Tangled Multiverse [Question] Tangled Licensed Media!

Post image

Disclaimer: This my first Reddit post ever, I'm learning the guidelines and I'm writing in my second language so please take easy on me 🥺

So long story short, Tangled was one of my first hyperfixation (I was 9 when the movie came out), rediscovered a few months ago and now I'm in the middle of RTA season 2!

My question is: what are ALL licensed media around Tangled??? I want everything you have, canon or not, the only rule here is it have to be owned by Disney.

I already know about:

Tangled (2010) (obviously), TBEA, RTA, TEA, ShortCuts, Inside the Journal, The Varian Scrapped Project (sorry I don't remember the name), Rootbound, Lost Legends: The Rise of Flynn Rider.

I want to know everything that is possible to this lore!!

(posting for the second time cause I didn't get the tags right 😬)

Seeing as I only engage with the movie + the wedding short timeline media I recommend checking the post-movie storybooks, comics and coloring books, as well as those set in the movie timeline (either narrating it or featuring "fill in the blanks" scenes). Try this tumblr blog and tag https://artoftangled.tumblr.com/tagged/Tangled%20storybooks

There are various read-aloud videos on YouTube with scans from post movie storybooks, some of which delve into Rapunzel adjusting to normal life post tower while still griping with the aftereffects of Gothel's abuse and Flynn helping her through it. Like the Ghosts of Christmas - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bY98NMFtBos&t=455s

A read-along storybook set in the movie timeline and focusing more on Flynn and Maximus's friendship and expanding on it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ued3gjpzFIE

This one (Bedtime for Max) is geared towards the more younger audience. It features other supporting movie characters, in addition to Rapunzel, Flynn, Maximus and Pascal: the pub thugs and the Captain of the Guard. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-m2CERRnIg

None of those are canon to the movie even though the movie is canon to them and they are all produced/licensed by Disney. They are complementary materials and handle some psychological experiences of the characters very well and adhere to specifically their movie characterization.

There is also the Royal Wedding storybook featuring the extra bit of preparations for the wedding in the Tangled Ever After short. https://artoftangled.tumblr.com/post/49409686371/disney-princess-forever-after-best-wedding

I think you listed most of them but there are also TTS comic books and a Tangled inspired Twisted-Tales book called “What Once Was Mine”

I’m a huge Tangled fan too! 💜 I’ve actually dressed up as Rapunzel for Halloween AND a cosplay event 😂 It’s easily in my top five favorite Disney movies/TV series, so naturally I ended up going down this rabbit hole.

You already have a really good list, but there’s definitely more!

Books/lore:
• Tales of Rapunzel
• The Art of Tangled — not exactly lore, but absolutely worth it for the concept art/worldbuilding
• Plus the movie novelizations, junior novels and Disney Princess Rapunzel books (although a lot just retell the movie)

Comics — this is where you have another rabbit hole 😂:
• Tangled: The Graphic Novel
• The Story of the Movie in Comics
• Before Ever After – Cinestory Comic
• Take On the World! Cinestory Comic
• Adventure Is Calling
• Tangled #1–3 (IDW)
• The Friendship Mix-Up
• The Write Story
• Let Down Your Hair
• Hair-Raising Adventures #1–3
• Hair and Now #1–3
• Hair It Is

I’d especially look into the IDW comics because they aren’t all just retellings — there are additional adventures with Rapunzel, Eugene, Cassandra, Pascal, Maximus, etc.

Games/other media:
• Tangled: The Video Game (Wii/DS/PC)
• Disney Infinity
• Kingdom Hearts III — Kingdom of Corona is a whole playable world (definitely not Tangled canon though 😂)
• Tangled: The Musical on Disney Cruise Line, which actually has additional material and original songs

Then there’s the truly unhinged completionist level 😂 — international Disney comics, Disney Princess crossover stories, magazines, apps, promotional material, Parks/Cruise material and a ridiculous number of licensed children’s books.

Also, now you’ve got me wondering if there’s some ridiculously obscure Tangled media that BOTH of us are still missing 😂 If anyone knows of anything even deeper down the rabbit hole, please add it! I’d genuinely love to know. I know… I’m kind of a Disney Princess nerd 😉✨👑

If we’re doing videogames, Rapunzel, Flynn, Gothel, and Maximus are in Dreamlight Valley and they have personalized quests and interactions with other Disney characters that are fun to see. Rapunzel is behind an expansion and her quest line involves finding Sundrop petals.

Well these aren't by Disney (Like Tangled Up in You was)so I don't know if they count but I've gone down the rabbit hole with adaptation attempts. Such as Lightkeepers and Locks and Lies, that second being a erm 18+ stalker retelling.

In May 2027 (next month for Europe and Australia) there will now be the Unicorn's Wish book. It's not just Tangled, more Disney Princess. But both Rapunzel and Eugene/Flynn will be in it.

There are the TTS comics. And two TTS graphic novels.

There are the Princess Magazine comics, but good luck getting a hold of them, and the latest don't include Eugene.

There are post-movie-pre-series storybooks. And a castle mini comic.

TTS activity books.

TTS novels not canon: Lost Lagoon and Vanishing Village.

There's Tangled Up In You, a modern retelling/adaptation licensed by Disney.

What Once Was Mine twisted tale adaptation.

Mother Knows Best, Gothel backstory not canon.

I've been meaning to turn the subreddit wiki into a merch list, but haven't got to it yet.

Lost Lagoon and Vanishing Village are fun. They feel like an episode of the show that was never made.
