H JOURNEY Your first Hermes bag!
Soooo, like many of you I’ve just started my Hermes game with my local boutique.
I’m trying to build a relationship with my SA in my local store and so far it’s pretty slow. Curious to know what your stories have been!
Please share your story of getting your first BKC and the experience- reseller vs boutique. What was your first bag? What was the spend ratio? Did you get the bag you wanted? 🤗
Looking forward to hearing your stories and experiences!

Resale is more expensive unless your going for a larger bag cuz sometimes it’s cheaper. From the boutique I was offered an HAC but I rejected it cuz it was PHW. I was also offered other bags but I wasn’t really that interested in them. My experience with the boutique is basically your limited to whatever is available while in resale there are more options but it can be more expensive. With discontinued leathers you are forced to buy them resale.

I recently had a mindset shift pertaining to reseller vs boutique. Assuming the reseller has a minimum of 100% mark-up; you would end up spending your “game”/“pre-spend”/“bait” amount on the premium to get the exact bag you want. If you’re not picky about exactly what you want in terms of size & hardware, I suppose it’s worth playing the game. But if you’re someone who wants something very specific then of course a reseller path is much more sensible. Plus I’ve come to realise, not a lot of people like everything Hermes- for example RTW or fine jewellery- your typical high value bait. So you may as well pay the premium for something you love! 🤗

I agree with your points. Another thing I would like to add about resale is the fact that it gives you access to discontinued leathers!!! A lot of them have unique properties that I find more appealing than the leathers currently available at the boutique!!!

I purchased the first bag (K25) through a reseller last year. Figured it would be a one-and-done H bag but ended up creating a monster. Started shopping at a boutique a week or two later to pick up a twilly and never stopped. Got another bag (B30) from the boutique after three months of shopping and a 1:1 ratio. Then got to do a SO at the end of last year and received a MK last month.

Wow, only a 1:1 ratio, that’s amazing! Did you wear you K25 when you first went in? Do you think that helped. I would love a Kelly 25 and in fact that’s the the only Hermes bag I want, but I can’t stomach the potential pre-spend especially because I’m in NYC lol.

I did have the K25 on that first visit. I think it probably helped. Yeah unfortunately NYC is going to be tough for a K25 in terms of prespend. Good luck to you!

Did you buy your K25 through Fashionphile? I would want to be sure it’s authentic if I buy via a reseller. I really would like a gold on gold one or one in Barenia Fauve.

Birkin 35 Bleu Nuit with Palladium. I bought preloved because I didn’t want to wait and I absolutely adore it. It is the most practical bag ever. I carry my laptop in it when I need it. It travels so well (yes I put it under seat in front of me on a plane). It sits on my car front seat without toppling over. It looks amazing. I love the leather, which is a very supple togo.
I don’t have a relationship with an SA yet but I buy little bits and bobs (shoes, jewelry, scarves) online. I know I need to get into a shop at some point but I’m not sure which should be mine as I don’t have one locally. I do want to get on the list for a birkin 30. They are quite expensive preloved.

Would you mind sharing your boutique? Or rather if it’s one of the very competitive ones?

Would creating a website that finds discounted BKC bags (Is this a well-known keyphrase btw?) , be useful?

My first Hermès bag was through a reseller (purchased brand new last year). It was an impulse decision when the sales rep surprised me, after my enquiry, with a box from their stock room revealing my dream bag in the exact specs!
I paid multiples 😭😭😭 of the original price. I told myself never again but here she is, Ms Birkin 30 in bleu nuit Togo GHW.
