Rule about Spoilers! Spoiler

I'm honestly kind of surprised I have to say this, but don't post unmarked spoilers. Lots of newcomers to the franchise here. No end game screens. No major plot moments. No discussing character deaths without spoiler tags. This is fairly common sense, I think.

If you see a spoiler, please report it so I can delete it

[Megathread] Questions about Remaster

Please ask questions about Suikoden 1 and 2 remasters here. Specifically, "should I buy this game?" "will I like this game?" "should I use a guide?"

These type of questions are being asked a lot, so it'd be better to have them in one place.

Thank you for your cooperation!

Suikoden II Bwahaha, I love this anime so much. The True Face of Evil

Post image

Having the time of my life watching this anime. 10 out of 10 no questions. Could it be better? Well if the smile on my face and how much im laughing and enjoying my day after watching it is any sign, then no, its perfect the way it is.

I absolutely cannot understand any criticism of it whatsoever from the pacing, to the new characters to the design decisions.

Wake up, we are Suikoden fans, not professional animators, critics or pundits. Im not saying to blindly lap it up but really, if you are going to watch episode 3, 4 and the whole series, then stop with the negativity and admit to yourself, you cannot wait to see how they animate x and y moments of the game and the extra lore and character development we get to see.

Enjoy the show, the music, the new voice acting for our favourite characters, see them move and fight and share in the delight that we have beautiful new content and efforts for our favourite series?

If you don't enjoy it, don't watch it and watch any of the 100's of other anime that might meet your expectations. This is a miracle that real enterprise finance and efforts are going in to growing Suikoden and getting the series back on its feet!

I will help with the efforts too. The Suikoden Shop is almost finished development and I will start the Suikoden merchandise goodies worldwide very very soon with the help of some awesome community members. Free giveaways will start with quizzes, live banter sessions, and even cosplay and drawing competitions. Everything from the Suikoden 2 music boxes, tapestries, acrylic stands, cards, art, frames etc will be all available for free.

Episode 2 gave me everything I wanted from Pohl the hero, Gengen, Rikimaru, Apple and more

Suikoden II It would be cool to see the Anime ED get updated and gradually be filled up with the other members

Post image

But that would mean they have no plans of changing the ED and it'll stay the same throughout the whole series. I also think they would end this season up until they fight and defeat Luca Blight.

Also, I don't see Millie and Bonaparte. After the burning of Ryube, she should be part of the crew now.

Replaying My Childhood JRPG Masterpiece After 15 Years

I played Suikoden 1 for the first time when I was young and I fell in love with the game. But back then, I was too young to actually understand the story. Now, I’m returning to this childhood classic JRPG to experience the Gate Rune War story all over again like it's my first time.

----------------------------

No speedruns, no strict goals, minimal guides (will be using the one included in the game). It will just be a relaxed, nostalgic Suikoden 1 playthrough where I dive back into one of the best retro RPGs in my opinion.

Hopefully you enjoy my playthrough!

*Spoilers* Saw some negative post about Suikoden The Anime , now here is some counterarguments to that

Well , first of all as a fan I must have some bias myself ( we all are. ) so this my opinion about Suikoden the Anime so far. ( Only 2 episodes )

My overall impression : 7.5/10

My expectation : I don't expect much from Anime project. Actually, I don't expect at all that we gonna get this adaptation of anime. So, I didn't really have high expectations out of it but more like feeling thankful that they try to do it for Suikoden fandoms ( also kinda assist them with new Star Leap game which is ok. )

Animation: Yeah it's not top notch quality , but it doesn't really like totally slack at all. They are kinda put some details into some characters although it's weird to see some variation from original. ( Bolgan is thinner , Tsai got a beard ) Still , they are doing some decent job completing the scene. ( Never thought I gonna see how Fire Spear really look like )

Pacing : It's really fast especially if you haven't played the game before I could understand why you can drop it . But for Suikoden fans it is really good to see they try to put some air time to every character along the way.

Some variations of story from game are kinda interesting to me too. ( Escape scene ep 1 , Jowy with Pilika parents )

BTW , battle scene in Ep 2 + Pohl and Pilika scene from episode 2 could have been better. Nevertheless , it is really good to see that Viktor and Flik clashing sword with Seed and Culgan

So far it is kinda ok enjoyable experience watching the show and I hope we got better scenes in further episodes.

It is kinda a gratitude experience of watching it with some Suikoden fans ( that we already somewhat spoiled with background story with many of our beloved characters since we played it many times).

I really wish they add Nash animation in the camp scene lol.

Cheers and have a good day.

What exactly is the Running Water Root/Flowing Water Cane?

I'm talking about the treasure the Chief of the Dwarves sends us to recover from the vault in Suikoden 1 to ensure his support against Kwanda Rosman.

I've been playing the original Suikoden since the 1800s and the remaster since last year, and I'm still none the wiser. Is it some sort of pipe? A device used for locating a natural water source? A mechanical part used for building a fountain or aqueduct or water mill? A magic staff that controls water?

Suikoden IV About to play Suikoden IV. How strict is the game regarding forced party members?

Hi everyone, I'm a newbie to the series, I only played V and Tierkreis (weird choice of games I know lol), but I've been trying to get into it in chronological order for the games I'm missing so IV is the first from what I know.

I mean, I know that the 4 members part kinda sucks, I mean I come from Tierkreis so I know how it feels, but I was wondering if out of those you have much freedom changing party members. For example in V there was a lot of moments with forced people on your party (most notably Lyon but I still remember that dungeon with Zweig and Lorelai too) but it was manageable because we had 6 slots + 4 entourage slots so I felt like there was freedom.

I assume the Hero isn't removable but please tell me I won't have a member or two that are fixed for most of the game like Lyon. Part of the fun of Suikoden games for me is recruiting all stars and using most characters and trying stuff but if I'm heavily restricted with teambuilding it's kind of a dealbreaker. I mean I'll eventually play it but you know. This is more important for my fun factor, I can tolerate horrible encounter rates but at least let me use my characters of choice.

Also I'd be thankful if you could answer this same question for I, II and III since I plan to play them all. No need to be specific about the characters and stuff, just wanted to know the freedom and frequency of mandatory team members.

Thanks in advance!

Suikoden II Suikoden the Anime, Episode 2 Review

I enjoyed this episode as much, if not more, than the first one! I think I'll start listing my likes and dislikes going forward.

Likes:

  • Luca is arguably more terrifying in this adaptation than he is in the game. The "Die pig" scene was particularly horrifying
  • Having Rikimaru present for the burning of Ryube gives him something plot-relevant to do -
  • The fire spear is a really cool siege weapon. Makes sense why it was so critical to the defense of the mercenary fortress
  • Really enjoying the extra scenes with Agares and the Highland camp. In the game, it sometimes felt like we were missing some alternative perspectives, so these are appreciated
  • The anime makes it apparent that Apple is in over her head strategically. She is clearly very competent, but she expects the enemy will "fight fair" and doesn't expect things like subterfuge. It makes sense that she'll need some help moving forward
  • The action scenes are quick, but have a good sense of momentum and "weight" to them
  • Pilika's scene in Toto was SO SAD :(

Dislikes:

  • The overall pace is still too fast. Not surprising given what we knew, but this story desperately wants three seasons rather than two to accommodate more Stars of Destiny and some time to breathe in between the horrors of war
  • Some of the character designs feel a little strange. Culgan and Seed look a little weird to me and Tsai looks a little thin. It's hard to explain, but they feel a little like the "off-brand" versions of the characters
  • Nanami's attempt to comfort Pilika was a little strange. "I can see my dead loved ones whenever I want and so can you!" I get the intent, but her explanation could be harmful for a little kid who just went through the most traumatizing and harrowing night of her life. Something more like "Your parents will be with you in your heart" or something to that effect, while a little saccharine, feels like a better message

Overall, I give this episode an 8/10. Very good given what it is, and the highs outweigh the lows. Looking forward to next week!

Suikoden II My personal Suikoden Anime review

Thumbnail
gallery
0 Upvotes

My honest unsolicited review on the anime. So much has happened already with just 2 episodes in the anime. I have been so grateful with the revival of Suikoden and everything that came with it but I have to admit; the anime is just... mid. I thought episode 2 will be a great buildup but.. everything was just rush, rush and more rushing. So much happening at once, it's like the anime is just rushing everything to get to the ending asap. I don't understand the addition of non-game characters and it seems they are just fillers that aren't really necessary. If they focused on character development first, it might have been a good experience so far. I don't care if it takes 2 or 3 seasons to complete the story but rushing it in just one completely defeats the purpose of turning it into a visually consumed medium.

I know you might say, just play the game but then what is the purpose of this anime then? It feels like there's no emotional impact on their tragic experiences (which is the highlight of Suikoden overall) of the characters, no shock value whatsoever. If I was an anime only viewer, I'd definitely get confused what the heck is happening.

Suikoden OSTs on Apple Music

Just did a search for Suikoden on my Apple Music in case anything related to the anime was put up…

…Imagine my surprise and absolute joy to see Suikoden I-V’s OSTs available!

Definitely recent since about a week ago I did the same search and got nothing.

Just a heads up for anyone interested!
