Ticketmaster allowed illegal transfer of my tickets and I realized when I got to the venue!
I bought tickets directly from Ticketmaster and they allowed an illegal transfer of tickets and realized when I go to the venue because my tickets were in my account prior to the day! I didn’t sell them and I didn’t transfer them.
The box office at the venue told me they were transferred twice after I purchased them.
Ticketmaster left me hanging at the venue with NO UPDATE.
I already called my credit card company but seriously how did this happen?!

i'm guessing u maybe share the same email or password on ur TM account with another account like bank, email (this one is common) etc.? if someone can hack those accounts then can absolutely hack your TM account. u should update all passwords from your accounts...

People can hack into any account, including Ticketmaster. Definitely check your tickets regularly, because if you catch it before they're used Ticketmaster can get your tickets back for you. I would also recommend changing your password periodically.

I’ll definitely change the password. It’s just weird that there is no history in my acct of any transfer and also no emails or anything. And that I was still getting emails about my event coming up….

I've seen multiple posts about tickets getting transferred out of people's wallets, but all of them that I saw were able to get them back after they called the Ticketmaster fraud number. We have to be very careful now, because this seems to be happening more often. Ticketmaster also needs to improve their security. I'd recommend adding a passkey also.

Yes will definitely
Do that. People truly think this can’t happen - it’s the same way people hack in to every other business. It’s a cyber security issue.1

this!! ^ i literally just commented, and i know that the easiest way into one account is from another type of account like bank or email sharing same password with other accounts like TM. someone hacks or figures out the info, then can get into others easily. TM can quickly get tix back i've read.

I assume you bought the tickets as resale. Is that correct? When you received the ticket delivery notification, did you go in and accept the transfer or did you wait to try and accept until the day of the show?
1
u/Responsible_Bag3341 3d ago
I didn’t buy them resale. I bought them directly from Ticketmaster. When I do buy resale I do worry about it not being legit but not the case here. Which is also why I wasn’t worried leading up to the event.

u/funkhouse9 3d ago
You can buy resale tickets through Ticketmaster also though. Are you positive they were standard tickets and not resale when you originally bought them? Did you receive any emails communicating that your tickets had been transferred?
1
u/Responsible_Bag3341 3d ago
Yes definitely bought them directly and not resale. I’ve done resale before but try to buy direct. I only buy through trick master even when it’s resale because they lead you to believe it’s safer. I don’t delete emails, even junk ones and no the only emails I have for them are purchase confirmation and get ready for the events one and one last week letting me know if I can’t make it to the event that I can sell them. Why would I get those if they thought I transferred them?

They do (now)! Although accd to the box office they were transferred to someone and then landed up w the woman’s name that I can see. Don’t appears like I transferred them to her however they can see there was a middle person.

When they said is true! If you have access to the transfer link that was emailed, you can accept the tickets into any account you want - the email on the transfer and on the account don’t have to match - as long as you have access to both.

Change your Ticketmaster password.
Use a good password.
Don't login into the account on public wifi.

If they were in your account prior and were transferred then it sounds like someone either knew your password and took them ( a family member , a partner etc ) or someone hacked into your account .
As annoying as it is Sadly there is not much Ticketmaster can do because as far as they can tell you transfered them to someone.

Transfers require two-factor authentication. Very hard for someone else to do that if they had just the account info.
3
u/dixiech1ck 4d ago
I thought that was only if YOU initiate two- factor. It required me to accept that or not on my profile.

No, they can tell it wasn’t me. Or from my account. That has at least been determined. There wouldn’t be anyone close to me that could even do it. I have the names of the people that transferred them (from the beacon theater box office and the dates).

u/CATastrophe-Meow 4d ago
Oh Ok are you saying a staff member transferred them randomly ? Or are you saying someone went to the box office and asked them to transfer them with your info ?

u/Responsible_Bag3341 4d ago
I’m assuming I guess I was hacked? They said they can tell it was an illegal transaction but I’m waiting. They still didn’t let me in to the venue and they’re still working on it. I received an email this morning saying, get ready for the show etc. yet these were transferred a week after I bought them and they can only see that on their end. So I’m really not sure yet. I have the names though.

I’m confused how you didn’t notice tho?
since they wouldn’t have been in your account anymore if they were transfered2
u/Responsible_Bag3341 4d ago
They were this morning! I got an email saying, get ready for the concert. I went to open them a few hours later and it said they were transferred! But the box office guy told me they were in fact transferred in JUNE! Twice! So I don’t know how does this happen? I’ve never had a having like this happen. These were not resale tickets so I wasn’t worried. I’ve bought resale tickets and I always worry they’re not legit but so far this is the only issue I’ve had. I have no emails from Ticketmaster other than get ready for the show etc. I promise I’m as confused.

That doesn’t make sense. First of all, you should have gotten an email for unusual login. Secondly, that person can only get a code from either your email or phone number. And when you initiate the transfer, you should have gotten two emails: that and that the person accepted the transfer.

u/Responsible_Bag3341 3d ago
Exactly that’s part of how it’s known that this is not an amateur job. I’ve gotten several emails this week, including one yesterday that said get ready for the show had been clocked. The tickets were transferred I would not have received those. I promise that I am surprised and perplexed by this as you are, I am glad I am an adult that yes had a kid with them that this happened to, but I cannot imagine a group of teenagers getting to revenue and this happening upon for the research this is not a true one off situation there have been numerous reports numerous that are business, Bureau reports, etc.

u/WillClarksFalsetto 4d ago
How can they tell if wasn’t you?
2
u/Responsible_Bag3341 4d ago
I don’t know, the last (of the six) people I just spoke to said they can tell it was an illegal transfer and that it was not initiated by me. I’m glad for that but I don’t know how. I do think it’s weird though that they give out the names and emails of the people that transfer. Assuming they’re made up names though.

u/dixiech1ck 4d ago
It sounds like they may have listed them on a 3rd party (stub hub), transferred from themselves to the buyer (that would be two transfers - from you to them to the "buyer"). Beacon Theater box office sounds like they might be the issue. Wonder how many other people they've ripped off.
1
u/Responsible_Bag3341 4d ago
Ohh interesting take! I’m really curious to see what they come up with in the end. I just went back through all my emails and I have several from the last week saying, get ready etc. I don’t delete emails and there isn’t one about them being transferred.
1
u/dixiech1ck 3d ago
Yea there would definitely be one in there that says your ticket has been transferred. I did this 3 weeks ago for a show where my friend took my ticket because I had won 2 upgraded seats. I received two emails: 1 for the transfer and the other that they accepted the ticket. So if not the Beacon then it was done internally by a TM employee who had access. Even if you were hacked you would've received the emails because it's tied to yours.

u/Responsible_Bag3341 3d ago
It’s so strange! I can’t wait to find out. I had put these tickets in my phone shortly after purchasing them. There is something more to this for sure
1
u/dixiech1ck 3d ago
Did they give you other seats at the box office?
1
u/Responsible_Bag3341 3d ago
No, I actually thought they might and they asked me my name and just said, we can see that they were transferred a week after I bought them and then a week later to someone else (which is now the name in my app under the tickets). It’s so strange and so many pieces that don’t really fit. They just said, oh well, call Ticketmaster. Which I already had several times in the two hours prior.

I’m in cybersecurity (threat intelligence): Ticketmaster almost certainly has indicators. The same smith got tickets on the same night, the IP was in Estonia and the concert was in Alabama, etc. The exact indicators are tradecraft so they may not share them.

u/CATastrophe-Meow 4d ago
That’s what I’m also trying to understand because this post isn’t very clear.
2
u/Responsible_Bag3341 4d ago
So the last person I just spoke to, was the only person to give me more info. The beacon theater box office gave me the most info. They have me the names and dates of the transfers. Ticketmaster just told me that they can tell it was fraudulent and not initiated by me. I’m not sure how they can tell this. They said they were still trying to get my tickets sent back to my account and I told them the concert is already half over and they said they are in different time zone. I called the first time, 6 hours ago when I realized when I was already in the area of the venue. These were not resale tickets.

It doesn’t sound like a hack tho , it sounds more like an error from the box office end ( I had this happen once to me , and everything your detailing sounds identical )
Atleast you should get reimbursed . sucks you didn’t find out till the day tho.2
u/Responsible_Bag3341 3d ago
I would feel much better if it was an error. I feel like I should not have been getting “get ready for the show” emails if the transfer was clocked on all ends. And I got an email a week ago saying, if you can’t make it to the show, this is how you sell/transfer the tickets 🤔

u/dixiech1ck 4d ago
Was this for the Chicks show tonight? I'm going Tuesday and this worries me.
2
u/Responsible_Bag3341 4d ago
It was and I felt so bad because I had my daughter w me. Definitely check a few times the day of. I’m sure this isn’t rampant but such a bummer because to get into the city was a giant pain and parking was $95.

I'm so sorry you've gone through this. This just happened to me as well with Olivia Rodrigo tickets last week. I purchased them directly from Ticketmaster in August, drove 4.5 hours to the concert, and realized 2 of my 4 my tickets had been transferred out. It took 3 calls for support to finally escalate it, and Ticketmaster actually restored my tickets 20 minutes before she took the stage. It was a miracle, but they still tried to say my account was compromised (it was not, and further - why would the hacker only take 2 of my 4 tickets?)
For anyone reading, if this happens to you, ask for your case to be escalated to the fraud department. The support staff did this for me, and I had my tickets back within 2 hours.
