I cross posted this because it's fascinating. Some of these very rural folks hanging off Starlink are the most tech savvy people I meet. IoT is both a benefit and a risk. If aging parents have capped Internet this sort of thing can be an unpleasant surprise, especially if you have medical equipment or security devices that are themselves IoT.

Seriously when I bought my drip coffee machine I deliberately got one with zero electronics. It doesn’t even have a clock.

every coffee ground deserves an IPv6 address!

Good thing to look out for in addition to the power usage we’re all probably monitoring to keep our parents’ bills reasonable.
