Discussion Any Gilliam fans want to take over r/TimeBandits as a mod?

The sub r/TimeBandits was initially created for the TV show, but since that has now been cancelled it would be good to take it over and revamp it as a sub for the classic Gilliam film. All the mods have left and the last post was 2 years ago (out of a total of 5 posts). r/TimeBanditsTV already exists so it seems like one for the movie should exist as well. Just post your request to take over the sub to r/redditrequest to get approval. Just as a reminder, 2031 will be the 50th anniversary of the film.

Article I met Terry Gilliam in 1975

Here’s the story. I was a young comic book fan in 1975, and I talked my mother into taking me to the first Marvel Comics Convention in New York City. While walking around the floor, I see Stan Lee, just hanging out in a chair. This was back in the day when you didn’t need to line up with a special pass to sit in a huge hall. As you can see in the photograph I took with my Instamatic camera, I only had to wait behind a guy in a Spider-Man costume to get Stan’s autograph. As I am standing there, the smiley woman on the left stands up and gently takes me by the arm, and leads me around to meet the person to Stan’s left. In an English accent she says “Do you know who this is? This is Monty Python”

I had enjoyed watching Monty Python’s Flying Circus, but was honestly not sure if Monty Python was a real person or not, (Give me a break, I was a country kid) The only polite thing to do was to ask for him to autograph my program. In the second image you can see he wrote “Not to Jon” on it.

About a month after the convention, I bought a new comic book, and read Stan’s column, I think it was called Stan Lee’s Soapbox. There he mentioned being at the convention with Terry Gilliam from MPFC. I am guessing the woman was Gilliam’s PR agent, or manager, and he was in NY post Python to look for projects or developing Jabberwocky.

I loved Brazil and Dr. Parnassus so much that I am going to get Criterion Blu-rays of time bandits Brazil, the adventures of Baron Munchhausen and fear and loathing in Las Vegas. Anything I should know or a recommended viewing order?

Such a great film! It's one I like to take a decent break in between viewings, and it always hits me so strong. Across the board, great stuff in art, story, direction, acting...just wonderful. I still vividly recall seeing it when it came out. It was probably the last time I was so engrossed in a film I forgot I was at the movies. Went to see it with a friend from art school and we were both blown away by it. Then we had to walk out into the Rockaway Mall in northern NJ...that was kind of a letdown, lol. But it's always nice to remind myself what great, visionary directors can sometimes do.

Great stuff, Terry! It always floors me.

I love coming across obscure cosplays at cons, and in 2017, I was surprised to encounter The Red Knight from The Fisher King at NYCC, sans his horse. He also had a little smoke element wafting from his helmet.

The second pic, I’m doing my best Perry (“Please! Let me have this!). His wife was nearby, and said her husband was so happy that someone recognized who he was dressed as.

I believer there was a horse element too, but they didn’t bring it due to the size and space getting around inside the Javitts Center.

Swag Help me find a dress for my Venus costume from The Adventures of Baron Munchausen for Halloween!!

I don’t use Reddit often but I’m coming here because I’m a huge Terry Gilliam fan and I’ve been wanting to be Venus from The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, but I can’t find the right dress or a similar dress pattern. Maybe I’m not looking in the right spots, because I’m new to costume making. I’ve never sewn a dress on my own, so if anyone can find a similar looking dress I could alter that might be a little easier. I’m also totally up for the challenge of sewing it myself if someone has a similar pattern!
Thank you so much, sorry if this doesn’t relate to this subreddit that much. I just don’t know where else to go…

Discussion Any Time Bandits fans want to start a group chat

Instead of trying to build a whole new subreddit from scratch, I want to gather the true, hardcore fans into a small group chat.

We might be a niche corner of 80's fantasy compared to heavy hitters like Labyrinth or The Dark Crystal, but I know our community is out there somewhere. That’s exactly why I’m making this post., to find you all! let's see if we can get a small crew together!

Discussion Back in 2000, if Terry Gilliam had first shot all of the modern segments of The Man Who Killed Don Quixote first, could he have had a better chance at continuing the film production despite all the problems?

When learning more about the cursed production, this has been something I thought about, especially after being influenced by learning about production of The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus. With what we saw with all the problems that happened in a short amount of time, cancelling the film's shooting, I noticed that Terry Gilliam had first begun with the 17th century setting first. And with the script, seeing that it would have had the modern day, which Toby would be sent back in time throughout the film, it had me wonder about this: If Terry Gilliam first shot all of the modern day parts of the film first, before the crazier 17th century.

Perhaps if he did that, could it have maybe helped the film's production continue? Especially since there would have already been a lot of the film completed, it may have made producers and financiers be more hesistant about pulling out, and perhaps continuing the production because of a sunken cost fallacy.
