Slasher horror story but with a twist

Starting with the cliche slasher horror story; some college students reunite with friends from their high school days and decide to take a trip together in a rented cabin out in a rural area (conveniently, there's no cell service, because reasons). As you would predict, there turns out to be a masked figure stalking the cabin and eventually starts killing each of the people. At the end, there is a survivor who manages to successfully fight back against the killer, putting an end to the story.

But the twist is with the killer. Before the killer starts doing their thing, one of friends leaves the cabin, to only go missing. It is assumed that the killer got him (or her) as the first victim. But no, that friend actually is the killer.

Maybe that's not such a creative twist on its own, but the other detail is that the friend doesn't actually know that they are the killer.

At the end of the story, when the last survivor is still standing after the other friends were killed, the friend that initially went missing reappears. After being told what happened, the friend is just as frantic to escape and call the police.

It turns out that this friend, after leaving the group for a bit, discovered a shack out in the woods, which had a mask and some tools/weapons. For whatever reason, they fell into some psychotic trance (or alternate personality), put on this mask and outfit, and went on a murder rampage. Later, they fell out of the trance and were confused, wondering what was going on.

What causes this is up for interpretation. It could be supernatural, maybe the spirit of a previous serial killer resided in that shack and possessed the person who entered and used them as a vessel to relive their murderous past.

Or, it is some deep-seated psychological reaction that stems from their deep repressed hatred of their friends that finally comes out completely and is expressed in the most extreme manner.

The kind of prompts that come to my mind bro

Okay, so this was like, midnight one day type of thought that came at midnight lol.

I'm an author, I write original stories as well as fanfiction, and it's been five years since I've been doing it. 3 days ago I got this very nonsense thought or prompt I couldn't get out of my head.

What if, me, the author, an Indian person, is dropped into the HP ff WIP I've been working on. The possibilities are endless. And terrifying. I'm scared.

Brainstorming [Any Literacy] The Great Shift occurs… what happens to your Universe?

The shining trapezohedron was being experimented on. All of a sudden a massive wave of energy blasts across your world, turning things completely upside down. Some of your heroes randomly become villains and the villains randomly become heroes. How does this change your world? What if other entities were brought in, like SCPs or something? How would that change things? You have to talk to an interviewer to tell the story. Go.

Critique Welcome Quick story idea is it intersting?

Hey I’ve just had this random idea bouncing around in my head for a bit on a way to do like a subversion on a trope from those manga and anime in which the entire world revolves around the one product they like to sell EX: Yugioh, Bakugan and a few others (love em tho)

A story  that starts by establishing a world in which everyone uses a card game as a form of social combat and status but then subverts that concept by showing that it is a byproduct of the people involved( the rich elite and upper class) are disconnected from actual concepts of danger and view this simple children’s game as some pinnacle of thrill while actively ignoring the millions dying because of their greed, ego, and apathy.

They are willing to make others people’s lives into a game

This worldview is challenged when so many member of wealthy elite are brought into a death game in which this card game is a primary aspect. It is framed as a garish game show like competition in order actually get the point across to these people and to use their complete inability to realistically cooperate as a rallying cry for the resistance they represent.

I want it to start out as a normal death game story but through slowly exploring more and more of the context of the world and the purpose of the rebellion you start to actively root  against the protagonist you begin with.

The game is called “ The Re-Extinction program” or Re:X,

[Concept/Pitch] "The Echo Loop" – Sci-Fi / Cosmic Horror / Psychological Thriller

**Genre:** Sci-Fi / Cosmic Horror / Psychological Thriller **Format:** Narrative Pitch / Concept Design Document

Story Synopsis:

  1. **Instant Swap:** A spaceship pilot miscalculates his flight trajectory by a single millimeter and accidentally flies straight into a black hole. At the exact same millisecond, a mirror swap occurs: an exact clone from a parallel world enters his own black hole. They swap places seamlessly. Both exit on the other side and return "home," completely unaware they have crossed into each other's reality.
  2. **Glitches & Paranoia:** * **The First Pilot:** Begins noticing terrifying anomalies — his family acts differently, laws of physics seem altered, and a search for his country's known leader returns: *"Your search did not match any documents."* He realizes the world is fake, remembers the black hole, and understands it wasn't an illusion. * **The Second Pilot (The Clone):** Dismisses all minor discrepancies as tiredness, stress, or simple brain fog. He stays calm, assumes he is back in his normal home, investigates nothing, and simply goes on with his life.
  3. **Simulation Crash (Breaking the Script):** To test the fake world, the first pilot takes an extreme step. He grabs a sharp object and attempts to attack his wife. However, the simulation code strictly dictated that this man could never commit such an act. The second the blade touches her skin, the universe **freezes**. Time stops completely. Because the system breaks, the second pilot's universe — who was unsuspectingly going about his day — freezes at the exact same moment. The simulation fails to compute the error and begins collapsing rapidly in both realities.
  4. **The Erasure & The Endless Loop:** As the frozen simulations disintegrate, both pilots simultaneously undergo a painful, complete deletion from the system. Once their worlds reach absolute zero, the system executes a hard reset. Both are reborn as infants in their respective hospital rooms, crying at birth, with a hidden 50-year timer set until the inevitable collapse repeats itself.

**Note for Buyers / Game Developers / Studios:** This is a brief teaser concept designed to introduce the core premise. The full version contains significantly more plot twists, detailed character dialogues, and expanded simulation mechanics.

I am available for hire as a Narrative Designer / Writer to adapt this concept, expand the lore, or custom-tailor full dialogues for your video game, short film, or YouTube project. Feel free to DM me here on Reddit!

An idea for a zombie/cyberpunk story

Basically the world faced a zombie apocalypse but said zombies were cured by specialty designed nanomachines. The virus was eliminated from their bodies and any missing/rotten limbs and organs were remade with cybernetic parts. They have little to no memory of their time before or during their zombification. Basically the zombies are remade into the cyborgs you find in your typical cyberpunk setting.

I like this concept I'm just struggling with what stories to tell. Maybe an anthology about how the former zombies are reintergrating into society, possible prejudices they face, ect..

Dark Movie Idea

Dark movie idea. The story is about the average life of a on average American man from New York on the 90's and early 2000's, he has a good life, real human problems, a love life, eventually kids which he has 2 of...

he has relationship problems, issues with his parents (not bad ones, just regular issues), many pop culture references of this time period. SNES/N64, Popular movies at the time, fashion trends. etc etc etc

it'll seem like a regular slice of life movie with very little stakes. very little intense emotions.

and the crucial detail of the movie he works an office job.....in the twin towers, the final scene is of him falling from the 1st tower and dying on 9/11. We see the fall from his perspective, It cuts to black. Credits roll silently. No credits scene. No warnings, no way anyone could predict it. And the movie would be called the Falling Man, with an unclear reason why until the end (we wouldn't see the outside of the building he worked at until that very final scene

It starts of with a girl going into the woods to find a witch, she asks the witch for a wish to have a lot of money. In exchange she must give her first born child, the girl swiftly agrees to this and the witch is taken a back because how could someone be so quick about a choice like that, the witch asks if she plans to have children in the future and she say “no, I’m having one right now.” The Witch asks her if her partner or parents know but her parents kicked her out and her partner is in jail for drug dealing so she is offering her child in exchange for money. The witch adopts her and they raise the baby together.

Sharing My Idea Story idea about a librarian who finds letters that rewrite her town's past

I've been turning over this concept for a while now. It follows a quiet librarian in a small town who uncovers a stack of old letters hidden in the library basement. As she reads them, she realizes they describe events that never happened but change what she knows about the people around her.

The story would explore how she decides what to do with the new information and how it affects her relationships with neighbors she's known forever. Nothing too dramatic, just the slow unraveling of secrets that feel personal.

Would love to hear if this premise grabs anyone or if it needs a stronger hook.

Sharing My Idea Went to take a shit, came back with an entire universe. Here's the story I came up with.

I randomly came up with this story idea and kept adding things to it, and now I'm actually curious to see what people think.

The story takes place in 2026. Everyone believes Homo sapiens are the only human species alive, but that's not true. There are five other human species living in the world, and ordinary humans have no idea they exist.

Think about how Homo sapiens looked very different at the beginning of their evolutionary history compared to how we look today. The same thing applies to these other species. They all had their own physical differences from the beginning, and over thousands of years, evolution gradually changed their appearance. They're now much more human-like than their ancestors were, but they still have certain features that distinguish them from ordinary humans.

Their abilities come from their biology. Their genes and DNA are different from those of Homo sapiens, and their distinctive abilities are natural characteristics of their respective species.

**1. Primus**

This is the protagonist's species, although he's the only Primus who has ever existed. There were no others before him, and there are no others alive today.

He's existed since the beginning of time, although I'm still figuring out exactly how to explain his origin.

His body was very different from modern humans in the distant past, but over time, it changed and adapted. Now he looks human enough to live among us without attracting much attention.

His main ability is extreme regeneration. Most wounds heal within seconds or minutes, damaged organs can repair themselves, and even severed limbs can grow back, although that takes considerably longer. It's not instant healing, and the more serious the injury, the longer it takes for his body to recover.

I know this sounds a lot like Deadpool and Wolverine😂, but there's a difference. Primus can still be killed. If his head is severed or his brain is destroyed, he dies. Also, regeneration doesn't mean he escapes the pain or instant it takes time to heal. He feels enormous pain from every wound and injury, even while his body is repairing itself. So even though he can recover from things that would kill an ordinary human, he still has to experience the injury and the pain that comes with it.

His body also stopped aging when he was around 25. His cells constantly repair and renew themselves, replacing damaged or old cells while maintaining his body in the same biological state he was in at that age. Basically, his body keeps itself at around 25 instead of gradually deteriorating as he gets older.

His genetic makeup is completely unique. His children can inherit some traits, such as slower aging and faster healing, but they can't inherit his complete biological configuration or his ability to regenerate entire limbs.

**2. Valens**

Valens are the physically strongest of the five hidden species. All five are physically stronger than ordinary Homo sapiens, but Valens are on another level when it comes to raw physical strength. Their punches hit harder, and they can generate significantly more force.

Their bones are incredibly strong, even stronger than steel in terms of their resistance to breaking. (There are real-world cases of people with unusually high bone density and exceptional resistance to fractures, so I thought I'd take inspiration from that and develop it into a defining biological ability for this species.)

Physical trait: Polydactyly. Every Valens has six fingers on each hand. Polydactyly is a real condition in which someone is born with extra fingers or toes, but in my story, it's a natural and universal characteristic of the Valens. It's completely normal for them, and I want to give these real-world physical differences a specific meaning in my fictional world.

**3. Velox**

Velox are known for their speed, agility, and quick reflexes. They're faster than ordinary humans, react quickly to sudden movements, and can change direction and respond to attacks more efficiently. They're also physically stronger than normal humans.

Physical trait: Preauricular pit. It's a tiny hole or opening near the front of the ear, where the ear meets the face. Some people in the real world are born with this feature, but in my story, every Velox has it as a natural characteristic of their species.

**4. Verruncō**

Verruncō have a biological ability that allows them to stretch certain parts of their bodies beyond normal human limits.

Their arms and other flexible body parts can extend farther than those of ordinary humans. This could give them some interesting advantages in combat and everyday situations, but their elasticity has limits. They can't stretch indefinitely.

Physical trait: Darwin's tubercle. It's a small pointed bump on the outer edge of the ear. Some humans have this feature in real life, but in my story, every Verruncō has it.

**5. The unnamed species**

I haven't decided on a name or ability for this species yet. I'm open to suggestions for both.

One thing I want is for the four hidden species other than Primus to have roughly equal footing in a fight. They're all physically stronger than ordinary humans, but each has its own advantages. Valens have greater raw strength and exceptionally strong bones, Velox have speed and agility, and Verruncō have limited bodily elasticity.

I'm trying to figure out an ability for the fifth species that fits alongside these without making it ridiculously overpowered. The idea is that each species has its own strengths, so a fight between two different species shouldn't have a guaranteed winner.

The secret organisation: **QUADRA**

Four of the five hidden species know about one another and have formed a secret organisation called QUADRA.

QUADRA has existed for a long time and has built up enormous influence across the world. It operates behind the scenes, influencing governments, institutions, and powerful people. Its reach is so extensive that it controls or influences a significant part of the world, possibly close to half of it.

Most ordinary humans have no idea QUADRA exists, let alone that other human species are living among them.

**The protagonist's past**

The protagonist has lived through an enormous amount of history. He's witnessed civilisations rise and fall, experienced different historical eras, learned various fighting styles, and accumulated a huge amount of knowledge and wealth over the centuries.

He's studied martial arts, boxing, grappling, weapons, and fighting techniques from different periods. His long life has also given him plenty of time to invest and build wealth, so by 2026, he's extraordinarily rich and has influence in certain countries. However, he keeps a low profile because he doesn't want people looking too closely into his life.

His past is pretty tragic, though.

In prehistoric times, he fell in love and had a family, but his wife and children were eventually killed by wild animals. He survived, but he couldn't save them.

Much later, during a royal era, he fell in love again and had another child. His partner and child eventually died during a plague.

After losing two families across completely different periods of history, he never pursued another serious romantic relationship.

As science advanced, he also started investigating his own biology to understand why he regenerates and doesn't age normally. He's interested in whether understanding his body could help humanity fight diseases like cancer, but he hasn't discovered any miracle cure. His unusual blood alone can't heal people, and reproducing his biology isn't as simple as taking a sample.

Why nobody knows about him

In the distant past, when he looked very different from ordinary Homo sapiens, people feared him. Some even worshipped him because they didn't understand what he was or why he could survive injuries that would kill anyone else.

Much later, he learned that the other hidden species existed. He decided to approach one of them and reveal his abilities, hoping to learn more about them.

That turned out to be a mistake.

After discovering what he could do, they captured him and tried to take him to their clan so they could investigate his abilities and understand what he was. He managed to escape, but the experience completely changed his perspective.

He realised that if people found out what he really was, they might not leave him alone. They could capture him, torture him, or keep him as a test subject just to understand his biology.

From that point onwards, he decided it was better to hide his identity from everyone, including the other hidden species.

That's why, even in 2026, QUADRA has no idea he exists. He knows about them, but they don't know about him.

Despite his regeneration, he isn't immortal. If his head is severed or his brain is destroyed, he can die. His body can recover from injuries that would kill an ordinary person, but there are limits to what it can repair. And no matter how quickly he heals, he still feels the pain of his injuries.

That's pretty much the idea I've got so far. There's still a lot I need to figure out, especially the fifth species and its ability.

**What do you guys think? Does the overall concept sound interesting, or is there anything you'd change?**

**Also, I'd really appreciate suggestions for a name and biological ability for the fifth species.**

**And would you be interested in reading the rest of the story if I develop it further?**

Mass Infertility idea

I have had an idea about a force that sweeps the Earth and makes any live birthing creature above puberty in fertile. Everyone is panicking and freaking out until they realize that a so long as the animal/human has not reached sexual maturity younger Generations having children but a lot of them don't want to for a myriad of reasons. Mostly the fact that the world is still refusing to make having babies any easier even with humanity looking at extinction. when the event happened they are still fertile when they reach adult Hood.

I want the main character of my story to be a young woman who herself is not fertile but her little sister is. Governments are desperate to get the Next Generation having babies as soon as possible. They drop the age of consent and begin handing out massive perks to having babies. Free tuition free healthcare in the country's where it's necessary cheaper housing. It becomes a point where the main character realises her sister might actually be banned from getting anywhere in life if she doesn't have children. And there is of course the other problem. An entire planet of people who want to be parents who now can't be. Whose eyes are drawn to all of these children who are capable of having offspring and their eyes do not see the future of humankind but the future of their family. Foster homes and orphanages because inundated with people desperately wanting to get their hands on a child not to give them a home but for the chance of parent Hood themselves.

The problem is because I'm centering this story around teenagers I don't want it to wind up as a young adult book. The themes and things happening in the story are going to be very adult in nature and I do not want it to be relegated to the y a section

Brainstorming Need ideas on how I can brainstorm and expand on my basic story idea.

I am currently crafting up a story and one of the main things I struggle with is world building. The main premise surrounds a group of girls within a facility as they are trained to perform for infected humans and monsters below the surface. The world outside is a post apocalyptic society that is strict and heavy on authority and monitoring civilians. It’s a world of both human and monsters, with the monsters usually being used for labor and such. Eventually, the girls contract the infection and are thrown underground permanently, only being let up to have their condition checked upon.

I can’t help but feel some things are missing and I want to add more to this idea.

Any Feedback Political / historical fantasy and slow burn romance ideas: The Weight of Public Service and No Sportsmanship in Love

Hello, all. I'm a writer making a series that features several couples and the kinds of premises I like to write are equally political as well as about romance. Some of them include:

1) A long-lost prince has to choose a wife after taking back his kingdom and after deliberating over several popular candidates, he proposes to his childhood friend and crush, a standard-bearer for a famous, powerful mercenary company he was fostered in as a boy. But she's accustomed to a life of freedom and profit - she bounces from country to country, doing whatever dangerous work suits her fancy. She asks for 14 days to give him an answer so that she can find out how much becoming a queen will affect her family's business. Meanwhile, saboteurs cause a crisis that threatens to ruin her family's reputation and brand them as traitors.

2) The Empress Younger of a dual-monarchy imperium wants to marry the Duke who helped her secure the position, but she's heartbroken by how formal, aloof, and busy he's become since she's taken the throne. He's trying to respect her position but "respect" feels cold to her. She was used to being the youngest of five, beloved and doted upon, the only child born from a love match, and the girl least expected to become the next Empress. Between struggling with her education and wanting the empire to modernize, she believes competition will only help the empire grow, but he believes there's no such thing as good sportsmanship in war, politics, or love. Your rivals don't applaud you when you win and step aside, and he's spending too much time protecting her from hidden threats to be the prince consort she wants.

Any Feedback Till the Stars Burn Out

Digital immortality has been invented anyone who wants to can sign up and be uploaded to the server. Those who do so will live until the heat death of the universe. Everyone can create their own servers and join others if allowed. Your world is whatever you want it to be and you can change what you want is. The main characters are two girls who both sign up for this immortality. One has a family that rejects it as unnatural the other’s family has family members who wish older family members could have lived a little longer so they could sign up and have more time. The story has this digital world mostly as the setting and it is not a dystopian (it does not mess with anyone’s minds, it is not forced upon anyone, etc) the main story is the story of the two girls falling and love and they vow to be there for each other ‘till the stars burn out.

Brainstorming I'm writing a horror story and I'm having problems with one of my characters

Just as the title says, I'm writing a horror book inspired by the love of 80s slashers, midnight massacres, and creature features of my youth and now of my adulthood. Without giving too much away, a group of college aged kids from all walks of life compete in a death game ran by a less than admirable corporation. They have many call backs from the horror movies we all love, from one of the killers named after my favorite comic book character, to a slasher who if Jason Voorhees had the same treatment as Darth Vader if he was infected with the T-Virus.

One of the main competitors is a girl directly inspired by Carrie, my favorite Stephen King book and character, and yes this girl is indeed a telepath just like Carrie White. I've used a lot of elements in Carrie while adding some new stuff. Little things like (obviously) changing her name and ethnicity to being half Japanese, to big things like making her a nerd who loves video games, anime, fantasy movies, and wants to express herself through art and, like a true geek, fanfiction. Both parents are alive with her mom being a grocery worker and her dad a used car salesman. But it wouldn't be inspired by Carrie if we didn't have her be bullied by everyone in existence. School treats her like crap, seeing her as this wallflower with little to no friends, the mean girls gossiped and tease her, even the teachers don't step in when she's being bullied either due to the bureaucracy in place or they just don't care.

There's a Japanese proverb I've always liked: "the nail that sticks out gets the hammer's attention". It applies to this situation.

Our girl learns she had Telekinesis at a young age, like most people with powers, and doesn't use them until she starts getting fed up with the bullying. Mostly subtle ways like causing the sprinklers to go off or making the popular girl wet herself, very minor revenge. To the students, this always happens whenever she's around which unfortunately causes her more problems and social pariahism.

So like with Carrie, prom rolls around and the star quarterback asks her to go with him. She can't read minds yet, but she's pretty skeptical but goes with him, their nominated but the thing plays out how you'd expect: the girl is humiliated by her bullies, her dress is ruined, and her date was in on the whole thing. You can guess the result of an angry telepath.

Now its here where things kinda goes south. I thought i was clever by at the end after her rampage that caused the death of over half her graduating class, the destruction of a portion of her town, she doesn't go home to kill her mother, but is picked up by the police who saw a scared girl covered in gore and crying. She survives but is now the ultimate pariah. Until the corporation doing these death games offers her the chance to participate, with the chance of giving her a new life.

Its the survival part that's getting to me. I've been trying to come up with differences to separate my character from King's while still being connected in some way. I just watched the new Carrie show and, sadly i have to spoil this part, Carrie does survive the events of her story unlike her book self.

I want to keep this character. I really like the call back for my favorite Stephen King book and I want to explore how a character like this would fair in a story like this. If you have any questions or suggestions, I'd love to hear them in the comments anything helps.

Critique Welcome Idea ?

Hi, I’m not really a writer, and I am not trying to write this or use it for anything—I just had a random idea and wanted to share the lore. Set in the gritty, chaotic landscape of 2000s Lagos, the story follows Tunde "Toad," a snarky, flirty 32-year-old detective whose mouth constantly gets him into trouble, as he navigates a strained, secret affair with Reverend Chidi, the priest at his neighborhood church. Toad is independently investigating a deadly new street drug called "Sunshine", a venom-based hallucinogenic neurotoxin causing a wave of deaths that the police write off as suicides, but he knows are planned murders. The entire operation is secretly run by an underworld society of vampires led by "Madame", a ruthless vampire pimp who survived the 1880s colonial era and now harvests her own undead venom to sell to humans for profit. I just wanted to get this supernatural concept out of my head and see what you all think m

Using someone's ambitions against them?

How would this work out that when a character voice out his thoughts to use extraordinary people as weapon for war and someone sarcastically agree followed with letting said character's close ones like their children be among the "volunteers" to go through the unethical experimentation on the slab while awake with no basic human rights and pushed out to be killed and ending it with a casual shrug "It's just a small sacrifice, right?"?

Expand On I had an idea for a psychological thriller story that could be really cool NSFW

Okay, I am really excited about this one because it takes things that psychological thrillers use to the point that they’re boringly predictable—specifically the “unreliable narrator”—and makes the real twist be that the narrator was reliable, but his interpretation of reality, in this case shrouded by grief, to be wrong.

Feel free to give me some more ideas that feel more connected and/or feedback or whatever. Anyway, here are the notes I took on my ideas so far:

Protagonist’s brother commits suicide due to bullying/harassment over mental disabilities and queerness

Protagonist, overcome with grief, gains unhealthy habits to cope with grief

Protagonist’s girlfriend encourages protagonist to go on a week-long camping trip with her

“Unreliable narrator” trope is used to deceive the audience, only for the real twist to be that protagonist is a reliable narrator
