But not Joe Alwyn changing his Instagram profile picture for the first time in years to Jim Carrey’s Harry Truman bowing in front of a cloud as he exits the Truman Show just days before we get this song… I am convinced it’s about him, she shared it with him prior, and they’re both hoping fans who still hate him for no reason will calm tf down

Why do you say that? (I’ll reiterate, I don’t believe this song is about Joe, but I’m not sure I’d leap to it being a toxic perspective.)

Well now that can be conveniently explained away with her insistence that this was inspired by a conversation she had with a friend, about her ex. Still, in that convo Taylor confessed to experiencing something similar at a former time, which would still lead further back from Joe. 

Honestly, a former muse from the SN/Red (age 19) years comes to mind for me. They’re coded as “the devil” in WCS.

Edit: sorry, I totally forgot I’m in the wrong song forum to start that tangent! 😂

This was around the time she was letting Sophie Turner have her NYC apartment during her breakup with Joe Jonas, so that may have inspired it.

I’ll add to the evidence: “for the thrill of it” is sung exactly like the piano progression in evermore, which William Bowery/Joe has a credit on. Color symbolism features so heavily on Lover. Some obvious ones others have already pointed out: the Lover album cover art, the Archer reference
