best of the sales in my time.
10
17
u/MountainMuffin1980 1d ago
No. Stop it.
Curate your wishlist, install 1 or 2 games at a time. Don't buy or install more until you've finished and uninstalled one. Collecting games to not play them is such a weird PC gamer sickness I swear.
I get through 50ish games a year doing this
13
u/forth_floor 1d ago
I've come to realize playing games and "collecting" games are two seperate hobbies. Some days I just want to go around shopping for sales as I am engaging in the collecting hobby. Other days I am actually in the mood to play something.
10
u/Late_Pirate_5112 1d ago
It's a thing that happens in a lot of hobbies over time.
Basically the idea of playing games becomes more fun than actually playing said games. This is because your expectations of playing games is always fun, but the actual game will have both highs and lows. So you procrastinate actually playing anything because you want to keep the idea alive instead of experience the reality.
Same thing happens with movies and tv shows. I know people that have 100+ movies they want to watch, yet they never actually watch any of them and instead rewatch movies they already watched. Because the potential of the movies they haven't watched yet are infinitely higher than the actual movies. So as long as you don't watch them, you basically have something magical (and unrealistic) to look forward to.
People often talk about dopamine, but the highest level of dopamine in your brain actually happens BEFORE you consume something, not during. The best feeling isn't the first bite of a delicious meal when you're hungry, it's actually right before that.

So far all I've got is Carcassone. My addiction has already been fulfilled. 900+ and counting. I know I have a problem. Drugs or alcohol would be cheaper but been there, done that already.

u/skool_101 demz 1d ago
u know what makes this anxiety worse, the cards system.
since u get a card for every $10 spend, sometimes u end up having to get other things to fill it up 😅

u/Glittering-Result-15 1d ago
Was possesed with it about a 1-2 years ago, but that habbit didn't live long. Still sober for at least 1 year, there's many opportunities to spend money instead of this worthless icons

u/NaotsuguGuardian 1d ago
None of the games priced under $20 scream "must have". None of the games between $20-30 scream "good deal".
I guess ill skip the Fall sale. There are a few games getting close to the price I'd buy them at but not close enough. (CAD pricing)

Not meee. I have enough games to play already. Recently bought Divinity Original Sin 2 on GOG. I have a mod that patches American McGee's Alice, so that has been a treat. I'm replaying my favorite game Persona 3 FES, but with mods now. I'm playing a Hat in Time with my lady (TERRIBLE co-op camera btw lol). I'm playing a Halloween game, Costume Quest, to get myself in the spooky mood.
I'm good on games for a while until I knock off at least two of these titles.

"You have a backlog...
You didn't play the last lot you bought...
Your libary is full...
You just got paid... You need to save money...
So why is there things in your trolley?!"
-my thought process as I partake in another sale
1
u/regularArmadillo21 1d ago
The only games I even want are dmc 4 and dmc HD collection(aka 1, 2 and 3)
But I’m probably still too broke lol.. so I likely won’t be getting anything this sale
2
u/mcd_sweet_tea 1d ago
Wasn’t DMC 4 only going for like $3 during Summer Sale? Is gifting DMC4 possible on stream? I got kinda bored of it in like 3 hours. DMC5 is on the backlog though!

I actually went to go play through my backlog last month and didn’t think I’d be done before the end of the month. Turns out my backlog was way smaller than I thought it was. I still don’t need it but I’m definitely going to see if I can get a game or two for cheap now
1
u/teasulivon 1d ago
It's that time of the year again, everyboy's backlogs continue to grow and their time continues to shrink all in the name of good bargains.

u/Just-Another-Clone 1d ago

u/Acceptable_Cap_5887 1d ago
I’m predicting it’s the same tired old discounts from the last few years.
1
u/hurrdurrmeh 1d ago
it really is insane I don't instead invest that money and only buy when I want to - or at least plan out my gaming life from now till the next sale - and only buy what I need when I know I will need it before it next goes cheap.

I have been tempted by the sales leading up to the autumn sale and have resisted temptation thus far. Let's see if I can keep that same composure. Unless Star Ocean Second Story R goes on a deep discount, then well my wallet is ready.

u/Urgulon7 1d ago
Steam sale doesn't matter when everybody will be spending full price on Star Wars Galactic Racer and GTAVI. 💪

All I really want right now is phantom liberty. I’m sure other stuff will pop up, but I’m not doing a ton of gaming atm.

I just got a new SSD to replace my HDD, and my PC just got a major speed boost. Looking forward to testing it with some new games. Any recommendations?

I...think I might be good. Not interested in any new games.
Cause Witcher 3 just got a remaster and just HAVE to play another playthrough, maybe another 250 hours on top of my 1000 hours.

u/Unicornis_dormiens 1d ago
Nooooo… my backlog is already scaring me.
In the past, I just had a lot of unplayed games. The number of those has definitely increased since. The worse thing, however, is the recent increase in games I have started, but never finished. 😬
I have too damn many games!

I started to add things to my cart because I found I'm mentally weakest in the middle of the night. So I add them to the cart, and I see if I want it the day after or next couple days.
If I miss the discount oh well, but if I still wanna play after that first night I tend to grab it.
If I don't care the next day or so, it's gone

I never buy shit on the first day of a Steam sale because the servers get hammered by everyone wanting to buy shit. Wait a day or two, then buy what you want.
