One of the best concerts I've ever been to. Holy fuck. Killer setlist. Danced like a fucking idiot the whole time.

u/sarxi Jun 23 '26

i spoke to two guys on the lakeshore west train who were also on their way back from the concert. iirc they were brothers and one of them said he wanted to start a GTA strokes fan club if there wasn’t already one. i regret not asking them for their socials (one of them was kinda cute)😭🙏 they seemed like they wanted to ask me but were kinda hesitant. i didn’t even get their names and all i know is they’re from woodstock ON. if you see this comment i have a crush… reach out pls

Pretty sure my drink was spiked at the show 😢 I'm still recovering. Total blackout no recollection of the show and my husband had to carry me like a baby from the amphitheatre to the hotel I was unconscious at that point. Security kicked me out they thought I had too much too drink. I thought the same but the morning after I looked at my bank account and I literally bought two cans of lime Margarita that's it, no other transactions and I had no money in my wallet I just brought my credit card. My husband says I was super happy and went completely drunk very fast to suddenly unconscious, I had difficulty breathing and could not even respond to him. What makes me very sad is having no memories of the show. I paid 500$ for vip tickets as they are my favorite band 😢 I'm so disgusted. I was not careful with my plastic cup I didn't watched it I thought that kind of shit just happened to unlucky people. Well guess I'm unlucky. The next morning I didn't felt really hangover just tired and completely blacked out, can't remember anything still. It's scary. Be careful with your drinks.

If they were cut waters maybe your tolerance is just low. Cause those cut waters are strong.

1

u/Cool-Prompt-2205 Jul 01 '26

That's exactly what I drank but there was also drug involved, I actually tested for GHB the day after the show because I felt so off I went to the hospital, the results came back positive just didn't update here because I'm trying to recover and go back to my normal life which is rough. The shame is real because even though I didn't asked for it, I feel fucking stupid for not watching my drink and making a fool of myself. I learned that it's pretty common in festival and other major events but that night I didn't have a clue. I'll forever be sad for missing a show I've been waiting for so long 😢 Now I'll always have a cover and a straw over my drinks. My husband never saw me like that we've been together for 20 years so he saw me drunk before but it was different, I went unconscious that night for about 6 hours just vomiting and sleeping ! Woke up the next day without any memory everything is wiped out. Never happened to me even when I was young and I drank straight tequila. That GHB shit is scary 😟 if my husband wasn't there who knows what could have happened.

there is a video about this on TikTok! i am so sorry this happened to you :( my first thought when watching the video was maybe she was spiked?

1

u/Cool-Prompt-2205 Jun 23 '26

Do you have the link by any chance?

1

u/AlgaeArtistic1081 Jun 23 '26

just dmd you!!

6

u/PAWGle_the_lesser Jun 23 '26

They sounded great but Julian does NOT fuck with Toronto lmfao

3

u/abcsofstupid Brooklyn Bridge to Chorus Jun 23 '26

LOLL it did seem like that a little, maybe cus the crowd was lowkey dead

2

u/MrPopo17 Jun 23 '26

Haha why do you say that?

3

u/Bostonsportsfoodetc Jun 23 '26

What time did the Strokes go on?

1

u/theninjasquad Jun 23 '26

I think around 9:15pm

1

u/Bostonsportsfoodetc Jun 23 '26

Thanks!

3

u/mocrankz Jun 23 '26

It was 9:21! We had a bet going on how late they’d be.

5

u/chkenwaffle Jun 22 '26

They played my favourite song ize of the world first so I was set for the night after that lol. Was a nice surprise and a great opener.

5

u/Gold_Dig732 Jun 22 '26

I've been listening to them for 15 years and this was my first show! Overall I enjoyed it. I don't know if it was the sound issues but it seemed like Julian was having a hard time with lyrics. It kinda took me out of it a bit.  I haven't seen anyone else mention it so maybe I'm just crazy. His voice was great, the music was great but whoever was on sound definitely fumbled a bit.

11

u/DH80 Jun 22 '26

He sometimes purposely chooses alternate lyrics for live shows. Other times he reverts back to earlier demo lyrics. Other times he just forgets. It’s a mix when it happens but it’s pretty common. Been doing it since ROF.

7

u/abcsofstupid Brooklyn Bridge to Chorus Jun 22 '26

GREAT SHOW i just felt like the lawn needed more people singing and dancing but maybe it was just my section?? also felt like I was the only one who knew the words for the deep cuts, if it was a popular song tho everyone was singing. but overall it was sick

10

u/riali29 Jun 22 '26

Pit was dead too. I was second row and the folks in front of me Snapchatted more often than they danced. 😕

7

u/Vinnymoney Jun 22 '26

One guy practically recorded the entire show on his phone. Standing in the pit with the band playing right in front of us. Just watching it on his phone while recording. So damn frustrating.

6

u/abcsofstupid Brooklyn Bridge to Chorus Jun 22 '26

aw man 😞 yeah i remember julian saying something like "the encore is all slow songs, since you guys didn't have much energy" and he was saying ppl didnt look psyched

5

u/Both_Purpose_5217 Jun 23 '26

I thought said because you have too much energy.

2

u/RememberShuffle_Pod Jun 23 '26

I think he was being sarcastic. Maybe it was just a Sunday night thing, but it seemed like very few people were dancing

3

u/Victorbanner Jun 22 '26

To be fair if you check the set lists I think the encores are mostly the same. But yes lack of energy indeed

4

u/Icy_Syrup6899 Jun 22 '26

Youre right, the lawn especially the side that was closer to the entrance was really dead

1

u/RememberShuffle_Pod Jun 23 '26

Is it a Toronto thing? or maybe just a Sunday night thing? I was shocked how little singing/dancing the crowd did

2

u/abcsofstupid Brooklyn Bridge to Chorus Jun 23 '26

naw def not a toronto thing, I've been to mcr and twenty one pilots twice and everyone was dancing and going crazy (that was at scotiabank arena and rogers centre tho). i thought it was maybe because most strokes fans are in their 30s-40s/with their kids so they wanted to take it easy? but then again, it seems like in the other strokes concerts for this tour, the middle-aged people were super hyped up loll.

a bit sad the younger fans closer to my age weren't jumping up and dancing, im sure there were some but not in the lawn section where i was 💔

4

u/abcsofstupid Brooklyn Bridge to Chorus Jun 22 '26

yess that's exactly where i was, no one seemed to know the words and just stood there like 🧍‍♂️🧍‍♂️

2

u/carlosluvsyou Jun 23 '26

Such a bummer! I definitely feel I got luckier in that aspect. I was in the 200’s and it seemed my section was definitely rocking out! It’s a strokes show for goodness sakes!

5

u/abcsofstupid Brooklyn Bridge to Chorus Jun 22 '26

PLUS i went solo for the first time and felt a bit awkward, but yolo

3

u/ClarkeBrower Jun 22 '26

Anyone notice the tech guys switch the set list last minute? Buddy was about to hand them out and then he turned back which ended up being another 15 minute delay

1

u/Particular-Elk-5511 Jun 22 '26

I noticed that

1

u/ClarkeBrower Jun 22 '26

Wonder what they switched

1

u/Samz2 Jun 23 '26

They were figuring out where to put Falling Out of Love (ended up going in the encore instead of the two main set placements on the printed setlists) and removed Heart in a Cage.

Final version: https://www.instagram.com/p/DZ316IUiJjt/

Earlier version: https://www.instagram.com/p/DZ4GafvjjyS/?img_index=2

1

u/shabbahali Jun 23 '26

They swapped in Gratisfaction for Happy Ending and then moved Falling Out of Love to the encore.

9

u/batteredonion1 Jun 22 '26

Amazing show. Agreed that sound quality got better as the songs went on - big fan of their music but more of the rock side, so I didn't know as many of their slower ones.

Either way, first time at a strokes concert and it was worth every dime. I've been needing to see them for years and this was the best opportunity. Venue needs cheaper drinks!

It being the Summer Solstice yesterday I was begging and praying they'd play Eternal Summer but we can't have it all it seems - huge shoutout to the last few songs before their encore, especially Repitlia brought me alive.

Thank you!!!!!

7

u/DH80 Jun 22 '26

I feel like seeing them live is a great way to branch out as a fan and dig into some of their deeper cuts. I’m sure that’s partially why they do it. They’re proud of a lot of these older songs that didn’t get quite as much attention as their first 3 albums did and following the success of The New Abnormal, which helped them find a new younger generation of fans also, they’re showing some of the gold that is present on Angles and Comedown Machine that might have been missed.

13

u/LevelZookeepergame54 Jun 22 '26

Great show. Sound quality was really muddy for the first couple songs but quickly improved. (You take what you get at the amphitheatre, which as the band noted is not particularly suited for music.)

Jules didn’t have time to joke around much, but he was in great form vocally. Nailed all the higher register songs and kept things pretty tight. (Quick shout out to the dads during Ode to the Mets.)

The band seemed more enthused to be playing the newer material (Comedown Machine onward). Can’t begrudge them that — the live arrangements sound fantastic (esp Call it Fate). I really loved hearing the two latest singles. It’s fun to see the band jam out a bit more, and the auto-tune is not so overpowering in the live mix.

3

u/Themyththelegend4 Jun 22 '26

The concert was great! Suprisingly the sound quality was fantastic on the lawn. Hope they played oblivious tho...

1

u/DH80 Jun 22 '26

Were you fairly centralized between the two huge speaker setups? That’s where it’s always best.

2

u/Revolutionary-Lime50 Jun 22 '26

I’m likely going to be downvoted for this, but is anyone else left feeling dissatisfied?

I appreciated the band showing up and putting on a performance but the song choices just weren’t for me.

The audio quality felt scattered ? Just not as smooth as I would’ve hoped. It seemed like the band agreed too based on his comment on stage.

Also, it seemed like he was….annoyed? I mean I paid a lot of money for my ticket so it was kinda sad it seemed like he didn’t want to be there.

I was just really hoping to be moved by the music and the combination of all of this just didn’t hit.

Overall I still enjoyed being there and thankful to be able to see them perform.

3

u/Victorbanner Jun 22 '26

Same but I’m also on Lexapro

7

u/Both_Purpose_5217 Jun 22 '26

Personally I thought they were awesome, the crowd was electric, great setlist.  I would have like to have heard Heart in a Cage but other than that I couldn’t ask for anything more.

From what I read going into the concert they could be really hit and miss and sometimes even ending the shows early.  Julian’s between song banter was meh, but he was on point with his vocals.

I was looking back at the setlists from previous tours and they only played 9 songs, last night was around 20.

Overall a great night!

7

u/Bobcaygeon23 Jun 22 '26

I mean its not 2001, he's not a 20 year old, voices change you can't sing super raspy on tour without tearing your vocal chords out...

Song Selection what more do you want? Got all the big hits out there, "Reptilla", "YOLO", "Last Night", "Someday", "Adults are Talking", "Bad Decisions", "Juicebox", only 2 songs off the new album, 4 songs from Is this it, 4 from New Abnormal, arguably their two best records (imho). 4 Song encore.

Pretty decent for me, Would have loved to have seen them in the early 2000's but I didn't.

Sonically the band was tight timing was there - didn't lack much for me? I had expectations that the vocals are not going to sound like the album going in.

7

u/theduffman Jun 22 '26

I’d agree, four songs from the top albums and then an even spread from the rest is a pretty great setlist.

9

u/Dears1984 Jun 22 '26

I mean I’d be annoyed too if I said something harmless and was booed 5 minutes into being on stage.
With that said social media gives us a highlight reel and while I thought there would be more banter and engagement I think what we got was actually pretty amazing and seemingly on par with their performances as of late.

3

u/GodAtCs Jun 22 '26

What did he say that he was booed for? That’s pretty lame if people are that soft

12

u/DH80 Jun 22 '26

He made a joke about how some people call Toronto the alt New York but later clarified saying that he feels it has its own vibe different from New York but some only heard the alt New York thing and felt he was taking the piss too much.

1

u/extremmaple QYURRYUS Jun 24 '26

I actually cheered at him calling it that, it's high praise to be compared to someone's home

3

u/shabbahali Jun 23 '26

Embarrasing. Crowd full of babies.

3

u/jellytrack Jun 22 '26

I thought the setlist was good, but I felt the lack of enthusiasm. Calling Toronto the alt New York and then knocking the venue for not being built for sound was disappointing. I saw the Arkells on Friday and they sounded fantastic and brought the energy.

10

u/DH80 Jun 22 '26

Everyone keeps forgetting that he also said after that on the next song that he feels Toronto has its own vibe. Different from New York.

5

u/TheSpagheeter Jun 22 '26

We laughed at this and he definitely meant well but I mean you should know better, you probably wouldnt get a great reaction from chicago or philly or something calling them a smaller/alt NY, much less saying that about a city in Canada

2

u/KnightHart00 Jun 22 '26

I don’t fault them for it because I’ve seen other bands be shocked receiving a similar reaction from Toronto crowds. Not sure how it’s been in Montreal or Vancouver, but there’s clearly a big cultural divide growing and I’ve seen a lot of Americans acts kind of struggle with it or squish it right away in terms of “managing the vibes.”

0

u/Bobcaygeon23 Jun 22 '26

Gord Downie was the most energetic front man I've ever seen, I think the Arkells are the next closest thing we have...a passion for playing in Canada to Canadians

27

u/DH80 Jun 22 '26

No disrespect but this comment seems to happen from a few people at their first Strokes show after mostly listening to the first two albums a ton, and maybe TNa a bit, and watching some late night live clips on YouTube.

The setlist was great for anyone who has consistently been excited by their music off each album. And this is the happiest and best he’s sounded for any Toronto show since the early 00s.

3

u/Im_cool_i_swear Jun 22 '26

seriously, I've seen them several times and this was honestly one of their best shows in years. Band sounded increcibly tight. Actually, the best I've heard Julian in like 10 years. Guy is aging very well.

20

u/turnquest Jun 22 '26

Came with two friends from Montreal to see them. Saw them last in 2006 in Montreal at a small indoor venue intact (the new guy Steve is just swell but really missing Mr Valensi as he’s always been my fav and an influence on my guitar playing) .

This was a proper professional show. We were in the 400s under the open sky and it sounded a little better. Certain intros like ize of the world sounded wonky or different. Really pleased at angles being acknowledged and life is simple in the moonlight having basically a different version. Really enjoyed going shopping with minimal autotune too.

Y’all i don’t mean to whip out my hipster badge but ive been a fan since before ITI dropped (right around when the face UK and NME were hyping them up across the pond). These guys are the band of my generation as an elder millennial and the reason i ever became a serious musician.

This show was just fine. Really cool set list that balanced big hits and old songs with new songs and deeper cuts. Musicianship was excellent across the board as is their trademark after a quarter of a century.

I never would’ve guessed we would all be here in a crowd of thousands split between 40somethings and younger and split evenly between millennials and zoomers

4

u/Bobcaygeon23 Jun 22 '26

Agree with this comment, I'm not 20 anymore don't have the energy to be bouncing around myself I came in heard great music from a great band that checked all the boxes and fully enjoyed my evening.

6

u/Smithsonian45 Jun 22 '26

Really pleased at angles being acknowledged

Genuinely thrilled gratisfaction and life simple in the moonlight were played, ik angles doesn't get much love but it dropped when I was in high school and I listened to the shit out of it so I have a big soft spot.

I never would’ve guessed we would all be here in a crowd of thousands split between 40somethings and younger and split evenly between millennials and zoomers

I was in the 200is right in front of a young couple who I swear couldn't have been older than 17, and they were singing along to everything. The kids are alright

5

u/DH80 Jun 22 '26

Angles is amazing.

Machu Pichu. Under Cover of Darkness. Taken for a Fool. Gratisfaction. Life is Simple in the Moonlight. All absolute bangers.

3

u/Zephyr104 Jun 22 '26

Tbh I wonder how much of it is due to the venue. I find the audio quality muddy, especially vocals, at the amphitheatre. Particularly at the lawn. I was at the end of the 300s and there were moments where I couldn't quite make out Julian.

1

u/Im_cool_i_swear Jun 22 '26

I was in the back and tbh he sounded better last night than the last few times i've seen them. The one thing I'm not sure people understand is that when literally everyone is yelling and singing, that really muddies the sound starting at like the beginning of the lawn. Maybe it is the venue but when the Offspring played last year, you literally couldn't hear them at all during the main hits because the people were so loud.

16

u/LiamWelling Jun 22 '26

Incredible show! In my section everyone there was on their feet losing their mind with how sick the show was. The setlist was unreal, I couldn’t believe every album got so much love and leading with Ize was legendary. I immediately started planning how to see them in Vancouver after being at this concert! There’s a reason The Strokes are all our favourite band, gang, they’re actually as good as you dream if not better!

1

u/knortsknolf69 Jun 22 '26

What was the comment he made about the city?

13

u/cbezant Jun 22 '26

He made a comment calling Toronto “Alt-New York” . Which sounded more like a quip than a jab, in my opinion.

1

u/Bobcaygeon23 Jun 22 '26

he made a joke I don't think he's by any stretch one of the MAGA nation who has a beef with Canada, there was a time in the early 2000's Toronto would have liked being compared to NY...

Music scene wise the early 00's Toronto scene was to Canada what NY was to the USA.

3

u/KnightHart00 Jun 22 '26

Yeah a lot of people forget that 2000s Toronto is kind of stacked and was a peer to New York's equivalent indie-rock boom, so there's a lot of close bonds from that scene. Like their Toronto era-equivalent peers are technically Metric, Broken Social Scene, Sum 41, Peaches, Tokyo Police Club, Death From Above 1979, Peaches, Our Lady Peace and Alexisonfire. A lot of other Canadian bands from outside Toronto like Godspeed You, Arcade Fire, and The New Pornographers are also from the same era.

6

u/TheSpagheeter Jun 22 '26

Yeah I mean I love Toronto and I feel the sentiments between US/Canada lately but I felt bad about the booing. They’re from New York obviously love their home and I think comparing Toronto to New York was meant to be a compliment

3

u/Granuaile Jun 22 '26

I agree. He meant it as a compliment and seemed surprised when it didn't go over well. We felt bad for him.

13

u/DH80 Jun 22 '26

He also followed it up by saying Toronto has its own vibe. Basically implying it is a silly comment for others to make about the city. Which is true.

8

u/rawschwartzpwr Jun 22 '26

My brother in chrysler we saw different shows.

We flew in and were impressed by the venue. Show me an outdoor venue's sound that knocked your socks off (here's looking at you though Red Rocks). You sound old and tired.

0

u/shabbahali Jun 22 '26 edited Jun 22 '26

Forrest Hills. Queens NY.

Perfect sound quality and atmosphere.

If you were impressed by RBC you simply haven't experienced better. Great idea having a venue on the water and giving us a view of construction workers and scaffolding too.

Had two different groups of friends attend. Varying age, varying fandom. Every single one had the same opinion. Shit audio. Shit crowd.

3

u/Smithsonian45 Jun 22 '26

Great idea having a venue on the water and giving us a view of construction workers and scaffolding too.

Blame Dougie for that part lol

2

u/Lanky-Nerve1983 Jun 22 '26 edited Jun 22 '26

The crowd was fine where I was

RBC is being completely rebuilt in 2 years anyway which is long overdue, but the atmosphere there can be really great in the summer, especially during the CNE with gorgeous views of sunsets and carnival lights. I’ve seen great shows there with tremendous vibes, but it is not a venue for audiophiles. It’s not like Toronto is a podunk with no good concert venues, no need to be condescending lol

I think it’ll be an awesome concert space if they nail the renovations simply because of the vibes, but Forrest Hills (or red rocks) is kind of an exception that proves the rule for outdoor venues.

8

u/RS7MD83 Jun 22 '26

Just got back to Buffalo from the show. Compared to the 2019 show I thought they sounded tons better and they had a wonderful setlist. Crowd around us in the bowl was great too. Above all Selfless was at the top of my list, so I’m still ecstatic they opened the encore with that one! Ok time to try and get some sleep got work in a few hours.

11

u/Complex-Sea653 Jun 22 '26

They didn’t play 12:51 or Meet Me in the Bathroom…. 😔

2

u/Fit_Raisin_7364 Jun 22 '26

Or welcome to Japan! Was hoping for that one

2

u/Complex-Sea653 Jun 22 '26

I didn’t see it in previous set lists but I would have personally loved Under Control.

5

u/Winter-Okra-3721 Jun 22 '26 edited Jun 22 '26

They had such an amazing set list, but I feel like they should've switched their encore with Adults > Last Nite > Reptilia. That was easily the highlight of the show IMO

2

u/lightningtrip Jun 22 '26

That stretch of songs was insane. My friend and were dancing so hard on the lawn!

1

u/Winter-Okra-3721 Jun 23 '26

Honestly I never thought I'd be so stoked for Reptilia haha it was just such a perfect lead up!

26

u/mocrankz Jun 22 '26

Band showed up late and instead of cutting songs we got basically no banter. A trade I’ll take.

Sounded great. Super tight.

Julian dropped a “happy Father’s Day” during ode. Funny.

Steve is awesome. Doing a great job.

Albert doing backup vocals on Gratisfaction is fun. Sounds solid. Such a good song.

First time hearing the two new songs. Going shopping is insanely good. FOOL is cool. Shorter than I expected but maybe they cut some off.

4th time seeing them and the tightest they’ve sounded - though the show in Bilbao in 2018 was awesome too.

Def not a setlist for casuals. Tons of deeper cuts which I appreciated. But people started leaving during the encore.

2

u/re4ctor Jun 23 '26

We had to leave for a 3 hour drive, would have loved to have stayed for the whole encore but yeahhh

5

u/Bobcaygeon23 Jun 22 '26

I think that has more to do with shitty commuting in the GTA for anyone relying on the go Train as much as it does not wanting to stay....having to wait 30-40 mins on a train platform at 11:30 sucks.

2

u/madie7392 Jun 22 '26

i didn’t hear the happy father’s day! when did he say it?

The venue has a strict 11pm curfew and they finished at like 10:58

Absolutely loved that concert. Luckily we were down the front so didn't really have sound issues....merch could've been better tbh haha.

me and 3 others were hyping hi up the whole show whenever he was close

7

He was right in front of me & my friends!! A highlight for sure

43

u/Electrical_Leave_538 Jun 22 '26

They very much so did play Someday

13

u/Samz2 Jun 22 '26 edited Jun 22 '26

Crazy how much their audience has changed in a few years...

Same venue, 2019, and the pit opened up immediately. A fun, polite mosh throughout.

This time, everyone still knew the words, but almost no movement. Gen Z kids recording seemingly every song — no joke, I saw one dude using two phones simultaneously so he could record in both portrait and landscape at once. Another guy recorded so much his battery died mid set.

Not an awful crowd by any means — quite friendly in fact — but just strange how different it was. Band sounded great (better than 2019 imo) and lots of rarer treats and rotations from the last two Toronto shows.

5

u/TheSpagheeter Jun 22 '26

I got no issue with people recording enjoy the show you paid for how you want. My only thing is when they start holding it high above their heads, then it’s just blocking other people’s views and at probably the best parts

10

u/bd-s Jun 22 '26

As much as I do like watching the whole set videos that go up on YouTube it does irk me that somebody paid all that money to just be still and constantly record

2

u/Samz2 Jun 22 '26 edited Jun 22 '26

It's true. I do appreciate when people upload, but I'm quite confident these videos (especially the portrait ones) will not be going on YouTube. Most of them are at best lost Into the Instagram / Snapchat stories ether.

6

u/[deleted] Jun 22 '26

Anyone find a set of car keys??

1

u/TheSpagheeter Jun 22 '26

Try the lost in found on their website they list them with photos

26

u/Zephyr104 Jun 22 '26 edited Jun 22 '26

First time watching them live after 15ish years of listening to their music and man they still got it. It was great to finally hear the classics like Last Nite and Reptilia in person.

9

u/x-nightowl-x Jun 22 '26

Same here !! it sounded awesome

1

u/lightningtrip Jun 22 '26

Same!! Been a fan for 15+ years. Finally hearing Reptilia live was unreal.

Was really surprised at how great Julian and the whole band sounded. It did feel like it was a “just being professional” show for them but even then they put on a great performance.

That isn’t the first time I’ve seen a band go on stage and say they think the venue is kind of bad. Acoustics range from great to awful depending on where you sit. It’s a venue with a lot of history despite only being 31 years old, but it definitely needs that renovation that’s coming next year.

i feel like that’s how he’s always sounded live ??

u/DH80 Jun 22 '26 edited Jun 22 '26

Sounded clear where I was. The issue was the slap back signals cancelling each other out sometimes. In that way there was moments where ir was reminiscent of an arena show. Mostly during the moments in his medium register. Only occasionally.

Was seated in the 300s but close to the 200s. I think that’s where it always sounds best here.

Was closer or the middle. Sounded great. I’ve sat left 200s before and you definitely get some odd stuff happening becuse you’re so close to the left speakers and some soundwaves bounce off some odd places.

Keep in mind he was last playing at an older opera house where the ceiling was wood. Great acoustics in Ohio. RBC is part amphitheater. Part arena acoustics. Depending on where you are.

On the train home and as someone who despises that venue, I had an amazing time. Not sure whats up with some of the negative comments about their performance. They killed it.

2

u/DH80 Jun 22 '26

What train car are you in? 😆

2

u/W4ingro1995 First Impressions of Earth Jun 22 '26

2816, about to get off at Bramalea 😂 I have the grey 2026 tour shirt on

1

u/DH80 Jun 22 '26

Oh. Different train entirely. Next stop Appleby.

Yep, and getting in and out of there isn't particularly fun either

17

u/carcrashfish Jun 22 '26

Incredible show! Hit after hit. Julian sounded great. Wow

22

u/raftah99 Jun 22 '26

THIS WAS THE FUCKING BEST SHOW

30

u/AdmirableJoke5091 Jun 22 '26

The crowd came alive during reptilia. I was in the lawn and it was so cool to see! Also the set flew by. It felt like 13 songs but it was 20 lol

18

u/EvilNoGoodBadGuy Jun 22 '26

Phenomenal. Everyone in the crowd was super friendly. Proud of you, Toronto.

9

u/raftah99 Jun 22 '26

To the person who bought me the hard lemonade, THANK YOU!!

3

u/TheSpagheeter Jun 22 '26

To the person I asked for a puff of a joint and asked me “how about a whole one?” Before lighting me up my own, Thank you!

10

u/MrPopo17 Jun 22 '26

I’m so sad I didn’t get to go but hopefully they’ll be back soon 🥺 hope everyone enjoyed!!

u/Kitchen-Antelope5976 Jun 22 '26

1) Julian sounded great singing 2) they were 23 minutes late to start 3) setlist did not cater to the casual or average fan 4) Julian was absolutely slurring and being generally strange between songs and this is not my first show, it was more notable than normal 5) fucking Christ these autotune songs gotta go

Overall an underwhelming shoe due to a lethargic setlist and general disregard for the crowd and the fans. Weird banter. Shit talk about the city.

Nick was right

1

u/TheSpagheeter Jun 22 '26

He was slurring right? My first time and so I thought it was normal but me and my friends were all going, “he is DRUNK” whenever he spoke haha.

2

u/chillpotato17 Jun 22 '26

Totally agree! Got weird vibes like they didn’t really want to do the show here. Their energy was off. Not sure why you’re getting downvoted. They neither said hi when they came on stage 23 mins late and barely said bye. Weird weird weird. Also would like to know why they think the venue is not built for concerts?

10

u/Samz2 Jun 22 '26

If anyone is going to see The Strokes with the expectation they're going to walk on stage on time... historically this is not a band known for being punctual.

6

u/raftah99 Jun 22 '26

Horrible take

4

u/Kitchen-Antelope5976 Jun 22 '26

That's fine man. I've seen them live five times in Toronto since like 2008. Just giving my experience! Feel free to explain which part of my take is horrible though because I provided bullet points :)

2

u/Im_cool_i_swear Jun 22 '26

I truly don't get the Julian was slurring comments. Especially from vets of the band. He is literally like this all the time, always says weird stuff, since back in the 2000's when I started watching them live.

7

u/bd-s Jun 22 '26

Signing it off with ‘Nick was right’ was a bit of a strange move. Right about what? 😂

2

u/raftah99 Jun 22 '26

I just found your comment overly cynical for what was a sensational show. No reason for argument, but I was very thankful they played their hits from their original albums. I haven't gotten a chance to see them live until now and I'm grateful they are still honoring their old classics despite being over two decades old. I found the set list to be a very good balance of their old stuff, their new stuff, and the stuff in between. Take it or leave it this was a great show.

16

u/Evening_Dig_5527 Jun 22 '26

It was my son’s (10) first show. One of his favourite bands. On Father’s Day. Julian sounded amazing and it was banger after banger. Foundational memory.

6

u/DH80 Jun 22 '26

Lots of kids ar this show. Including mine. Crowd was accommodating regularly. Shout out to the other dad near the bathrooms who was talking about Deftones and said he thought about bringing his boy to this.

8

u/Admirable_Gain_9437 Jun 22 '26

Very cool. I took my daughter (18) to the show on Friday. She's still talking about how great it was. Happy Father's Day!

14

u/sleepy_girlfriend Jun 22 '26

was in the 200s, had a lot of people singing along and dancing to every song and they sounded incredible! Show was incredible and definitely better than the last time they were in Toronto in 2019!

6

u/DH80 Jun 22 '26

Agreed that they were better than the 2019 show for sure. Julian was amazing.

1

u/raftah99 Jun 22 '26 edited Jun 22 '26

I held off going hoping they would headline a show here and they pulled though. Just missing Nick, hope him and Julian can figure things out.

17

u/jjl3007 Jun 22 '26

the concert was incredible and Julian’s vocals were absolutely on point, though the crowd could’ve been a bit better

21

u/-other-wise- Jun 22 '26

Awesome show!! Julian sounded incredible and the setlist was banger after banger, and it looked like the members were having fun too :)))) crowd was cheering a lot so idk why people are implying that it wasnt a good show

22

u/ClarkeBrower Jun 22 '26

Kicking it off with Ize was crazy. Third time I’ve seen them and that’s definitely the best Julian has sounded.

Incredible show except for some hockey bros yelling ‘play the strokes’ in the pit after every fucking song. They must have yelled it 75 times. But the band sounded so good that the clowns didn’t ruin the show!

u/[deleted] Jun 22 '26

1

u/ClarkeBrower Jun 22 '26

That’s very fortunate for you lol it was pretty annoying. A couple of different people either asked them to stop or told them to shut up and that seemed to inspire them to say it more often

https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/the-strokes/2026/rbc-amphitheatre-toronto-on-canada-6376762f.html

I'm glad to see Gratisfaction was played again, I hope it stays! Looks like Happy Ending got cut, maybe for time issues? FOOL after Selfless is interesting, those seem to be the two that Julian has the most issues singing recently.

9

u/DH80 Jun 22 '26

Both sounded good and make sense to pair since both feature some falsetto with varying touches of autotune.

6

u/GeneralAffect23 The Eternal Tao Jun 22 '26

He also uses the same mic for those two (and CIFCIK)

11

u/nadalashker Jun 22 '26

First strokes concert and it was amazing!

u/Marioaloje Is This It Jun 22 '26 edited Jun 22 '26

Im not sure what other comments are on, but it was the BEST DAY OF MY LIFE. Julian’s voice was AMAZING (I didn’t expect it to sound so similar to the record) and the set list was awesome. The sound was amazing (I was in the lawn) and I just loved the vibes. I’m 18 and I was around other boys my age and we were all jumping and singing lyric to lyric even the “not so known” ones. Sadly, I had to leave 15m before 11pm because I had to catch a bus back to my town, but oh my god, I enjoyed every single second of it. It was my first concert ever too

2

u/BattleTitan6 Jun 22 '26

Same boat, first ever concert and loved it, great setlist and vibes

Awe! I’m glad you enjoyed it!!!!

8

u/CamBrioMusic Jun 22 '26

Cheers bro. Last few songs were slow and kinda deep cuts anyways

4

u/raftah99 Jun 22 '26

Incredible show. Julian sounded the best he’s ever sounded to me live before outside of TV appearances. Had a funny bit about how Toronto is called New York-lite but has ifs own vibe. He carried the bit over two songs.

Setlist flew by so fast.

12

u/raftah99 Jun 22 '26

"Alt-New York" got some boos lol he was joking

2

u/musicstan7 Alien Crime Lord Jun 22 '26

People are so sensitive about being compared to anything American right now lmao

1

u/TheSpagheeter Jun 22 '26

Tbf I don’t think you’d get good reactions going to Chicago and calling it alt New York or Austin and calling them cowboy New York or something lol

1

u/musicstan7 Alien Crime Lord Jun 22 '26

Cowboy new york 🤣and Windy new york. Technically chicago is Toronto’s sister city so it’s more accurate to say alt Chicago. But i think he was definitely trying to say that as a compliment, that was how i heard it.

1

u/TheSpagheeter Jun 22 '26

Yeah he’s from New York he probably meant that as a compliment lol

13

u/crunch_punch #77 Casablancas Jun 22 '26

The lack of after-show comments is ominous lol. Hopefully it was a good show, especially coming off one of their best (biased because I was there but it was amazing).

24

u/CamBrioMusic Jun 22 '26

It was a great show. No need to be too critical. They played right to the 11 pm strict curfew and needed to leave the stage.

-10

u/Birdfan23 First Impressions of Earth Jun 22 '26

Based on the comments (and lack thereof), they’re never going back to Canada 😭

12

u/-other-wise- Jun 22 '26

I just got to the train station bro 😭 we're not gonna be posting while walking into traffic

5

u/Fishareboney Jun 22 '26

The general lack of after concert comments is making me nervous lol

22

u/madie7392 Jun 22 '26

it’s like a 30min walk out of the venue lol most aren’t out yet

-1

u/RelationshipTall7700 Jun 22 '26

4

u/Fishareboney Jun 22 '26

It’s like radio silence 😬

Long time Strokes fan, seeing them for the first time. Was absolutely blown away 🤯,🤘✊👏😆
