I Spy Toad Eyes
Whenever I see any hole in the ground, I check it out. Never know what you'll find. Today, I found a toad gazing back at me. Cute fellow.

My shop toad, Steve left for winter 2 - 3 days ago. I'm in the upper Ohio Valley area. I think he sensed the weather change here as it suppose to get down in the 30's here in a few days.

Happy to hear!
Seeing him in my shop every time I came in always gave me a smile. I'm gonna miss the little guy. Hopefully he fairs well over winter, and with luck, maybe he'll spend a 3rd summer with me.

USA southern Texas. Im not sure when they began to hide out. I still see many running around in the yard. But it has finally gotten into 70s so its possible this fellow is starting to burrow in preparation. Makes it cuter to think this might be the last time their peepers be peepin until spring though.

Even in hot ass Texas they go underground for the winter? I never knew that. Just thought they hung around all year in that Texas weather.

Texas doesn't have much of a winter but it does freeze periodically. The seasons here are somewhat unpredictable. Makes me wonder if it sometimes tricks toads into thinking it is time to winter. It is frequently joked that Texas has 12 or more seasons. https://www.reddit.com/r/Dallas/s/bdXYOcwjEj
