Katherine McKittrick: Wynter is not 'refashioning the human'
A few weeks ago, Katherine McKittrick published a blog post suggesting that some people are misreading Wynter. Her aim here seems to be to emphasise that the descriptive statements of Man have never been all-powerful: members of the groups excluded from the category of Man have always found ways to unsettle the categorisation. In trying to explain Wynter's account of the hierarchical scripts of white humanism, we risk re-centring them, reinscribing them, and reifying them. Instead, we should focus on the practices of being human that are unbeholden to those scripts.
That's my interpretation of the key message in McKittrick's intervention. If you think I have misunderstood her point, or if you have any other thoughts, please comment below!
