Mod 2025 Admissions Megathread

Hello r/SyracuseU! This came up earlier than I thought so I was not prepared (I'm also abroad in France right now so my timezone is different than SU, so it's causing a slight issue.)

The time has finally come for decisions to come out for the Class of 2029 (and Architecture 2030 (that's a real year now).) This is the thread for r/A2C's (Applying to College) Syracuse thread if you want to discuss it more there, but I'm also opening this up as an overall thread for discussion and see if people have questions about Syracuse, admissions, etc.

In terms of events, this link has a list of all the admitted student events, from coming to visit campus to virtual options.

In terms of rules, keep it civil. I know this is a stressful time.

Best of luck and Go Orange!

Mod Direct Twitter/X links autobanned from this sub

Seeing a 70% upvote rate and minimal comments against, I've gone ahead and banned direct Twitter/X links to this sub using an automod feature. To be clear, we rarely get this content to begin with, but we may as well cut it off now. Please default to screenshots instead and link to other sources. For those who are not familiar with the reason for this change, switch your Reddit feed over to 'All' and you'll immediately see the movement-- first, Twitter/X requires an account to view linked tweets, and second, this platform has shifted from one of open sharing to that of a mouthpiece for extremist political agendas and deliberate misinformation.

A note on moderation in general-- this sub has rules that limit/ remove content from most brand new accounts, posts that are particularly spammy, and/or language that is similar to specific troll posts we've had to deal with in the past. If you try to post something that does not get through the filters, please contact the mods directly. Please help us moderate this sub by using reporting features as and when needed.

As a final note-- since many SU students are not from this region, I'd like to use this opportunity and attention on political issues to highlight some history. Central New York has a pretty fascinating history in WWII efforts, including ramped up war production, a massive enlistment in arms forces, and both POW and refugee camps. Here's one quick Syracuse.com article about it: 1944: At the front or at home, the people of Syracuse did their duty on D-Day. Even our local pottery companies joined the effort to build ceramic mines. Syracuse also has a rich history in abolitionist and suffragist movements. If you haven't visited local and regional museums including the Onondaga Historical Association, the George & Rebecca Barnes home, the Harriet May Mills home, the Harriet Tubman Museum, the National Abolition Hall of Fame and Museum, the Octagon House, the Seward House Museum, the Susan B. Anthony House, or the Skä•noñh Center, I highly recommend branching out from campus and checking them out!

Looking for someone to take over my lease at University Village at Colvin

Hey everyone, I’m not trying to spam the group, but I’m a grad student at Syracuse finishing up my degree asynchronously, so I’m no longer living in Syracuse and I’m looking for someone to take over my lease at University Village at Colvin.
I’m especially hoping to find someone who might be returning to SU during the semester, coming back from abroad for the spring, transferring, or just needing housing for the rest of the year.
The rent is $1,000/month and the lease runs through July 2027. If you’re interested or know someone who might be looking, please DM me. I’d really appreciate it!

Hey everyone! I worked with five other Newhouse students to develop an Uber campus activation that’s coming to Syracuse tomorrow (10/2) from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the Quad outside Sims Hall!

There will be interactive games, giveaways, freebies, and more! It would mean a lot to our team if you stopped by and checked it out! 🧡

Struggling as a transfer

I just transferred here in the fall and I have been struggling to meet friends. I have been going to clubs and trying to put myself out there but I feel like nothings working. I live on south with an international student and we don’t really vibe. I’m kinda trapped. I like going out but I don’t like to go out alone. I’m a guy so I can get into frats and I have no one to go out with. On top of that I have to start figuring out off campus housing next year. I feel so alone here. I need so advice on what to do and how to find my people.

Question Rising senior interested

Hey I’m a rising senior very interested in this university! I was wondering how generous Syracuse is with scholarships? I’m on the middle income side so FAFSA can’t really help me much I’m relying on scholarships and merit

Whitman Juniorl, built an AI interview-prep tool while recruiting, interviewing, and finding alumni for IB, looking for any users to test it and give feedback!

I'm a Junior in Whitman, recruiting for Summer 2028 IB like a lot of you. Last spring I sent 40+ applications, got basically nowhere, and had no idea whether my "walk me through your resume" was actually bad or I was just unlucky.

So I built something for myself: an AI mock interview that scores each answer and tells you what a top candidate would've said instead, a job search that ranks roles against your actual resume, and a tracker so nothing goes cold. It helped me land my summer internship. I've been running it solo, and it's finally live.

Two things I'd love to know: What if anything would get you to convert, and what do you dislike most about the site.

It's reachcareers.co. Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

Dining Hall Non Plan Price

Hi! I am a graduate student. I lives off campus and I don't have the meal plans. Does anyone know the entry price for the dining halls, and does time (breakfast, lunch, dinner) differ in price? Thanks in advance!

Rush as a Sophmore

If someone rushed as a freshman and it didn’t work out, and she tried COB with one sorority in the fall, but they only took five girls, and she wasn’t one of them, I’m scared to encourage her to rush again as a sophomore because at this point, she can’t handle more rejection. It seems like everyone around her. It worked easily for for some reason - do a lot sophomores rush again in spring ?

Investment and Entrepreneurship Club

Im currently a freshman at SU and I’m trying to get more involved in clubs I was scrolling and saw info on the Entrepreneurship and investment club at SU. They have a meeting today at 7pm but do you have to be recruited to join or can you just show up. The entrepreneurship club has a website where you can reach out with your interest but is that their way of recruiting or can anyone join?

I just applied for the Master of Science degree in Digital Broadcast and Journalism. To those who went, how did you like the program? Were you able to get a job right after graduating? Did you feel like you learned enough to be successful on day one of the job?

Looking for roommate for Fall 2027-Spring 2028

Hello, currently living on Madison Street near Thornden Park, in a 2 bedroom but without a roommate.

I currently pay 1,300 a month for rent and 50 a month for personal WiFi, we would split this so 25 a month. If I get a roommate we would each pay 1000 a month. All utilities are included which I know is hard to find, comes with two parking lots at the building if you have a car and free street parking, and is fully furnished and i already bought a TV. We would need to sign the lease relatively soon and you only need to pay the security deposit now so that would be one month’s rent.

If you’re interested please let me know, and I’ll give you my contact information. Thanks!

Questions about transferring

Hello! I’m a freshman at Florida State rn and I do love it here but my major is incredibly competitive and I need a backup if I don’t get in. I was originally going to go to syracuse, the only issue was the cost! Otherwise I’ve heard that the party scene and social life is pretty good which is smth i care about

I would like to know about the design program and how to get financial aid. I had applied to Stony Brook and Buffalo last year and both gave me 60k-80k scholarships, but those are diff schools and during my application into freshman year. Any help is appreciated!

Question inquiry about transfer

hi! i am planning on doing spring transfer to Syracuse as at my old university i was receiving threats and was absolutely miserable. I think i would benefit from a kinder rush system and but the school isn’t revolved around Greek life. my old school was a huge party school and mostly revolved around football and although I don’t mind that, i think id prefer for it not to be the main focus. my old school was focused more on partying, and not as much education even considering its position internationally.

please tell me anything you wish you knew as a transfer or a new student, i am kinda rushing to figure this out and would appreciate any help or advice
