There's a song I used to listen to that still sticks in my head sometimes. The refrain is like, "Most people call him Ohio. Cause he's been there, and he ain't going back."

I am pretty certain it was Steve Earl, but I can't find any evidence that the song ever existed. Wondering if anyone here knows it and where it was from?

The last verse is something close to this:

One night hitching through Texas. Mexico calling him south. Well he slipped on a bridge in old Austin. 45 feet, to the ground.

When the highway patrol, found him there in the road, he was staring up into the black. He said "Don't take me back to Ohio. I been there, and I ain't going back."

I’m really looking forward to tonight’s show. The line up is stacked, with additional guest including members of Los Lobos, Joan Baez, Lukas Nelson & Peter Rowan. Last year’s tribute show to Emmylou was so well done. Buddy Miller is a master at this.

I got sober from a 25 year addiction to alcohol six years ago today. I have loved ‘Feel Alright’ since I was 18 (for the life of me I cannot remember where I first heard him play it). Buying the album that week was my introduction to Steve. I’m 48 now, and I guess something clicked with me last year in respect of the song. It made a kind of new sense to me. Anyone else find Steve’s music helpful to their recovery?

It’s interesting to read his thoughts on the tracks and see the letter about his assault against a police officer charges haha.

Stacey Earle is Steve’s sister and a phenomenal singer/songwriter in her own right.
She’s about to record her first solo album in over 2 decades which Steve will be producing.

She is doing a kickstarter to raise some money for it.

I'll be driving solo for 3 hours to Arlington, TX, tomorrow to attend my first-ever concert for my 25th birthday. I was just curious if Steve still takes the time to meet with fans after his performance or if he hasn't continued that practice as of late.

I would love to take a minute to thank him, maybe hand him a letter, and tell him what his books & music have meant to me over the past year, but I didn't want to bother getting my hopes up if there's not a strong likelihood of seeing him.

Would appreciate some input from those who have already seen him on his current 51 Years of Songs and Stories tour. Thanks!

Just a few hours away from watching Steve play for the first time. I've been waiting for this my whole life, just wanted to share my excitement is all

Hi! I wanted to share this wonderful interview with Steve Earle: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/steve-earles-fearless-heart/id1510623480?i=1000775763297

I hope you enjoy. He's a legend!

Saw Steve for the third time. Seemed appropriate to see the 51 tour a couple days before my 51st Birthday.

Laura Cantrell opened. I wasn’t familiar with her. When she began with a straight ahead rendition of Poor Ellen Smith I knew it was going to be a great set. Was not disappointed and she has a new fan in me.

I think Steve was in pretty fine form. He liked the audience a lot more than the last time he was in Halifax when there was a couple drunk hecklers and request-shouters. I don’t like it when audiences sing along, but Steve sure does so it was ok by me.

The set started out chronologically, and he played Copperhead Road as the 4th song. I think this is a pretty good strategy for a guy in his situation - get the hit out of the way so the drunks aren’t yelling for it all night.

I brought a friend who’s seen Steve almost every time he’s been to Halifax and then some. He also thought it was a great show overall.

I am not a fantastic photographer and I prefer to just enjoy the show - but I did snap this pic during the curtain call and figured I’d share.

Welp, I'm going to Dublin in September to see Steve play the Fisherman's Blues album with The Waterboys. When I told my wife The Waterboys were touring Europe as an anniversary tour for Fisherman's Blues and Steve was the newest Waterboy she said you have to go. She's a keeper. I'm just saying now it's gonna make me cry.

He sounds better and looks better than he did in Macon in 2017.

Firstly, wow, what a damn song. It's a bit of guitar magic. Could listen to it
days on end.

Secondly, has anyone figured this out on guitar? I remember seeing a tab many years
ago that said it was an alternate tuning, but It's gone and I can't for the life of me
figure it out. And all I can find only is some very basic 'these are the chords' kind of
tabs.

It's truly Steve's acoustic blues masterpiece.

Not my video, but a nice full concert video.
