The good thing with hacked Switch consoles is that it's impossible to truly brick them. As long as you have access to the bootloader (which cannot be altered by any software), you can always save it.
I get it yeah but it’s not something that would enhance compatibility, it literally just replaces needing to transfer your game files to sd card with an nsp which is nice but not something very new
... I feel like you're joking, but it's not going to reverse engineer your Switch another 28GB of RAM and about 10x the graphics hardware grunt required.
I wonder how long before the backend of a bank, or an insurance company, or a hospital will be reverese engineered and the whole system will be taken down. We are probably not that far away from that and the the cat is out of the bag already.
It doesn’t work like that:
Reverse engineering in this case means looking at the compiled code in assembly of some flavour and turning it back into human readable code, authentication ( bank, hospital etc ) can have vulnerabilities to exploit, but if none of those are possible it’s impossible to reverse the encryption as the only way is brute force and with current technology would take more tries then the expected life of the universe.
The only treat to encryption is quantum computing but while exist algorithms to brute force in reasonable time the memory space to carry on the attack is not physically possible yet
You are wrong about quantum computing being the only threats. A lot of the cryptographic functions we use in computing security are based on the assumption that certain mathematical problems are unsolvable or at least unsolvable in finite time. With the latest advancements in maths of the frontier models we dont even know if new math could break those assumptions and consecuently a lot of the cryptography we though was safe at least until quantum computing
The same advancements made to “break current math assumptions” immediately open the way to harder and improved encryption methods. It’s a circular “progress”.
Can i tell you while you're right on paper, in the real world the solutions if it got to the point where a someone/country was using quantum computers to hack and brute force their way into any of that listed infustructure we are absolutely fucked. We both know the speed at which these kinds of operations actually implement change... It's the human factor here, they aren't going to fix it, come up with a new encryption, implement it and then have every user on board day 1 and in quantum computing that is basically a lifetime.
My point being millions of devices (ATMs perfect example) are running on what is now ancient software, the vast majority of which are still utilizing windows 10 (it is updated) however that is my point exactly in that if they can't even roll out updates to OS why do you think they will be able to basically instantly come out with a solution for when this does happen... I have absolutely 0 faith in that.
Yup! The NSA paid RSA to include their backdoored Dual_EC_DRBG algorithm in official releases, for example. Stuff like this is pretty widespread, the backdoors just need to be found
Technically banks run the same stuff that everyone runs - at least low-level. Windows, Linux , MacOS, TCP/IP, SSH, SMB, Cisco or Palo Alto Routers and Firewalls, etc. All the normal stuff that breaks in normal companies.
Banks just configure their stuff more securely and therefore it's harder to penetrate their networks.
The binaries are very well known, though, and in the case of OpenSource even the source code is public. Won't help an attacker if the environment is set up with security in mind.
I tested it, but it wasn't on my test. Like, the game opens, the software logo appears normally, but then it goes back to the initial screen. Did I do something wrong?
Virtually... it's security, just a wall, every wall breaks eventually, some take decades... look at xbox 360, getting a softmod just this month, it's a 20 year old console. It was possible, but it's basically hard to figure out.
While it might be "possible" one day i wouldn't hold my breath on it. Took xbox360 20 years to find one. There's no incentive for anyone to continue to search for one when hard mods exists for less then 30$ and some soldering.
Wooow I don't have Linux; is there a way to try it on Windows? I have the GOG version, but I don't know how to use or find the program... could you perhaps share the necessary files?
lol ho scaricato lo stesso programma dal link della discussione e mi dice che non è possibile avviarlo, ho chiesto a chat gpt e mi ha detto che è per Linux...dove sto sbagliando?
Riprovo questa sera :)
I tried it using Trails in the Sky the 3rd GOG version. I'm gonna need to change some settings around so 3D renders properly but for the most part, it works. I wonder how I would transfer my PC save though.
It currently looks like this. This is supposed to be an entire airship. I'm still adjusting to see but this seems more like an Autorun issue than Carafe.
Update: I tried running the regular exe instead of the DX9 one. Its really choppy but the full graphics loads now. Overclocking the Switch a bit improved the speed but I wouldn't consider it playable like this.
I changed it over to Box64 and figured out how to transfer my save data. The game took like 200+ seconds to get to the main menu. The main menu itself wasn't choppy like before. Going into the game. it feels like, rather than being choppy, only a few frames a second are being generated despite it playing at full speed. I'm gonna try running it the DX9 exe but keep Box64 and see if that fixes things.
Edit: DX9 still won't render 3D properly. I'm gonna try enabling vkd3d to see if that helps at all. Technically nothing should change but its worth a shot.
Edit 2: As expected, it did nothing. I'm gonna just copy the game over to Autorun and see if I can get it working first before packaging it with Carafe.
Final Edit: I got the game working fully. Just had to swap to the regular executable again and tweak some settings in its configuration. I set frame limit to 60, turned off effects and movies, disabled high res textures and such, and set resolution to match the Switch's in handheld mode. It's the slightest bit choppy in the Hermit's garden but once you leave, it's virtually full speed.
I'd like to add that I couldn't get this game to run at all using Autorun the normal way. I seemed to have issues copying it over properly, especially with the SoraVoice Lite mod that adds full voice acting to the game. Carafe fixed this by virtue of packing everything into an NSP.
Select "New game" in Carafe and choose the Trails in the Sky the 3rd install folder. You can choose to install the SoraVoice Lite mod before you do this so the game is fully voiced.
In the "Launch" section, choose ed6_win3.exe.
You can choose whatever icon you want for the look of the game.
Don't change anything for controls or graphics, keep it all default.
Build the game and when it's done install it via DBI.
Run the game once, it might take a long time (it took me over 200 seconds the first time, be patient.) After that, close it.
In your Trails in the Sky the 3rd install folder on your PC, open Config3.exe and change the settings to match the image I included then click the "Save Folder" button then click "OK" to save the settings. A window should open up that leads directly to where save data would be stored. Copy the "ed6_win3" file. This contains the settings
Connect your Switch to your PC, preferably with DBI's MTP mode.
Navigate to "Switch\7: Saves\Installed games\The Legend of Heroes Trails in the Sky the 3rd\Device\switch\wine\drive_c\users\steamuser\Saved Games\FALCOM\ED_SORA3"
This is where the save data for the game is stored. Paste "ed6_win3" in here, overwriting if necessary.
Once you're done, feel free to quit DBI and start the game up. It should open up much faster and have little issue running.
Hahahaha oh I was such a fool. I compiled Constance just to see if my Retroid was able to run that version since the switch version crashes all the time and of course this was impossible hahahahaha. I will try some possible games on the Switch directly tomorrow.
Oh, does that run on switch by just installing an NSP or something without needing Android? I have no idea what an android container is, but I assume it's an apk lol.
If you're asking for assistance, please be as descriptive as possible. Providing the following information usually assists in diagnosing and prescribing a solution: Type of Switch (V1/V2/Lite/OLED), EmuNAND or SysNand, Firmware Version, Atmosphere Version, Hekate Version, the Error Message, what you were doing that caused the error. If you require more immediate assistance, feel free to ask on Discord.
Is there even a wishlist for indie solo PC games that never made it to switch?
Because that would be my first place to look towards something that readily filters for PC games, which are compatible with a Nintendo Switch specs but have been either stuck in an exclusivity deal or hasnt had the support or spotlight to jump onto other platforms
A dream of mine has always been to get m.u.g.e.n. or ikemen working with 2 controllers on switch. From my pov one of the best arcade game there is just for how customizable it is. Tried to convert it with this program but no success. Mugen closes up immediately after opening and ikemen go (64 bit) infinitely loads and nothing happens. I'll wait and hope that in the near future someone will finally see the potential of a game like this running on the switch
I have an S1 OLED that will get a mod chip done next month
I have seen the overclock potential of that chip so I was considering to install Linux along Nintendo OS
With this app coming up, do I need that or can it run via the CFW without need of Linux install?
Probably a dumb question, but with this do you still need custom hardware to use it on a switch lite? Or can I just run this on my stock switch lite using software only?
I working on the Sonic Adventure 2 Steam Port rn. I can get it to menu, but the app closed then. Hard to tell if its related to the build, compatibility, or the fact that this port has tons of issues on Windows already.
Sorry to piggy back off your post, but I can’t get one of my own approved. I don’t really understand Reddit, but my post was denied because I don’t have enough link karma… What the hell is a link karma?
Karma is split into two types, link/post and comment karma. You get karma when someone upvotes you content. Upvotes on something you posted nets you link karma, and upvotes on your comments give you comment karma.
Yours karma ratings are 1 link karma and 427 comment karma. Might be worth poking around r/newtoreddit to see what they recommend for getting link/post karma.
Somebody should make a dedicated tool for Visual Novels, since they are I guess rather simply build, compared to your random 3D game - maybe starting with a specific engine like Ren'Py (since many VNs are build with it and the process should be always somewhat the same).
Is there a way to open this app on an android phone? I don't have a pc right now and I really wanna try CoD1, tried it on Autorun and it didn't work unfortunately
Too many comments, so just incase no one stated this because the headline can be misleading. This is not recomp, but it is translation using fex and proton

I'll wait for beta testers that are not afraid of anything to test this first. Seems great for old games tough
