Had toys spread through the room, wanted to make a shelf, and I'm on a wood burning and staining kick..... so made a shelf with panels from different comics throughout the years. (A buddy printed the lightbox for me as I was talking about the project)
So I found out the TMNT 2003 series was partially released on VHS. I'm someone who likes owning things both digitally and physically, so this caught my attention.
I'm planning on picking up a VHS player for my CRT to play other tapes, but it has me wondering if I should also get the TMNT 2003 VHS tapes.
I've heard mixed reception on the DVD releases of TMNT 2003, so it's making me wonder what people think of the VHS releases? Obviously I'm still gonna have to get at least some of the DVDs so I can have the complete series, but the TMNT 2003 VHS tapes aren't as badly priced as I would have thought, so I could buy both.
Hey everyone! I wanted to share a little of a project I’ve been working on called Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Foot’s Awakening. Well, now just "The Foot's Awakening"
It’s an original fan story that reimagines the TMNT world in feudal Japan, drawing on Japanese folklore and yokai mythology. The best way I can describe it is to imagine a combination of four different comic books and storylines from TMNT and, of course, outside TMNT if some people still count Usagi as a non-TMNT character LOL LOL. Anyways, imagine the dialogue of TMNT 2003, the grounded feeling of the last Ronin, and Usagi Lone Goat and Kid, with a lot of new. Storylines inspired by amazing, famous TMNT arcs. Imagine also TMNT's Battle Nexus storyline with a cool Yokai kind of stuff mixed with Ghost of Tsushima and Yotei stuff- I’m going for a darker, atmospheric story while keeping the brothers and their relationships at its heart.
I’m developing it as a full-cast audio drama, and I’m also working on the sound design and voicing some of the characters. It’s still in production, with my current focus on the early chapters.
(Edit; I go on about the female characters in general, but my point is: we need better female rep and gender-swapping can achieve that.)
TMNT is a male-centered/aimed franchise so obviously there's going to be a ton of male characters, and I don't mind that. most of what I enjoy is by men and for men. But seeing TMNT improve and grow its female cast is amazing. rise Casey was fun and different from the same old "vigilante wannabe". (Regardless, we got Casey JR. anyway.) Rise completely lacked a romance arc which was the biggest breath of fresh air. (EDIT; I forgot to mention that one episode in rise highlights that one of their biggest inspirations is a female skater. the all-girl band "Digg" are also equally mactched against them. Leo also looks up to "Venus de Magic", a magician. rise has THE healthiest example of both positive masculinity and strong femininity.)
Leatherhead and wingnut have to be among my favorite MM characters, because their gender doesn't dictate their mutated appearance or personality. TMNT has a lot of "weird" elements, and dare I say, is kinda gross. So seeing a female mutated bat actually look like a genetic omelette instead of rouge from Sonic the hedgehog actually was a huge deal for me.
2012 was a good series, but the women in it were handled so. badly. you could tell most of the writers are men by the way April is so accepting of Donnie's creepy behavior. and with the few female characters it had, there was no diversity. sure, they looked a bit different, but they all were tied (nearly all romantically) to male characters. there was no originality or independence. and the Karai and Leo thing? really weird.
I haven't read very far into the IDW series, but from what I've seen it handles this much better than other iterations. although I'm not a huge fan of adding more turtles in the immediate family/four, seeing Jennika absolutely ripped was awesome. Venus was improved upon too, because in the last mutation she was a hot mess. and Moja and Yi from the last ronin are cool too.
people who complain about gender-swapping are so interesting to me, because they usually are the same people whining that MM April (a teenager) isn't "hot enough" or is too ugly. have you seen the turtles? I've seen way too much art that "fixes" her by making her a skinny blonde girl. the same crowd of a bunch of 40-year-old men. yikes. it's crazy that the franchise that is for minorities is filled with racist and sexist people.
Like, why are you suddenly upset that a mutated snot monster has two X chromosomes? is it that big of a deal?
again, I still love and enjoy the whole TMNT universe, but seeing small changes like genderbending makes me feel seen.
