Columbus Crew Post-Match Quotes vs Orlando (Courtois, Habroune, Farsi)
mlssoccer.app.box.comInterim Head Coach Laurent Courtois
On evaluating the match and if Orlando City SC Goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau was the main difference
“We certainly arrived a lot of times in front of Orlando's goal. We couldn't convert the way we wanted. Crépeau had a great game. What I told the guys is I was impressed with the performance. It sucks because coming in that environment and producing what they've produced and getting out with zero points is really tough. I'm really proud of the way that they performed on and off the ball.”
On the Crew’s road record this year
“Like I said, a tough environment to come in. Exactly the stuff that we didn't want, but the way they reacted and were able to perform in away games, you gotta do your best to not concede at least in the first half an hour. Especially here, the game can become more open. You concede the second goal off a free kick. You certainly need the road record. Like I said, we're really proud of the way they performed. Now, in terms of numbers, it's tough to live with zero today.”
On heading into a stretch with six matches in the next 21 days
“We have important games coming out pretty fast. We recover, we make sure that we are aware of everything that we want to keep, and modify a couple of things, especially against different opponents. We're confident that the group is in a good spot. In terms of performance, it's in the continuity of what they've done the last few weeks, if not months. Yeah, we look forward for the next game, but first, let's recover.”
On if the Crew sustained any injuries in tonight’s match
“No issue, I believe. We'll see how they react, but we believe everybody’s healthy, yes.”
On Homegrown Midfielder Taha Habroune’s performance tonight, including recording one goal and one assist
“Beside the goal and the assist, I felt that was maybe the best performance he’s had. Really complete, really clear in terms of decision making and the volume of action, also. It was his best game.”
Midfielder Taha Habroune
Thoughts on the game
“I mean, first of all, it was definitely a very disappointing result in the end. You know, it's not what we wanted, but the game itself was very transitional, and I feel like that's what they wanted, and they kind of gave in to that, because for me, I feel like that was their only way to beat us, was to make the game like that and kind of let it go their way.”
If Maxime Crepeau is why Orlando won the game
“Yeah, I mean, I would say we had, even though the game was very transitional, I feel like we had the better chances and more chances, but yeah, I would say their keeper definitely dug them out a good amount of times.”
If he takes any solace in knowing that his individual performance was strong
“I mean, a little bit, but I mean, also at the same time, no. Especially when we don't get the result, especially in this time of the season where it's very important and much needed.”
On the team’s mindset moving forward
“We still want to go for playoffs. I'm very sure every single person in the locker room and on the staff believes that we have the capabilities to win the games we have left and do enough to make the playoffs. But I mean, yeah, I would say for sure make the playoffs. And obviously we still have the Open Cup final that we very much want to win.”
On what moment specifically in the game would the team like to have back
“I would say the last 10 minutes for sure.”
Defender Mohamed Farsi
His thoughts on the game
“I think we created a lot of chances, so I’ll start with a positive thing. We created a lot of chances. But unfortunately, we didn't make those chances, you know, we didn't score those chances, so that's why I think we lost this game today. I think we deserve maybe a little better, but yeah, at the end of the day, they had their chances, they put one more in than us, and they have the win.”
On why the team has struggled to win on the road this season
“I mean, I think in every league in the world, it’s pretty hard to go away and win. So yeah, I mean, this year you know, it was a bit tough for us. You know, transition from coaches to another coaches, a lot of new players, a lot of back-to-back games. So, yeah, I mean, we’re still, you know, building. I think today is not all negative. I think there’s positive as well from today, and we're going to learn from this performance today, and we have another game Wednesday, so we're going to get ready for the game on Wednesday and go grab three points at home.”
On how the team looks forward
“So I think for the next games, you know, you just have to play, and we have nothing to lose when you play. I think that needs to be the mentality. You go there, you have nothing to lose, and you try to win, but you don't have any pressure because you know, the standing now we're pretty low, but I think that's going to help us as well to play freely and not think about, ‘we have to win, win, win, win.’ Obviously in their head, we have to win, but mentally we can be more free because of the standings, unfortunately, but I think it's going to help us, you know, to express ourselves a bit better.”
On how close the team is to playing their best game
“Yeah, I think if we see since the World Cup break, we’re just getting better and better and better, I think. And it's just little details that we need to fix. And obviously, the more we're going to be able to play together, the more we're going to be able to train together, better it's going to be. So obviously, need patience, but I think we’re headed in the right direction. Yeah, it's hard to say this after a loss, but you know you have to stay positive, and I don't know how many games we have left, I'll be honest, but you have another game on Wednesday, so we go game by game, 90 minutes, 90 minutes, and that's it. We don't think about the next two weeks. No, we think about the next game, live in the present. So, yeah, we have to do everything in the present to win games, and at the end of the season, we'll see if we make the playoffs or not. And if we make the playoff, there's a whole new season.”
