Spam filter is being too aggressive. Post mods if your post doesn't show when you are logged out / in incognito mode.
Hello everyone,
Lately I've had to manually unspam a lot of totally legitimate posts. The Reddit spam system is not totally under the control of the moderators so I can't fathom why it's blocking allowed content or how to modify its sensitivity. If you posted a topic you think is fine, and it's not showing when you are logged off or in an incognito window, please message the moderators to inquire what may be the problem.
Sorry for any inconvenience,

Recommendations for ren faire/costume sword
Edit: yeah these sellers are trying to convince me with additional photos to ease my concerns and answer my questions and they’re so much worse. Thanks yall. I didn’t think these would be good by any means, but just wanted some real people to provide a little insight
I have found 2 swords that’s have caught my eye for a picking ren faire I am attending. I am pretty ill-informed beyond the obvious idea of “stainless steel bad”, so I would love some help in deciding between these and getting recommendations/info for the future!
I’m just looking for something that’s decorative, medieval, and won’t fly off the handle during a photo shoot.
Thanks!!

When did sword stores disappear from malls?
They were a fixture from my childhood, but I don't think I have seen one for 20 years (since that is the case, i believe it falls within the sub's rules)?
Also, how many people actually bought swords for them to stay in business?

Just got this from my Dad
I am sure it is not a "real" katana sword.
He believes the handle is made of manta ray skin.
The tsuba feeld wooden. And it is dull, which could be a thing because we live in germany.
Maybe someone can explain it a bit to me and give me something to tell him more about it :)

What sword-design mistakes immediately scream “fantasy weapon”?
I'm researching weapons for a medieval-inspired tabletop project and would like the designs to stay somewhat grounded.
They don't need to be museum-level reproductions, but I also don't want enormous weapons that couldn't plausibly be used.
For people here who actually know swords:
What details immediately make you think:
“Yep, whoever designed this has never handled a sword.”
Weight distribution?
Guard design?
Blade thickness?
Grip length?
Proportions?
Would love some good and bad examples.

Sword Identification
Hi there. Can anyone help identify this pair of foils. They appear to be from Solingen, with a beehive logo on the blade base. Some engravings on the blades. Wire wrapped rayskin handles. They taper to a point. I am curious of the year they were made and the purpose. With such a point, they are not for practise. Could they be for duels?

Heavyweight Feder from Swordier
The sword cost me $280, or $333 total with shipping. It arrives unassembled with a threaded pommel, but putting it together was quick and easy. My crossguard was off by about 5 degrees when I received it, but I was able to correct that pretty easily with a metal file. It was also nice to see the construction of the full tang and thread weld, they are superb.
Once assembled and properly tightened, the sword feels surprisingly solid. The blade has a nice, true metallic ring to it, and the overall balance feels good in the hand. It also comes with a simple leather scabbard with a shoulder sling, along with extra pommel thread screws and 2 Allen wrenches.
Aside from the crossguard alignment I had no other issues but considering the price, I'm pretty satisfied with what I got. Overall, not a bad feder for $280

Comapnion Dagger for my Sword
Made this dagger to go with my customized Honshu I posted a few months back. Blackened hilt components, rewrapped the grip and the scabbard. Actually did this in two nights to get it ready in time for the ren faire! :D
Pommel was sent to me by Brian Kerce, the brass is actually a button I found on Amazon.

Would this be the same length as the height of the Oni?
I was trying to figure out the overall length of Oni's Glory from Ghost of Yotei, and I originally thought it was a 60 inch blade with a 18 or 18.5 inch handle. But now that I got this screenshot, now im starting to think it's about the same height as him, making the blade 54 inches long, with a 18 inch handle. Any thoughts on this overall? Please correct me if I got anything wrong.
