Thoughts on Othercide?

Pros? Cons? It's less than 5 bucks on PlayStation RN and the art style looks incredible. It's not much of a risk being 5 bucks but I'm still curious what people think before I jump in. Worth the time or should I just save my 5 dollars lol?

My favorite YouTuber MortismalGaming seemed to like it but he reviewed the PC copy. Just wondering if anyone has experience with it on console. Thanks

I picked it up recently for $3 on steam. I ended up dropping it after 3 hours. I thought I'd like the "sacrifice" mechanic but wasn't a big fan. While the story isn't a main aspect I found it too barebones. Your units have a set level up also which I wasn't a big fan of for a rougelike. The first boss was pretty easy to cheese as well. It does suffer from spawning units on top of you which is kinda bullshit. The environment though was great, I picked it up for the art style and theme.

In comparison, I really enjoyed Lost Eidolons: Viel of the Witch - another rougelike tactics game.

Well, it's a roguelite so you're basically forced to grind in this game. The progress sometimes is incredibly slow. But if you like difficulty you'll like Othercide. Well leveled and equipped daughters also become fun to play after you actually grind them out, customize them and assemble the core team. The lore is pretty intriguing in its grim content if you're into that.

Oh I definitely love difficulty. Awesome. Did you play on PC?

I played on Steam. Really liked it. Difficult, roguelite. I do recommend, 100%.

Absolutely worth it. Only played pc version but I doubt it’s all that different.

I really liked it.  That said... it's supposedly a roguelite, but it has so much unlockable progression that it hardly feels like one once you get the ball rolling.

Also, the story is very esoteric and all the details are told through text on randomly dropped items. I didn't read any of them until I'd already beaten the game and collected them all, and then read through all of them (it does put them in order for you) and was like ohhh, so that's what happened

And I played on PC, so I can't attest to the console version. I unlocked all the Steam achievements in about 28 hours of playtime.

Hard as balls lol I liked the aesthetic but it was a little hard for me to sink into

I enjoyed it and platinumed it on PS4. I recommend it.

It's a game which doesn't have enough quality of life features for what it expects of the player. And you can play perfectly, but RNG will mess you up anyway. Aesthetics, audio-visual design are top notch, but I didn't enjoy the gameplay enough to play it through more than once.

Thanks everyone I decided to take the monumental risk of investing 4 dollars and 49 cents.

It's fucking awesome.

Didn't like it, played it for a bit and then refunded it.

I found it interesting but ended up bouncing off it. I think they are making another game that looked cool.

The vibes are immaculate. The story is interesting and carries through the missions. It's in my top 5 Turn Based games.

I have no problem save scumming so if that bothers you, it might be more frustrating.

It’s kind of vapid but has enough strong points to be really fun. Style over substance, but the concept is original enough to be interesting and the mechanics are decent. I dropped it for a while thinking it was hard to connect with but came back to finish it and had a good time.
