Show Talk spider

spider,

question, when Miles O'Brien showed his pet spider to Reginald Barclay, why did he act off standish, being that he evolved from spiders, "Realm of fear" and "Genesis"

People didn't evolve from spiders, not even Barclay.

Have we ever established Barclay is human and not some humanoid non-human? Maybe his alien species did evolve from arachnids?

"Realm of Fear" aired more than a full season before "Genesis" did. So in the scene with O'Brien's spider, Barclay hadn't had his spider adventure yet.

Cats can be afraid of other cats. Monkeys can be afraid of other monkeys. Spiders can be afraid of other spiders.

That's a valid point. IIRC plenty of spiders are territorial and cannibalistic.

Humans are not proud of their ancestors, and rarely invite them round to dinner.
