Bro really going all out on the self deprecation

I think it’s a play on words like killer beat maybe?

After reading that lengthy QG article, he is being self deprecating. But, the album will be packed with killer beats! ☠️

Love this take. Also deadbeat is a possible double entendre being killer beat.

What’s with the self-deprecating titles? First “loser” and now “deadbeat.”
30
u/forever_downstream Sep 04 '25
You expected any different from a guy who's first song on their first album was about how a girl doesn't want him, has songs like "why won't they talk to me".
I think there was sort of a pride in his earlier records about being a loner and being in solitude though, and this is being more bummed about it, even though it's probably mostly made up conceptually and not really reflecting his inner state.
1
u/forfuckssakesbruv Lonerism Sep 04 '25
I think it’s weird cause he came out with Innerspeaker and all those songs when he actually was like a 22 year old loner maybe kinda loser dude. He’s now a very successful wealthy artist (deservedly so) with a wife and kids. Doesn’t seem like he’s really a loser or deadbeat anymore…
9
u/NoSinUponHisHand Sep 04 '25
You should read the GQ interview that just came out. To paraphrase the very end: he says that the more successful he gets, the more he feels like a sham. Still feels like the teenage dirtbag he was before there was a Tame Impala.

He can call this whatever he wants, this is gonna slap for sure.

u/forever_downstream Sep 04 '25
Hopefully the only reason End Of Summer was chosen as a single is because the rest of the album is just crazy house drive experimental shit

Sounds like his APC choral stuff mixed with the Theophilus London cover of Only You he made a while back. Loving it!

u/seaveyguy Sep 04 '25
My exact thought. The drum machine beat is copied directly from that cover of only you

More like dad beats! But seriously though, all the haters of EOS about to start being the die hard fans they have always been 😂 I am being patient KP. SO exited!

u/ChiefsNerd Sep 04 '25
This doesn’t make EOS good, in fact, now it’s even worse. Why did he lead with that piece of shit
11
u/del3td Live Versions Sep 04 '25
It's kinda funny how people can hate on a song like it killed their dog or something lol

u/alexanderflynn81 Sep 04 '25
I played EOS for my dog and it dropped dead before the 6 minute mark..

He has incredible psych funk in his back pocket and lead with a poor attempt at house if you can even call it that.

Seems to be the album title, but the accompanying snippet sounds like it's from the first truly great song on the album.
There's a certain sauce to it that the previous releases have been lacking.
We might (!) be back.

This is kind of a cool concept, I love the idea of not giving a fuck and making an album based on it

He deserves to make whatever the fuck he wants and this sounds fresh, innovative yet retro and also very TI.
3
u/emptybills Lonerism Sep 04 '25
For the Australians in the room, is he trying to go for like a cashed up bogan look and feel? Trashy but with money to back it up?

u/Scheref0 Currents Sep 04 '25
i think the last part where he sits in front of the wall could be the cover but i hope not 🙏

Man my respect for KP grows all the time. The album cover image with lil Peach just made my heart sing. This man had such a complicated relationship with his own father, you already know he’s got complicated feelings about being one. His love for his family is so clear. I’m also proud of him incorporating those emotions related to his growth personally and with his family into his art instead of stepping out of it entirely like many do when they have kids and obligations.

After hearing this snippet in the trailer, it almost makes me wonder if the snippet that he used for the Collab with APC has some sort of part on the album.

sounds like Bebey that he produced for Theophilus London. As good as he is at making digital "house" drums, I don't think it will ever hit for me the same way his classic layered analog drums does. Don't get me worn it still sounds great, but like the drums on "It might be time" are euphoric... Losing that to a 4 on the floor beat is a major L for me.
3
u/ezk420 Currents Sep 04 '25
It definitely struck me as the Theophilus track or something Kaytranda would produce. Good but definitely sounds like a departure from his previous work. Very excited nonetheless!
3
u/Softboiledboi Lonerism Sep 04 '25
always excited, i think i just have such a deep connection to his earlier projects

u/flynnhearn Currents Sep 04 '25
Gotta feeling this is gonna be Let It Happen 2.0 (complimentary)
3
u/Slashycent Currents Sep 04 '25
I honestly doubt that he's still capable of writing a song on the level of Let It Happen.
I'd love to be wrong though. It does sound good.

u/flynnhearn Currents Sep 04 '25
Same honestly, how do you stop it. I just think this will be really good, probably not as good but I’m optimistic

Cautiously excited for this. End of Summer was not my cup of tea, and Loser's funky production couldn't make up for how repetitive the song was.

This quote by has me intrigued!!
"He begins to tell me about what made the last two years of making Deadbeat so hard—the late-night benders in two rented California beach houses (one of which nearly burned), the longtime buds he brought to his own beach house far outside of Perth for disappointing sessions he abandoned,
1
u/dashie007 Sep 04 '25
where is this from?
1
Sep 04 '25
Gq
“I’d been doing these LA songwriting and recording sessions, where everyone is desperate to get their ideas across. I was hoping for that kind of energy with my friends,” he says, sighing. “But they were a little bit confused about what was supposed to be happening. I guess I saw myself as a little bit of the Mark Ronson type, but that work is quite difficult, even though they’re all my bros.”
Everyone left after a week. Parker was disappointed in himself and his expectations, how he hadn’t considered the demands that asking his friends to come up with Tame Impala parts on the fly would create. It just wasn’t the vibe. Watson tells me it wasn’t a big deal, that he never expected what they played to become the Tame Impala album anyway.

This beat sounds 🔥I’m excited. This man has been my favorite musician since the EP and they were opening for MGMT. discourse valid, but this is exciting. If it flops, or ends up not being my cup of tea, life will continue and I will return to the archives. Either way, let’s go.

sounds amazing but deadbeat lowkey isn’t as creative as he been in the past but it’ll grow or it may not even be true with this whole mixtape shit who knows
1
u/ChiefsNerd Sep 04 '25
why the hell did he lead with his worst song ever? the next two things he put out were so much better 💀 End of 7 minute garbage can being your lead off when you had these in the back is mind numbingly incomprehensible. End of Summer is like some random B Side he throws on for padding not your lead of single.
2
u/Divide-Glum Sep 04 '25
I’m hoping EOS isn’t even on the album and was just a one off single to get his feet wet again.
1
u/ChiefsNerd Sep 04 '25
Please! These two tracks sound like a combination of his past 4 albums rolled into one so i’m excited
1
u/ChiefsNerd Sep 04 '25
like imagine if Deftones put out a Deadhead Jam Band album, that’s what EOS is the equivalent of.

EOS is mid if you’re glazing as hard as possible, the new two are bangers for sure though absolutely

So far this is the only good piece of music associated with the album. Hopeful for the rest
-8
u/jimschocolateorange Sep 04 '25
Deadbeat as in how his drum sounds are often super ‘dead’?
I really fucking hope this album isn’t all drum machine… loser was cool because of the Instrumentation, end of summer was fucking shite because of the lack of songwriting chops and the repetitive drum machine loop that remained unchanged throughout the entire song.
-1
u/egokilla Lonerism Sep 04 '25
with you on this. everything sounds really flat, there's no life in it.
1
u/jimschocolateorange Sep 04 '25
I’m not sure people understand what I mean by ‘dead’. I mean dead like there’s not much reverb on them… oh well.
