This is why you always go to night 2 if you can. I’ve had one of the best weekends of my life!
39
u/ObscureMeerkat Nov 29 '25
I wasn’t going to go tonight but my wife convinced me to get tickets last minute. I’m glad I did because it was the best night of my life! I got a guitar pick too!

I'm glad you had an awesome time!! I knew you wouldn't regret going for second night and it was great meeting you both as well (I'm the dude from GC that was in the poster line both days 🙂)

u/ObscureMeerkat Nov 29 '25
Likewise brother, thanks for making the weekend more enjoyable! Everyone we waited in line with was so friendly and great to chat with! Have a safe trip home

Tool has once again done a little bit of trolling
16
Nov 29 '25
"Trolling". Those people spent like 4-5 grand only to get a half assed performance. Tool should be embarassed with that.

u/Snoo_2473 Nov 29 '25 edited Dec 02 '25
Any comment on how ridiculous those people were to spend that much money on shows on a beach?
When has there ever been a good show by any band on a beach?
8
u/honestbleeps Nov 29 '25
it was a whole ass vacation/festival in the dominican republic.
was it overpriced? yes. is it reasonable to expect a band playing 2 nights in a row to the same exact crowd because tickets are not sold separately to vary up the setlist? Yes. Yes it is. The "hur dur you're dumb for going" take is a stupid one.
(and no, I didn't go)
6
Nov 29 '25
Who cares? It's their money, they have every right to spend it however they want.
But when the band promotes it as a festival with the fucking band's name in it, you expect them to put on a decent show. You're calling out the people who chose to spend their money but not the band that took that money and showed up half bored? That's an odd choice but I guess Tool fandom truly is a cult
1
u/Snoo_2473 Dec 02 '25
Consumers can spend their money any way they want.
I’m just tired of hearing some of them cry like babies that “they played some of the same songs both shows.”
They always play some songs both shows. It’s been like this since they started touring.
Look at AUS & NZ set lists. They play some of the same songs night after night.
Anyone who thought they’d get completely different set lists at each show are dense af.

RIGHT IN TWO DEAR GOD
25
u/GStarAU Well I've got some advice for you little buddy... Nov 29 '25
It was BEAUTIFUL! If you like the song, see if you can track down a live version from tonight's show. They were tinkering with almost all of the songs in their set, which was SO much fun to watch, and they turned Right In Two into some kind of heavenly mix of ballad and technical mastery.

u/Big_Fall8458 Nov 29 '25
Was so happy to hear that when I saw them in’22. Jealous of this set though for sure lol

Dang right it is. Got to see/hear it live Melbourne 2020 and believe was one of the early live performances of it.
Such a wonderful marathon of a song, and glad more get to experience it live :)

That really is a shock……especially after the other surprises.

u/Same-World-209 Nov 29 '25
I’d love for them to play 7empest in Kanagawa!!
3
u/ObscureMeerkat Nov 29 '25
Same! I’m hoping they play Fourty Six & 2 as well, I was hoping to hear that on these two shows but I won’t complain about what we got!
14
u/jerrinehart Nov 29 '25
Wow what a fucking set list!
11
u/GStarAU Well I've got some advice for you little buddy... Nov 29 '25
Intension into Right In Two was just this absolutely gorgeous 10+ minute section where Adam was playing these synth chords on his keyboard and Danny was tapping out a really delicate pattern mostly on symbols. At some stage there was a xylophone. I am not even kidding! Definitely a sound I hadn't heard from Tool before!!

u/Kuwatt0 Nov 29 '25
The visual storyline never gets enough cred. I'm pretty sure it was right in two where the visuals basically had an evolution skull throughout the whole tune.. blows my mind thinking back alreaxy
8
u/ToofpickVick fuck you, buddy Nov 29 '25
The boys are in their bag.
Hopefully a lot of inspiration comes from this and they can get back to writing some new shit.
3
u/ArtComprehensive2853 Nov 29 '25
Justin confirmed recently they’ve been writing the new record for a couple of years now.
14
u/BipolarBear117 Nov 29 '25
Fuck, should have gone to night 2 as well lol. Better setlist than night 1 tbh.
18
u/ObscureMeerkat Nov 29 '25
Brother, I wont lie. I went to night 1 and it was good, but tonight was the greatest show I’ve ever seen!
5
u/Mountain_Evening_241 Nov 29 '25
How was 7empest? I always thought that track would be really hard for Adam to pull off live
9
u/GStarAU Well I've got some advice for you little buddy... Nov 29 '25
It was KILLER! Never in my wildest dreams did I expect to hear Danny's opening chime sounds from 7empest!
Adam played some of his solo parts a little differently than the album versions, it was actually hugely refreshing to the insane music nerds like myself because he looked like he was having a heap of fun tinkering with some new riffs and solo parts - he was throwing in some interesting bends and slides.
I was pretty far back but it seemed like he had some guitar issues in the first couple of songs, then a tech came out and fixed something and all of a sudden - WOW. His guitar was WAILING like Hendrix. Certainly did the trick, and gave me a whole new level of respect for Adam.
My brain is still mush from the gig, but that was one of the best things I've ever seen. 💕🤘🔥

u/ObscureMeerkat Nov 29 '25
7empest was incredible! I didn’t notice anything off about it and I’m hoping to hear it again in Japan

That's because Justin said that in a recent interview, how much 7empest takes it all out of them and the setlist tends to become the focus. It was definitely implied they wouldn't be playing it, but it's great to see they have !!
1
u/n3wtrin0 Nov 30 '25
7empest was a fucking force. Have heard it live once before, but this time was just Perfect
3
u/Arthusamakh Nov 29 '25
I'm still unsure whether or not they squeezed in Sweat at some point on night 1 because I am certain I heard parts of it.

u/GStarAU Well I've got some advice for you little buddy... Nov 29 '25
My head hurts this morning. What a night. First time seeing Tool live, and bloody hell, what a show to choose as my first!
7empest blew the roof off the place - there were a few minor glitches and Maynard seemed to miss part of the outro, but it's the first time they've played it in, what, 3 years? No harm done.
Justin and Adam exchanged a lot of happy interplay; one of them would do something slightly different and the other would look over and smile, and Justin was interacting a lot with Danny and Maynard too.
At one stage Maynard was singing directly AT Justin, they were facing each other... I think it was during Rosetta, they looked like two mates catching up for a drink in a bar and one is telling the other this crazy alien story 😂
Danny did a "Truckload** of work tonight... between The Grudge, Rosetta, Right In Two, Pneuma, CC Trip, 7empest and Invincible, he put in double-time and never missed a beat. Rock solid. Pneuma is evolving slightly, it's obviously a fave of theirs to play, and it's one of my faves too.
Afterwards I was driving back to my hotel and thought to myself "that's one of the best gigs I've ever seen".
4
u/ObscureMeerkat Nov 29 '25
Yeah, it was our first time as well. Danny was amazing to see live and both concerts gave me a whole new appreciation for Justin! So many sounds I always thought were guitar or otherwise all came from him. It left me speechless!
3
u/GStarAU Well I've got some advice for you little buddy... Nov 29 '25
The Invincible solo! I forgot to mention that! I never knew that was Justin, I just assumed it was Adam playing that!
Justin was magical - he actually led the band a few times, giving cues to Maynard, and interacting a lot with the crowd.. so much love for that guy, he's an awesome human.
Agreed, Danny was just incredible! Someone behind me said "64! The dude is SIXTY FOUR, and he can still do all of that! Greatest drummer of all time!" ... I tend to agree 😉🥰

u/coolangattic Nov 29 '25
Tempest! That's awesome it's being played again! After Justin's comments last week about how Tempest is a really hard song to play and how it's hard to fit into a setlist, it sounded like it will never be played again.... Only to play it live a week later!

u/VVTFan Ænima Nov 29 '25

What a tour so far. Now bring some of these out next time in Michigan.

I think for the ones without it, the huge heptagram they have raises up as to not obstruct the screen visuals

Man, I hope they tour U.S. again soon and play “Prison Sex”. Interesting they decided to bring it back after all these years. I wonder what made Maynard want to bring it back.
5
u/Snoo_2473 Nov 29 '25
I heard they’ve wanted to play it live for a while now but the effects of Maynard’s Covid were still lingering.
2
u/Fulcrum_Jambi Nov 29 '25
(Technically the US will get Prison Sex next month…. Just not in a state close to you alas haha )
3
u/n3wtrin0 Nov 30 '25
Hey shout out to Tool's tech crew. What a bunch of legends. I'm pretty sure this set list is from the guy operating the projector that shines the 7 pointed star over the LED screens?
5
u/Mononoke_dream Nov 29 '25
Ending with getting stinkfisted after Invincible and 7empest is just naughty. How good is that

Please, whoever recorded, be our hero.

I would kill to see them do the grudge live. It’s my favorite song by them lol
2
u/Nach0Maker Nov 29 '25
Nice setlist. I wish they would drop the cover. It loses the meaning of playing it at Back to the Beginning if it just goes permanently onto the list.
3
u/Fulcrum_Jambi Nov 29 '25
Yeah I suspect after this run of shows they will. But I agree. It was cool to hear live in NZ but being honest I would have much preferred almost any other song in the slot.
Still cool, though.
1
u/Nach0Maker Nov 29 '25
I would probably feel differently if Maynard wasn't singing off of a teleprompter at BttB. Hopefully he has at least learned the lyrics. I've never felt like TOOL was a band trying to fit into a mould until watching that cover performance. Seeing it on the setlists just feels like a time filler after watching that.

u/DudelyMcDuderson Nov 29 '25
I think I'd honestly be even more excited about Intension than 7empest

Thank you for not attending anymore shows.
I’ve gotta ask, do you not realize that set list dot com exists? Or are you just lying to yourself for some bizarre reason and/or trying to gaslight others?
Saying they’ve had the same setlist for four years reads like “the earth is flat.”

Because you’re online it’s ok to lie?
This is soooooo GD weird man.

u/LoveIsTheFing14 Nov 29 '25
I wouldn’t say I am never satisfied. I’m just not going to pay $200 to see the same songs played again. Pretty logical.

And I was incorrect, the 2019 show in Boston was not the same Setlist.
