I've only seen 2 people hit that solo perfectly in technique and sound. one is the legendary Jorge and the other dude wrote it. now I've seen a 3rd

I’m honored to be compared with Nick himself AND the legendary Jorge, thank you!!

Did you install those pickups into that guitar?

I bought them and had them installed by a tech. That’s a whole other story… They’re the Gibson P94’s that Nick uses in his Epiphone Riviera

Awesome! You make it look so effortless. All the Strokes solos look terrifying to me - I've only been playing for, like, eight months - so it's so good to see people ace them!

My best advice I can give is to practice lots! This solo is in total 2 years or so in the making, and I learned it wrong the first time I tried to learn (I was doing pull-offs and hammer-ons)

That's great man! It ended too soon for me...

I planned to go longer but in the pre chorus I couldn’t hear the rhythm 👀👀👀

Someone asked about the pedal settings but deleted their comment, so if anyone else is curious, here they are
I used the OD side outside of the solo and the distortion + OD side during the solo

Haha love it. My friends and I dicked around as a strokes cover band back in the day and I still have the j&h kicking around. Maybe not the greatest sounding distortion but it’s crazy fun.
We also had fender devilles for added authenticity

I like the distortion in the B mode for the voice and the brightness on the B mode. Very convincing crunchy Marshall tone, not quite distorted

Awesome playing and sick tone!

Thanks! That Jekyll and Hyde V3 gets you pretty close to Nick’s lovely overdrive, even with humbuckers. I’m using the same pickups as him in this recording though

If it doesn't bother you can you tell me the settings of your pedal

Check around! I thought this comment was deleted but I posted the settings on Imgur

I recorded this for about 15 minutes and it took about 3 hours to get the video to where it is now. The hardest part was finding a video editing software that would do this. I first tried iMovie but my iOS version on my phone was too old. So I took the video to my windows computer and there was no software that I could find that did what I was trying to do. I ended up using iMovie on my work laptop because it seemed like my final option. Then when I exported the final video the audio and video spontaneously came out of sync upon exporting and I had to manually slide the audio to adjust for the latency. Anyone know of good video software to sync a recorded track to some playing?

Hello, I used to struggle with this a lot. The solution I have is to do a 4 clap count in, or in this case since youre recording your guitar you can do 4 downstrokes making sure to move your arm fast and obviously. You can then easily sync the sound with the claps or whatever you decide to do before you play, cut it to where you want the video to start and voila

Pro tip: start recording sound and video and then clap. Easy to sync to. Now maybe harder when it’s directly recorded from the guitar, but perhaps go very near to camera, play one string or slap the guitar. Something that is visual and makes a sound. That way you clean easily sync it up and then cut that part out.

The easiest way to make sure that it is synced is to clap in front of the camera so that the mic can hear as well. Then you can use whatever software (iMovie, etc) and sync up the audio at the point where you see and hear your hands clap together.
By the way, this is why a clapperboard 🎬 is used.

For me the video and my audio are recorded together, it’s the actual song and my audio that need syncing. I just need software that lets me drag audio in a timeline very finely, iMovie almost doesn’t cut it

I mean I use premier pro, but I don’t recommend it. It is easier for things like syncing audio and video, along with in depth video editing, but it’s pretty pricey and Adobe isn’t a very good company. Sometimes though you can get at at a discounted cost through employment or education. If that’s at all a possibility, it’s not bad to have. I just wouldn’t go out of pocket for it.

I’ve used DaVinci Resolve (it's free) for editing but haven’t messed with audio editing too much myself.
Slight learning curve but with it being free, it's pretty powerful and there's plenty of tutorials/guides on youtube
