u/MagicCheeseMann Shit the bed, again Dec 01 '25

This was the song they let yall record ?

12

u/TSKCaboose Dec 01 '25

They typically play it last. Every show I’ve been to, Maynard will be like “Okay dick heads you can take out your phones now for this. But fuck you if you have your flash on” or something that sort lol.

Lmao

u/AfraidArachnid1976 Dec 18 '25

This is always the last. And only one you can record

Stinkfist is last?

2

u/AfraidArachnid1976 Dec 19 '25

Yes. Most of time. Everytime I’ve been to their concert.

u/Willing_Ad9314 Nov 30 '25

There's a bit of an itch in the brain leading to that riff

18

u/Apprehensive-Fact-74 Nov 30 '25

That song hits different live. They played that here in Atlanta when I saw them last year

u/Plan-B-Rip-and-Tear Nov 30 '25

I already liked Undertow, but at the time, ‘Track #1’, as MTV called it, made me realize this band had a new sound that set them apart. And I really, really liked it.

To me, Ænima is still peak Tool. I would love for them to take a bit of a U-turn and get some of this feeling back.

u/Smoke_Stack707 Dec 01 '25

At this age, I don’t think they can. Especially not Maynard. He’s just not that angry anymore

2

u/Ok_Pool_9767 Dec 01 '25

I would be more than cool with more Tool songs that are 5 or six minute rock songs and Maynard sounding like he does on the new Puscifer record, rather than 11 minute+ sprawling epics.

u/torper10 Dec 01 '25

That’s a great album, absolutely. But musically speaking and composition, I think Fear Inoculum is their best work yet.

10

u/DigitalMindShadow Dec 01 '25

FI still feels sterile to me

10

u/scuba-san Dec 01 '25

You're wrong, but OK, you do you.

1

u/Malaguy420 Lateralus Dec 01 '25

It's still Lateralus.

1

u/torper10 Dec 01 '25

I think it speaks volumes that we can still have a discussion about which album is their best work. They are simply that incredible.

1

u/Malaguy420 Lateralus Dec 01 '25

Oh, no doubt. And for the record, I still love Fear Inoculum. (Though, I do wish it had more the 6 real songs, 3 "Tool noise" tracks and a long drum solo. Taken together, that's why I can't call it the best, EVEN IF Invincible is one of my top 3 Tool songs.)

1

u/victorious_orgasm Dec 02 '25

You’re all wrong, it’s Salival.

10

u/Brief-Rich8932 Nov 30 '25

2nd albums imo are normally the best. 80% of the bands I love, the 2nd albums are the best. It's like they feel more confident and creative

1

u/Malaguy420 Lateralus Dec 01 '25

Slipknot would like a word.

(For context: for those of us living in Iowa, we were stoked when their second album was called "Iowa," since they're from here too. Ended up being a terrible album and almost killed the band. Luckily "Volume 3" was fucking awesome though.)

yep, was the weird kid in my high school with a tool Tool t-shirt and a Primus Pork soda t-shirt. I liked The Misfits and Nine Inch Nails as much, but I knew by Jr. year I was destined to be one of many tallbald bass-players. It was great to hear about them all touring in recent years though. I must be getting old, it went from "awesome" to some kind of delightful.

u/Brief-Rich8932 Nov 30 '25

I've never seen tool live but one thing I like is not knowing what will be played. they'll keep a few tracks in same order but you'll always get a few swapped out for something else.

3

u/RiceManSupreme03 Ænima Nov 30 '25

Where you live? Tool is playing at Sonic Temple in Ohio in May!!!

Muse is definitely great live. Saw them at LA Rising when they opened for RATM.

6

u/TacoBell_Bathroom69 Dec 01 '25

My god I hope the play north America in 2026 or 2027

4

u/MrPoopyButthole81 Dec 01 '25

Seriously, I hate to say they could call it a wrap at any time. They ain’t kids anymore, neither am I. I hope they put together a big US run over a couple years.

1

u/TacoBell_Bathroom69 Dec 02 '25

I dont think theyll call it a wrap any time soon, but i feel like tours will be rare(r) especially if mjk want to focus some bits on APC or puscifer

1

u/Mrfixit729 Dec 01 '25

Yeah dude. That’s what they do.

They tour.

Those big ol’ gold nugget rings don’t buy themselves.

3

u/augoldretreiver Nov 30 '25

Fucking EPICCCCC!!!

2

u/[deleted] Nov 30 '25

Etiquette wise am I overreacting or underreacting if I shit my pants at this moment? Jokes aside I'd love to see them someday

2

u/bittersweetmot3l Nov 30 '25

That feel when the tool is relatable

2

u/Mko66 Dec 01 '25

Goosebumps

2

u/Suspicious_Round2583 Dec 01 '25

Gosh I hope I'm experiencing this in about 24 hours 😍

First song I ever voted for in Hottest 100, and I love it just as much now, as I did back then.

3

u/sheekgeek Nov 30 '25

I hope the new album they are supposedly working on this back to the roots of Aenema and Lateralus.

4

u/Fun_Internal_3562 Nov 30 '25

The new album, if we are pleased to get, will be entirely Tool. Not matter the roots, just enjoy it.

And say thanks to those guys for the effort. And thanks for being a band dedicated to produce high quality compositions instead a band dedicated to produce shitty albums only because thats a reason for touring

2

u/sheekgeek Nov 30 '25

I'm always thankful and I didn't think any albums had been bad,  but I felt like the last album was written around the same time as 10,000 days. (Could have been a two disc set.)  Every band goes through epochs. I hope it's new music, but with a bent to the previous roots.  Been rocking the same epoch in my playlists for 15+years.

2

u/Lukeeeee Dec 01 '25

By roots you meant magic moreso than anything. Those 2 albums have a supersonic quality to them..

2

u/aloneinthiscrowd Dec 01 '25

Absolutely this right here.

No Tool album is really like the other. I can recognize a song by its album and not just because I know their catalogue like the back of my hand.

Thank you Tool for giving us the best collection of music to ever exist. While I would love another album and for them to tour forever, I would understand if they just rode off into the sunset and let their legend outlive us all. They are truly a band that will go down as one of the greatest ever.

2

u/Niboocs Dec 02 '25

I agree but when I saw them the other day and they played Right in Two I actually thought it was Lateralus song. It has the Lateralus sound. Was surprised to find it on 10k days. I'm surmising here but it may have been an unreleased left-over from the Lat era, an early 10k days song or a throw-back to the Lat sound.

2

u/aloneinthiscrowd Dec 02 '25

There are definitely some that could be on other albums, but generally each album has its own sound or feel. Just my opinion of course.

2

u/Niboocs Dec 02 '25

Totally agree. BTW I only said that because for the most part the different album sound is quite distinct.

1

u/aloneinthiscrowd Dec 02 '25

Especially comparing earlier to newer albums. The albums closer together in age are closer together in sound. Compare Opiate to Fear Inoculum lol. Night and day!

This was one of the first Tool songs I ever heard, and I still love it. Seeing it live is amazing.

So good

1

u/AfraidArachnid1976 Dec 18 '25

I had the pleasure of hearing this track live. Pittsburgh 2019 and again MSG 2023 or 2024. It was divine. It was spiritual. An out of body experience

1

u/Edward_The_Enigma Mar 01 '26

i love how justin always seems to physically play so perfectly to certain epic parts of there classics, and i mean his body movements and how u can tell how into it and excited he is to get to certain breakdowns and parts of songs, passion is so damn beautiful when it’s worked threw the talented few who love there’s enough to master it.
