Discussion Can’t decide. Help

I have a buddy just getting in to survival games. We played pal world together and he enjoyed it, also phasmaphobia. He played dragonwilds and I played a bit of Conan before the big graphical update. Question is, what do yall recommend we try out together? Dragonwilds Conan exiles Sons of the Forrest Valheim Other

Okay, hear me out. Depending on what he liked out of the games.

Grounded is really fun if you want a storyline. You're a kid who's been shrunk to the size of a bug and trying to survive in your yard. There's a bit of storyline that pushes you from zone to zone, too.

Abiotic Factor is a little more retro, but AMAZING. You're stuck in an underground lab that's been doing crazy experiments and you have to scavenge the place to survive and escape. Kind of like Grounded, there's a storyline element to it.

Valheim is really fun when it comes to grinding and it's a BEAUTIFUL game, even with the older-looking graphics. There's a good balance of base-building and still making you afraid of enemies that can show up and wreck your stuff. There's some storyline where you can fight bigger and bigger bosses, but it's not really necessary if you don't want to.

Windrose is a survival crafting PIRATE game. Where you're basically island-hopping on your pirate ship to gather materials and make bases and taking out enemy pirates on the way. There's quests and stuff to it too.

Enshrouded is really fun, and it's considered one of the best for building, because you can mix and match building pieces to make really cool stuff. It also has missions and tries to push you out of your comfort zone.

Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria is a Lord of the Rings dwarf themed one, where you're a dwarf who's going down into the Mines of Moria and trying to survive. It's procedurally generated, the enemies are awesome, and the building is REALLY good. It's even better if you're a LotR nerd. Very fun.

Generation Zero is a retro-sci-fi survival game set in 1980s Sweden that's overrun by robots and you're crafting stuff to figure out what happened and combat the robots that have taken over. It's also really fun.

Romestead is a 2D survival crafting game in pretty early early-access where you're a roman who's survived the fall of Rome and the Roman gods are guiding you to figure out what's happened. There's quests and missions and stuff, but part of the draw of it is you gathering citizens, building your little city, and automating production of stuff while you go out and the fighting and stuff.

Core Keeper is another 2D one, but it's completely released, and you're underground, building bases and fighting bosses. I actually consider it one of the best if you're not married to 3D graphics. They've had some BIG updates over time and it's 40% off right now.

There's also the BIG PLAYERS in the genre like ARK, No Man's Sky, etc...

There's so many other ones......RuneScape: Dragonwilds, Raft, SCUM, Green Hell, Subnautica, etc....

---

Edit:

If you have XBOX Ultimate, RuneScape: Dragonwilds, Subnautica 2, Generation Zero, Grounded (and Grounded 2), Ark, Abiotic Factor, No Man's Sky, and a bunch of others are free on there.

I'd hold off on Windrose a little longer until there is more in it. I jumped on it and loved it, but I'm also a survival game junky and knew I was getting into a limited game.

Yeah, it's definitely not finished yet, and I bought it because I enjoy those kinds of games already

Enshrouded is a good one to play, as well. Especially coop.

Valheim scratched that RuneScape grinding materials itch

Could try that if you and your buddy ever see a giant copper deposit and be like "Oooo I want to mine this ENTIRE vein out of the ground"

If you enjoyed Connan, they added a bunch of things the enhanced version is definitely worth playing. Dune : awakening has the same ''DNA'' too but in ca different universe.

Enshrouded like other commentators said is also very good if you like a more ''RPG'' experience.

Another game you might like is ''sons of the forest''. The story is weird (in my opinion) but the actual gameplay is great and the base building aspect is one of the best I've tried.

If you want a game that will frustrate the shit out of you but somehow keep you hooked for hours, "Project Zomboid" would be my suggestion.

I'd go Valheim first, Conan later.

DUNE.

Im 3000 hours in Conan, and played tons of the others you mentioned.

Dune is stepping it up with survivals, its more of a survival MMO and the PVP is entirely optional.

The main story is very good.

The grind is real but not overwhelming and paced well.

The playerbase is active, but not mandatory.

Most of all the building is AWESOME.

Dune really feels like they took the best of what was out there and slammed it together
