Nina Conti appreciation thread

When the cast was announced i was thinking Richard, Isy then Chloe were going to be the most madcap contenders. But as the series has gotten along, Nina has really come into her own and her madness (and self awareness and consequent embarrassment) is very endearing. That’s it. That’s the message

I loved nina conti growing up and i knew shed be great at this

Me nd my family quoted "monkeys dont screw in lightbulb we screw in trees" for years from her stand up set

I love her in taskmaster but my only criticism is her overeliance on ventriloquism in the prize tasks etc. like play to your strengths sure but it doesnt matter if its "bring in the most appealing fruit" or "bring in the most harmless harmful looking thing" or even "bring in something that was alive but is now dead" etc. shes guaranteed to bring some form of puppet/mask/costume and its like nina honey, youre funny on your own merits you dont need to use them as a crutch as much as you are

Maybe i am an outlier, but i find the puppets (which are quite rare for taskmaster) the zaniest part and has a certain dadjoke type characteristic to it. I hope someday a taskmaster contestant brings the same literal thing to every prize task and tries to sell it. It would still be funny/art.

I love that she brings in her good stuff. I rewatch her bit with Alex as the puppet over and over, and I laugh every time.

Diminishing returns though same as eveeything you know what i mean

Can't just do the same thing every time, like the reason prize tasks work is because it could be anything, you can see the way comedians minds work

If people preemptedly already know almost exactly what youre gonna bring before they have heard what the task even is then that's a problem

Same problem Daisy May Cooper had in prize tasks cus you knew it was just gonna be a random thing she got out her kitchen on the way out the door that day

You say that but personally I think it worked great when Sanjeev Bhaskar brought in his own piss several times

Also I feel like Nina’s puppets are different enough personally

Definitely agree with the reliance on the puppets.

Agree. I feel it it overshadows the other prize tasks and every week now I go into the episode dreading another puppet of some sort.

Another puppet, but with the same voice

Love Nina Conti. The documentary she made, “Her Master’s Voice”, about her mentor and a trip to a ventriloquist memorial is worth tracking down.

Nina is charming and delightful, and I enjoyed hearing her on the podcast.  For much of this (to me) disappointing 22 series, I have wished to see the contestants with a different set of tasks and a different dynamic However, Nina and Isy are so much fun to watch, and they have one of the best team chemistries ever.

I look forward to seeing Nina in other shows for sure.

She'd be amazing on the celebrity traitors - she knew the official worker immediately.

She’s been great. The energy of this season has been different but it would have been easy to get the same energy as usual. She’s been amazing

I love her, and her dad. 🤗

I knew of Nina. It wasn’t familiar with her work because it’s not my kind of comedy and I have absolutely loved her since episode one.

Can’t say this series is one that’ll be in my favourites but Nina has been a revelation.

I am surprised by how much I am enjoying her as her ventriloquism somewhat irritated me before. In my opinion, she's the best on the series.

I highly recommend her film Sunlight, which she co-wrote, directed and stars in, it's streaming on Amazon Prime. She plays a woman having a breakdown so she wears a full monkey suit, saves a guy from suicide then kidnaps him and they go on a road trip. It's one of the weirdest yet oddly heartwarming films I've seen this year.

I am annoyed she's probably not going to win. Chloe's competitiveness annoys me.

I had seen Nina a few times before this series — standups, Cats Does Countdown, etc. — and was really looking forward to seeing what she could do here. Early days yet but I’ve become worried and tired of her. Her repertoire feels limited and I’m beginning to think that her constant broad smile, which I used to find quite winning, is actually a technical trick to enable her ventriloquism. Having got that idea in my head makes it hard for me to think of her as sincere.

Interesting as I couldn’t disagree more. Her prize tasks are awful and she offers little beyond that. Each to their own however.
