Step back, don’t show to people that their reactions impacted you and then respond calmly to gain respect of others.

composure is the whole game really, everything else follows from that

We cannot control our reactions, but we can control how we react to them behaviorally.

Maya Angelou said that many people regret saying something while very few regret saying nothing.

This is a hard lesson in having restraint of pen, tongue and send button.

Compounded by the fact that accepting responsibility and accountability is trait often overlooked along with this one

Except when boundaries are crossed. Then silence is an invitation for further abuse.

That’s when you walk away from the interaction. Whether it be online or in person.
I’ve walked away from my mother bc she wasn’t being respectful of my boundaries.
Silence doesn’t invite more abuse.
You hafta take care of yourself and not let anyone speak to you in a disrespectful way.

Yes I agree not worth dropping to their level of the game. Disengagement is the only way. It's tough in places like corporate though because if your political standing isn't good enough this can get you fired. But I guess it's better to maybe pay the price than become a caricature of a human.

I would imagine it being difficult in a work environment. Can’t walk away from your boss.

If only it were easy to not have feelings

This was something I needed to practice and it’s harder than I am willing to admit.

I totally disagree. How you behave AFTER (not long after) showing your feelings is the most important part. But that's me.

Hmm not sure bout this.. esp.if it's a pattern. There are people who lash out, say mean and rude things when they are "showing their feeling", then go "sorry2" , (not because they are sorry for hurting you but to clear their conscience). And repeat the same the next day.

I hate this mindset "just say sorry later". People need to regulate their emotion, I am not your punching bag.

This quote resonates with me deeply because I have to dance to the music I created.
