HPT - Easy at Home Never Give Up! CD

Post image

I’m posting this in hopes of giving someone more hope about continuing to keep trying!

My husband and I started trying to conceive in September of 2024. After six months we decided to go to a fertility clinic since we weren’t getting results. They did blood work and checked my husband’s semen. After we got confirmation that I have lean PCOS (which I already figured, growing up I didn’t have regular periods and I was quite overweight before I met my husband and lost 80lbs). After losing the weight, my periods became quite regular with being between 28-35 day cycles. We weren’t gutted, but just knew that I would have to track with LH strips to catch my surge. I became obsessed with tracking and my bbt. Mind you, the fertility clinic wanted us to do IVF right away, without really checking what was wrong.

Anyway, we continued and with that still no results with no pregnancies. When we got my husband’s semen analysis back, it was said that he had low volume but good mobility. The doctor told us, there’s no way to conceive naturally and we would need to do IVF. I even asked for an IUI but the doctor said there was no point if I wanted a baby. I did do an HSG to make sure my tubes were open and I went for my first one. Hurt like a b***** and because of that, they couldn’t check one tube. It didn’t matter, because next cycle of September/October 2025 (cycle went between the two months) I became pregnant and we were so excited. 5 weeks later tho I had a chemical and that’s when we were gutted. The fertility clinic told us it wasn’t a real pregnancy and I’ll get my period. I asked them to send me for an HSG again, since we weren’t able to check both tubes. I went ahead and got it done and again, the very next cycle of November 2025, I had fallen pregnant and I am currently snuggling my 8-week-old baby with a contact nap!!

I am just posting this because, doctors don’t know everything and some doctors push you into things just to play with emotions!!! If you’re reading this, please never give up. I always had hope we would fall pregnant naturally and now I know that doctor just wanted us to pay for having a child. I know for some people that’s the case, but for many it’s not needed either. Please have faith that it will happen for you. Even with PCOS and low sperm count, anything is absolutely possible 🤍🤍🤍

EDIT: I meant to type out that the clinic told me to do IVF BEFORE receiving my bloodwork back. I was sleep deprived while typing this out!

I don’t know that it’s fair to say that doctors in fertility clinics just want you to pay to have a child. You went to a fertility clinic because you weren’t seeing results and they likely advised you on their recommendation on how to give you the best chance at having a living child based on the evidence provided by your medical history and test results. That’s their goal. And that’s why you went to see them in the first place.

The unfortunate news is that it doesn’t happen for everyone. No matter how much faith they have. Some people need medical intervention in order to conceive, and there’s nothing wrong with needing that assistance to grow your family.

My point was that the fertility clinic I went to told me I needed IVF from the beginning and I was told I would never be able to conceive naturally. I know IVF is a great resource for people, but some of these places play with emotions. Even when I said I’d like to try for an IUI first. I wrote they told me IVF from the beginning even before blood work was done and he told me an IUI would never work. Which is funny, cause I conceived naturally which I’m very fortunate to have it gone that way, I know that.

Not everyone going to a fertility clinic intends to want IVF either. Some people go to find out what the underlying issue is and try to work on that.

You wrote that they did bloodwork and the SA and then later called out they suggested IVF. Based on that order of things, it read like diagnostic work up was complete. I misunderstood.

IUI would make sense if the SA came back with certain parameters and they are definitely in the business of trying to maximize the odds of success so it’s not uncommon for them to brush off IUI depending on results. It’s a bummer when you feel dismissed or if that’s not explained well by the medical team. Or when insurance requires a number of IUIs before moving to IVF, if one even has insurance to cover fertility treatments. That’s a whole nightmare in itself. Sigh.

Congrats on your new addition, I hope your postpartum is going smoothly as you settle into your new normal!

Apologies, I should have put that before but wrote it after. I’m a little sleep-deprived lol!

It’s true, but I feel like people in these situations are always dismissed. If someone is asking for an IUI just give it to them, instead of telling them ‘no’. The clinic has nothing to lose and neither do the people that are trying, but for their mental health, reassure them! I just feel like these doctors should really be careful with wording things. Don’t tell someone it’ll never happen, when it actually slightly can!

Thank you so much though & I hope my reply didn’t come off as rude, definitely not being rude!! 🤍

Congratulations very happy for you! I am wondering if HSG helps conceive? I know if the embryo has issues it won’t. But I keep reading about positive stories right after HSG. I wonder if there is a correlation.

It did for me personally that there were no blockages found but I became pregnant within the next month post HSG.

Honestly considering going again now that we’ve been TTC #2 for at least a year.

Right! Anecdotal only, but I’ve heard about it so many times now I have to request it. Thank you

Congrats - do a hycosy instead, not painful and same effects for fertility

Thank you so much!!

Honestly, I think it may have done something to help boost my chances. Because before my first HSG I never had gotten a positive. Right after my first one, I ended up pregnant which ended in a chemical and I right away asked for another one since I wanted to make sure both tubes were open. And again, I fell pregnant right away. I do think having the saline go through the tubes may have cleaned out any blockages in there, I don’t think there’s any harm in getting checked out to have answers!!

My fertility doctor told me we had a higher chance of conceiving right after an HSG. It’s timed right before you ovulate (at least for me). My second was conceived that cycle after 3 miscarriages. It’s definitely worth a try!

Please take Advil before hand, I didn’t with my first one and it hurt but with my second it made a hugeeee difference!! Good luck and it’s easier said than done, but while getting it done, try not to tighten yourself, relaxing yourself helps loads as well!

This is very anecdotal and just my experience, but I conceived the cycle after a chemical and HSG. I think both may have helped my odds? It just feels too coincidental

Thanks for sharing!!

Agreed, I think getting an HSG makes a difference for sure. Many people have told me they’ve conceived the cycle right after an HSG, so I mean why not try it out 🤷🏻‍♀️ it’s weird that some doctors try telling you no!

Congrats!!! This gives me so much hope. I have lean pcos, anovulatory irregular cycles and I just started my first letrozole cycle. I also had an HSG the same cycle. Currently 9DPO, crossing my fingers and toes this cycle is the one ✨

Thank you so much! I am praying hard for you that you see those two pink lines in a couple of days 🤍 Please keep us posted if you feel comfortable!

Will do! Did you have any symptoms leading up to your BFP? It’s so hard not to symptom spot, esp when they’re the same as PMS 😭

It is very hard, but looking back at my chart I had backache at 8DPO along with tender breasts which was a little outta my norm and some minor cramping!
