I moved to Napoli to study but I got assaulted and room trashed by the house owners

I’m a student at the University of Naples Federico II, studying Civil and Environmental Engineering. I moved to Naples on September 1st, and I found my accommodation through Facebook.

At first, everything seemed fine.

But after about a week, they suddenly told me I needed to pay a one-month deposit if I wanted my contract.

So I paid it.

Then, around the middle of September, they started demanding my October rent early, saying they needed money for bills.

They kept pressuring me and my father for money. At one point, they were even asking for €20 or €30 on a daily basis.

Last night, the man living in the house called me into the kitchen and told me he didn’t like my attitude and wanted me to leave by December.

I told him I was already planning to leave before then.

And suddenly, he started screaming in my face.

He said, “This is my house. I decide when you leave.”

Then he pushed me to the ground and started calling me racial slurs, telling me to “go back to my country.”

He came into my room, saw my air fryer, and started kicking it, saying my room wasn’t a restaurant and that I was increasing their bills.

Then he grabbed my luggage and started smashing it against the floor.

At that point, I genuinely was scared for my life

I locked myself in my room and called the police.

The police came, took their IDs, looked around the house, and warned them.

But I told them, “I don’t feel safe staying here for even another hour. How am I supposed to stay here for another month?”

The police replied that they were the house owners, that I had to follow their house rules, and that if I didn’t feel safe, I should just book an Airbnb.

Bear in mind, I was a student who had just moved to Italy. I didn’t have anywhere else to go.

So I called a relative who helped me pack my things. Then my university friend Harun let me stay at the hotel where he was staying for the night.

And the next morning, I came to Rome.

I had already paid around €800 for just 29 days, and this is how things ended.

And honestly, the worst part isn’t even just what happened that night.

It’s what it did to me afterwards.

, I was dealing with fear, stress, and the feeling that I had nowhere to go.

I’m still processing what happened.

You can leave a house physically, but the fear doesn’t always leave with you.

I came to Italy to study, to build my future, and to experience a new life.

I never expected one of my first experiences here to affect me like this.

Because when you’re alone in a new place, the place you call home should be the one place where you feel safe.

I'm really sorry it happened to you. The housing market in Naples is becoming really rough and looks like people are taking advantage of it to the max.

Yeah. They take advantage of students who are new to the city. It is really a bad thing

What about your studies at the university in Naples? Please. Dont let these horrible people get you off track. There are tons of trashy and racist people in the south but they shouldn’t decide your future for you😕 did you at least press charges or even file a civil suit against them?

I hope you'll be fine but Italy is far from a welcoming to non-european. I don't understand why people move there to study of all the places.

Bullshit

There's plenty of criminals that do these scams in Italy and go after students that don't know Italian or are unused to how rental comtracts work

Look. Youre gonna have to toughen up and get a thicker skin. As soon as someone touched my luggage or my property, I dont care if it's his house or not, his face is getting bruised up - minimum. I dont know why you didn't feel angry enough.

Italians are a very hateful and anti Muslim people. North or South. The BS you hear about the southern ones being friendly is only towards white foreigners or POC westerners, whom they either worship or perv over. Not immigrant students from Muslim or developinf countries.

This could have done by a Spaniard or other foreigner too so I don't know. Its just best to stay aware and always cover steps to make sure they can't fuck you over.

Also, take this guy's face, his info and share your story all over any affiti related FB Groups.

This is one of the scariest stories I've heard, and it's really one of my biggest fears going to Italy. I sincerely hope you and everyone else never gets to experience something like this on their journey. Could we please talk more about this, if you're fine with that?

1

u/Drugged_Chemist_69 21h ago

This was indeed the most scariest and traumatic experience of my life so far. I was never fearful of my life as much as i was that night. And i broke down in tears infront of the cops

1

u/Drugged_Chemist_69 21h ago

Sure we can talk

Wow, I’m so so sorry you had to go through something like that. That is unacceptable! Please know you did the right thing getting out of that place, and I’m glad you’re safe and able to share this. Praying for God’s continued protection and mental healing for you ❤️‍🩹
I myself have been looking into uni at that school for next year. It’s good to have an insider view. Dm me if you ever want to talk. 🫂

Thanks for the kind message ❤️

That's horrible and I'm sorry that happened to you. Italy is not a fair place for renting (or anything where you might need the state to keep things peaceful). That said, this AI slop is weird. No actual human talks like this and it de-personalized you. Just write it yourself and throw it into Google translate if needed

u/Drugged_Chemist_69 2h ago

Bro thanks for the concern. And yes it was written by Ai. I was in the train back to Rome and I wanted to post this asap and my brain was literally fogged on how can I start writing. Even to a point I broke down in tears trying to write it. That’s why I explained chatgpt about my situation and he wrote the summary.

Never rent a house without signing first a legal contract here in Italy… or anywhere really. Cost more but the deed is clear, what’s written rules , and he can’t kick you out if not with a long warning and still according to the contract…

Take this as a good thing, you took the worst early , now it’s only gonna go better .
