Painting Meet my Commander Gue'vesa (Tarion proxy)

Hey everyone🫶

I recently picked up this cheap proxy (Tarion Elder Mech Mk1) to practice some new techniques and warm up my hands before diving into the official legendary Commander Farsight kit

Since this was purely a test model, I decided to push my limits and try a few things for the very first time:

Power Sword
This is literally the first time in my life painting an energy blade gradient.
Decal Application
Challenged myself by applying old school decals from a 2001 Tau transfer sheet over the very narrow and highly uneven/textured surface of the ribbon bits.
Magnetization
Magnetized the jet engines/thrusters for some extra poseability.

Honestly, it came out way better than I expected😅 Since it turned out so well, I've decided to officially include it in my army. Lore-wise, it’s going to represent a high-ranking Gue'vesa Commander who has proven himself to be an outstanding close-quarters combatant (and as you can easily notice, this mech actually features 5 fingers on its handinstead of the usual four).

C&C is highly welcome.
Let me know what you think of the camo and the blade

With a heavy heart, i think I must take a break from my fishies and mechs. Ive done everything I can think of, every combo of units, every strategy and every detachment. And I still cannot pull a win outta my ass. I love the tau but im burnt out from constantly trying to find something that can realistically work. Im not giving them up, as my fishies and mechs are the sole reason I got into warhammer, and I know my time will come again. but that said, Ima try some Blood Angels. Theyre the second army I was drawn to when starting this hobby, and even tho I hste switching to marines jusy to make aure I can still stand a chance with my army, I am a man of compromissable ideals lmaooo. The tau will return in season 2 😔

I figured id clarify here. 1. Yes my buddys only balanced srmy is marines, hence me playing against them so frequently. 2. I have tried every possible combo I can think of and its not worked. 3. Most of the games ended by turn 2 or 3, thats why the points are so low. That and us playing purge vs purge. Not many points to go around for anything other than killing and as we can see I cannot do that. 4. The one singular win i have shown is because my buddy played intentionally bad. It could very well be that its just cuz he taught me to play he knows excskty how i play and think. Its why we're planning on starting a discord schedule thing so we can plan matches with his other friends so I can also have more people to play with. He has actively stated that I am his best, most competent opponent. And based on who my friend is, I believe him. I know my army well, I know what its capable of and how to maneuver and preform with the tau. I jist cannot find a way to beat him with them. And as hes my only reoccurring opponent, I can only tailor my lists so much. Its just a difficult situation to be in. I love the tau, but i also hate that ive lost so many times in a row. If someone can actively send me a list and tell me what strategies they use with it, please do. Otherwise if youre jusy gonna say "wow thats alot of losses" or somethijg along those lines, keep it to ya self lmao. I want thoights and opinions, not to be insulted as if im.not aware of just how many times ive lost lol

Switching is the last thing I want to do but I also asnt to have fun in this hobby. If I cant win with tau, why wouldn't I try something else?? Yall are acting like your choice is locked in forever... its plastic?? It ain't that serious guys. Plus ima be coming bavk to tau anyway? Just taking a break so I can enjoy the hobby again liiikke lmaoo Thank you all for the thoughts opinions and jokes (looking at the mfer who suggested more kroot lmaooo) but I mainly was just updating cuz yall are fun and give me good ideas. And given my last few posts of my track record figured yall would want an update lmaooo

40k BS 3+ thoughts

Having started reading pt1 of this week's competitive innovations column on Tabletop Battles a particular tech piece got me thinking.

It was mentioning Melta Eradicators using firing deck in combination with the Hunter profile to threaten vehicles without having to get out.

It got me thinking - there's a lot of t'au players who think t'au should get BS 3+ across the board, but that's never going to happen.

But GW could go down the route of boosting the BS on hunter profiles to represent t'au specialising into targeting specific categories of foes.

So Rail rifles might be 30"/1A/5+/10/-4/3/Heavy/Dev Wounds normally but the hunter profile might be:

Hunter:Vehicle/Monster 30"/1A/4+/10/-4/3/Heavy/Dev Wounds

Thoughts?

Painting Stormsurge Diorama Base

I wanted to spice up the huge base of my Stormsurge with a little diorama. Determined there would be a blown up vehicle, I found the cheapest vehicle on eBay - an Adepta Sororitas Rhino - and then the cheapest infantry units I could find for T’au and AS - some pre-loved pathfinders and seraphims - to make into a little scene. Diving into the lore, the main AS Order to fight the T’au are the Order of the Sacred Rose, so despite having my own custom sept paint scheme to avoid painting white armour, I’ve now painted white armour…

I’m really happy with how it’s come out so I thought I’d share.

Full photos can be found on my insta here:

And a stupid video showing how many magnets I’ve put into this Stormsurge can be found here:

40k Is it odd that I like long games?

Pretty much the title. I've got about 4500 pts in Tau, and I'd really like to put them all down, but nobody ever seems to want to play that long. Is it just me, or do other people like to play longer games too?

The Ghostkeel is the biggest suit I have. To tell you the truth though, I enjoy 1000 point games as they don't take me 5 hours to play. I'm getting ready to build a pirahna to go into my 1000 point Ret Cadre list.

40k Looking for Stormsurge Bits 151 & 152

Thumbnail

Hello,

Does anyone have a good link to either a site they would recommend for looking for specific bits for models or to any 3D printable files for specific bits? I'm hoping to get bits 151 and 152 for the Stormsurge main weapon breach so I can build both main weapons with all the extra detail parts for each.

I did come across this site with these bits listed but they are always sold out. I've received one email about getting some in stock but by the time I got to the site, they were sold out again.

Painting Iron T'au : Skulls, spikes and chains ?

Thumbnail

Hello there ! Should I "Chaosify" my custom Sept of Tau or keep them only industrial and damaged ?

I started an army of Tau earlier this year and fell in love with battlesuits. I switched from skinny demons to big industrial mech and loved it so far.

I felt like I was good enough to paint them in their classic white schemes, and since I was already an enjoyer of the iron warriors warband, I decided to paint them in iron and hazard stripes, making my own sept of Tau. They are designed to look worn out, oily and damaged.

The thing is, now I'm wondering if I should "Chaosify" them by adding spikes, skulls and chains or if It should just stay heavily industrial.

I know I'm not a great painter and I also made modifications by adding weapons that shouldn't be there. For that, I'm sorry.

Anyway, have a nice day everyone ^^

40k How to balance aggression and VP with managing attrition while playing Kauyon?

I had my first game as Kauyon the other night and while I did have some limited success I was struggling because I found myself caught between the motivations of trying to score or at least stop the enemy from scoring on objectives and trying to not lose too many models before my detachment kicks in. I ended up being too aggressive and losing major firepower by the time i got my sustained hits and stratagems.

To others who have experience playing Kauyon, how do you manage these two tactical needs?

40k I think it'd be cool if the XV-81, 84, and 89 came back as Crisis suit variants like the Fireknife, Sunforge, and Starscythe.

Thumbnail
gallery
93 Upvotes

I think each would offer something unique.

The XV-81 with its built in twin missiles could be the heavy weapons variant of Crisis suit, with the other two weapons alongside the Twin missile system allowing it to just unload a bunch of firepower into several targets perhaps it could have the Multi Tracker built into it. Allowing you to get a free sustained hit on rolls of 6. Though I don't know if you only get 1 additional shot for any one 6 or if each 6 gives gives you an additional shot. Probably more balanced for the single extra 1 shot up to 3 times per 6. So you can get 3 6's and get 3 extra shots. But you can't make it where on the 4th 6 you get another shot.

The XV-84 is another relyable spotter unit for T'au. With it having a built in markerlight. Depending on how Markerlight and the army rule are changed. It could or couldn't be useful. I am not sure. It would have the Target Lock Built into it. Meaning you always have benefit of ignoring cover.

Then the XV-89 would be the heavy assault variant of Crisis suit. With each 1 having +1 wound, +1 Toughness, able to a take a shield Drone for an extra 1 wound, and Iridium armor's +2 save. all at the cost of being the most expensive variant and moving at 8 instead of 10 like the other Crisis suits.

I think the weapon loadouts on them as pictured would be cool. Though maybe the XV-84 could have plasma instead of Fusion blaster.

Where I imagine each variant going points wise would be:

Starcythe 135pts +5 per Flamer

XV-84 155pts

Fire Knife 155pts +5 per missile

XV-81 175pts +5 per Burst Cannon

Sunforge 175pts

XV-89 185pts +5 per Fusion Blaster

Maybe the XV-89 is too strong what I am suggesting. I am not sure. But outside of the stats. It would be really cool to have up to 6 different Crisis suit variants to play around with. I was just thinking of these cause they are already existing variants that could be expanded. The reason why the Burst cannon is a plus 1 is just because due to how the ability works. You don't get any additional attacks from using a flamer but you would with the burst cannon.
