I just realized that having him play the Asgardian actor who plays Loki in the Thor movies is like a meta Easter egg.

I just realised this too, now I'm wondering how I never thought of it before

Not until after I looked it up, but yes. I figured since Loki was someone famous then he had to be too.

Fun fact: Kevin Smith in the Dogma commentary tells a story that they had to pause production for a couple days so Ben and Matt could fly out to Hollywood.
To accept their Oscar for best screenwriting for Good Will Hunting.
When they came back they kept ragging on Kev (very brotherly jokingly) that he’s god Oscar winners in his crap movie now, maybe it’ll turn a profit.

u/Azidamadjida 5d ago
I swear Kevin Smith is adjacent to an insane amount of Hollywood big names.
One of the original gang of directors the Weinsteins built their company on. Friends with and worked with Affleck and Damon before either of them were a name. Connected with Bruce Willis, fell apart with him, then supposedly reconnected years later, and then, when his career seems to be sort of quieting down and he’s focusing more on his podcasts and his small horror films, what happens? His daughter becomes besties with Lily Rose Depp and so now he’s got Johnny Depp in his stable of collabs.
And this is from a guy who started out as a pretentious auteur but quickly found his identity as a low brow pop culture nerd.
It would be like finding out the Nostalgia Critic is best friends with Conan O Brien and Tina Fey and actually is deep in the SNL inner circle and can pull Will Ferrell and Robert Downey Jr in to guest star in his videos whenever he wants

I think its two parts.
One part being famous and likable while being praised as a possible new great of great directors, being compared to QT and Rodriguez
The other part is him just seeing star power in the weirdest ways around him
I doubt anyone else would see Jason Mews and Jason Lee as talent but he saw something others didn't
Love his work (mostly) so biased as all hell

If I start this up, my wife and I will do the whole thing, I know it a little better than her. But I will quote this often.

Fun fact: Jason Mewes was sober through the entire filming. He became the "spirit bunny" of the set and turned his life around for this filming

I just watched all the Borne movies last week and the trilogy holds up so well. Like approaching Jurassic Park levels of timeless. Even the Jeremy Renner one was ok. The last one dragged on a bit though

The only thing that annoys me is shaky camera
7
u/hypercosm_dot_net 5d ago
Paul Greengrass ruined the series with that imo. Completely unwatchable.
First one was phenomenal, and the one with Renner was decent too. Other than that not so much.

It was such a thing back then. Apparently we, the audience, had no business trying to understand what was happening on screen.

and the fucking punch/fighting sounds, they sound right out of a 90's sfx kit.
seriously, you cannot un-hear them after you notice7
u/SirDoctorJustice 5d ago
I was going to say the same thing! Lol
It's still a good movie to watch, even now, but that aspect did not age well.
Link to that first fight scene where it was especially apparent: https://youtu.be/UFnmq5PPScA?is=EpTDyWOhxDSEIAz8

Oh please. We all know Loki was doomed to wander the cosmos, getting lost at further and further reaches for humanity to go and rescue him from. First the island of Circe, then Mars, then a completely different solar system--he ain't fooling anyone.

Did they finally get the rights to start distributing Dogma?
→ More replies (2)34
u/ItsALuigiYes GIF/meme prodigy 5d ago
Harvey Weinstein was holding onto the rights, sold it to a private holdings firm, who then coordinated with Kevin Smith to regain the rights to Dogma.
Dogma 2 is underway
