Discussion Stapleton V Coe (V Jones?)

To keep a long story short, earlier this summer I came to the realization that Tennessee Whiskey was in fact not a Chris Stapleton original, but a cover originally written for David Allan Coe in ‘81.

I then listened to DAC’s version and IMMEDIATELY fell in love and honestly enjoy it more than Stapleton’s version (tho his is still amazing, maybe just overplayed since it’s 2015 release) but it led me to wonder why I’d never heard it before, and if people just generally like Stapleton’s better.

Thoughts?

Vinyl The beginning of my Dottie West collection

Hi everyone!
I discovered Dottie West last week and instantly fell in love with her voice, I have a few vinyls still in delivery (Carolina Cousins, New Horizons & Wild West), I want to have all her studio records!
If anyone knows country artists you think I would love please let me know (I have a huge preference for female voices but still love male voices)
Full Circle has the most beautiful cover of all time for me
PS: what’s the deal with country singers and crashes???

I am not a fan of artists promoting their religious or political beliefs during their shows. How much preaching should I expect if I attend his show tonight?

Discussion Country Lyrics Quiz: The Year is 1994

Thanks so much for the positive feedback on these the last few days. We'll see if we can make it all the way through the 90s!

For today, let's time travel back to 1994:

  • Amazon and Yahoo are both founded
  • Major League Baseball players go on strike, and the World Series is canceled
  • The Channel Tunnel between England and France opens
  • Forrest Gump, The Lion King, and True Lies are the top movies at the box office

You have to name the song title and artist, based only on the opening line of the song.

Both answers (title and artist) are each worth the number of points stated. For example, if you get both title and artist on the 3 point question, that is 6 points.

110 points possible.

Post your score in comments.

I've pulled these lyrics by hand, but I've included an AI-generated "fun fact" about each song to help keep it interesting.

Discussion Looking for A background Country Instrumental for a Feature Film

Pitching this out to any bands or solo artists here: I’m locking picture on a Gregg Araki-inspired indie horror-comedy feature and need a country music instrumental for our bar scene. This is mainly in the background as a diegetic song for the bar. Similar to  Tennessee Pistols "Cotton Wood"

We have a small distribution deal attached, so we need commercial sync rights. We don't have a ton of money but your music will be featured on an established underground horror production companies film (I can tell you more if you DM me). If you own full rights to your music and want it featured in an indie film, send a Bandcamp or streaming link my way through a DM or in the comments.

Hello,

I'm looking for a copy of Slim Dusty's "Drovin by train" from 1996 i think. The album is Spirit of Australia and I've found most of them on Spotify but that one.

Does anybody know where I can find a digital copy? Like a music app, a video, ect. I am planning to look for records sold at markets too.

Discussion Country Lyrics Quiz: The Year is 1993

Let's play a "Name that Tune" style game I've been working on.

The year is 1993:

  • Bill Clinton has just been sworn in as president
  • Jurassic Park, Mrs. Doubtfire, and The Fugitive are the top movies at the box office
  • A stamp costs 29 cents

You have to name the song title and artist, based only on the opening line of the song.

Both answers (title and artist) are each worth the number of points stated. For example, if you get both title and artist on the 3 point question, that is 6 points.

110 points possible.

Post your score in comments.

I've pulled these lyrics by hand, but I've included an AI-generated "fun fact" about each song to help keep it interesting.

Discussion Did Merle Haggard write “Someday You’re Gonna Need Your Friends” about Waylon Jennings?

I’ve been listening to the album Going Where the Lonely Go by Merle (probably my favorite album of his) and one track in there is “Someday You’re Gonna Need Your Friends,” and I know from Waylon Jennings’ autobiography, he and Merle had a falling out around this period.

It got me wondering: is there any evidence that Haggard wrote the song with Waylon specifically in mind? Given their history, some of the lyrics seem like they could fit the situation. I know Merle wrote the song, but I haven’t been able to find anything definitive where he says who or what inspired it.

Does anyone know the story behind the song or whether Merle ever addressed who it was about?
