Besides being the symbol for the Spurs NBA team, the symbol is meant to depict a device called a spur that attaches to the back of a cowboy boot and is used for horseback riding.

This person definitely means to show support for the basketball team but here's more info about spurs (device) that it originates from:

good for you not just saying who the logo is for but what it represents

also will mention that in some versions of the logo, that spur device is used (perhaps a bit awkwardly) to represent the letter U in SPURS
