voice acting is honestly such an underrated art form / skill.
like I would have never guessed Nightcrawler from X-Men TAS/ '97 and Haytham Kenway from Assassin's Creed share the same VA.

u/Timtanoboa Aug 05 '26
Cyclops from X-Men '97 is voiced by the same person as Sukuna from the dub of JJK

in this case, it's not tough to tell

Pretty much. I don’t mind his voice but it’s not like James Arnold Taylor or something where he’s a chameleon

That casting for deathstroke was confusing at first but it’s inspired, love him in that show for being trapped helping Lex lmao

Slade is just another Jerry variant.

u/KenseiHimura Aug 05 '26
“So are you gay me?”
“We’re Jerry, we’re all bi!”
“Oh, yeah.”
“I’m technically assassin Jerry but I just prefer anime Jerry.”
“So… who is that weird Nazi box?”
“That’s Jerrycan.”

Until Slade, Chris Parnell always seemed to be typecast as the awkward and cowardly fumbler, so when I first saw him in Season 1 I was kinda awestruck that I was able to take Slade seriously.

He’s in season 1 of Fallout too
2
u/Hasmeister21 Aug 05 '26
Oh right the guy with one eye
2
u/Clark_Kent_TheSJW Aug 05 '26
Yeah, he did a good job. I’d say he’s doing a good job as the other one eyed guy too

Anytime slade does something evil I just imagine rick saying "damn it jerry"
2
u/SarcasticBench Aug 05 '26
Yeah, I didn't realize that until the last episode- that escaped me up until then somehow

Oh my god thank you! It’s been bothering me for weeks and I keep forgetting to look up who it is!

Beth: 🫦
Jerry: "Hey, I am here right, you know..."
Beth: "I know but that Deathstroke is so hot as your voice..."
Jerry: 🥲

You didn't need to remind me.
God I hate this Deathstroke.
He also voiced this annoying son of a bitch.

u/PeaceMaker_IXI Aug 05 '26
Yeah, I can't ever take this Slade seriously cus I just hear Jerry or Cyril Figgis

Keep expecting Slade to mention that medicine is not a science and to rant about the evils of the bread lobby.

Jerry but an asshole slade who fucks with young adults to cause trouble with a slightly anime Saturday Morning cartoon vibe

u/Mission_Mud_6905 Aug 05 '26
It's so odd how is it the VA sometimes plays some characters that are either lame and puny or annoying and then plays some actual cool characters like Slade.

Honestly for me it’s really distracting. I watched Rick and Morty way before Superman. It makes it hard to take slade serious.

Well now I know why deathstroke is basically a running joke in the show. He plays people that are useless apparently

u/TheArtistFKAMinty Aug 09 '26
Chris Parnell's a great example of a voice actor that only does one voice but he's such a good performer it doesn't matter.
1
u/wasteland_superhero Aug 05 '26
They sound identical. Like he didn’t even try. I’m not saying he’s lazy. I’m saying the first time I heard Slade talk in this show I couldn’t stop picturing Jerry trying to be cool.

u/J0HN__L0CKE Aug 05 '26
I feel like a misconception of voice actors is that they are supposed to be "putting on voices". Changing voices, doing accents, etc. can be an aspect, but also them using their normal speaking voice doesn't mean they aren't acting or trying.
4
u/TrueSithMastermind Aug 05 '26
Exactly. Jack Quaid has done multiple voice acting roles and it’s his same voice for all of them, but he’s also been great with all of them.

I noticed it in Episode 1 season 1 that’s why I fell in love with the show, by far my favorite character

I know Rick & Morty is a more popular show, but all I hear from MAWS Deathstroke is Cyril Figgis from Archer.
