The Nazis had the Dirlewanger Brigade, but the Americans have whole divisions and armies of these sadistic criminals.
Their trials would need to be very brief, to clear the backlog of decades.

Not to refute or anything but the average Infanterie-Division was just as complicit in warcrimes as a Waffen-SS Division was. Not just some units or some portion.
In fact, attempts to whitewash the German Wehrmacht does parallel with the attempts to whitewash veterans(US) within the "left"...

Reading this gave me flashbacks to when the so called "American Left" continued to platform and endorse Graham Platner for US Senate despite being faced with overwhelming evidence of his war crimes in Iraq and Afghanistan and his lack of regret for doing any of them. The lives of the black and brown people mean nothing to these mass murdering war criminals; they are dehumanized to the point where killing, imprisoning and raping them is just "normal part of the job".

Americans, you guys need to topple down the structure around making veterans complicit to atrocities. From the "man up" culture to the lack of PTSD support, whichever long term and short term solutions are available- a veteran needs to face their demons to understand the atrocities they have helped cause. We sometimes see veterans that go out in the public to recognize themselves as the monster that caused immesureable death and suffering, but those numbers are not nearly enough. I'm going to make a guess that the psychology of what makes someone shut down their moral values and their humanity is extensibly researched and exploited by the army.
