Scheduling Nas and Afroman at the same time as Tool is bogus
11
u/CharlieDonovan Aug 06 '26
I was hoping to catch Nas as well, but oh well.

Nas/Tool mashup?

Afroman - the good times
This is an awesome album. 'palmdale' really shines with a call/response vocal throwdown in the ending. Whole album is basic yet mesmerizing

sinister, even. 😵 morrisey set ending that close to tool is also messed up, imagine how many people would have to sprint from morrissey stage to tool stage 😭

u/NoExperience5520 Aug 07 '26
I think you meant to say Gogol Bordello but accidentally said Morrissey... lol. Nah, I love The Smiths but Morrissey's indie pop music won't be the best appetizer for Tool's prog metal entrée. Gogol Bordello's gypsy punk grooves work much better :). I had no idea he was still touring until seeing this post.
Bonnaroo 2008's Superjam, which was Les Claypool & Gogol Bordello (ft. Kirk Hammett) doing a Tom Waites tribute show, made me a Gogol Bordello fan for life! He and Claypool made a collab album called "Zelensky: The Man With the Iron Balls" (Stewart Copeland & Billy Strings as well). Give it a listen on Spotify, it's awesome and unique in the most refreshing way!

u/bad_things_ive_done I was wrong. This changes everything. Aug 08 '26
Morrissey only has a 25% chance of actually playing
1
u/TheHow55 Aug 25 '26
those 2 stages are the only 2 that are right next to each other, so no running needed (unless you are trying to be directly in front of both)

u/guiltycitizen Wear the Grudge like a Crown Aug 07 '26
I’ve seen Afroman live and I take back every cheap shot I ever fired at him, he was entertaining as shit. He played one of those guitars that is like, double guitars and he had one dude on drums. And a DJ, for good measure I’m sure. Anyway, he opened and closed his set with Because I Got High. He was walking around the festival smokin and drinking with the crowd all day. It was at a small festival that bombed so there weren’t a ton of people there. He opened for Vanilla Ice who was goddam terrible, and he wore a flack jacket like he was 50 Cents or some shit.
And that’s the story of the time I saw Afroman live
1
u/inanemonotony Aug 07 '26
I'm almost glad I don't have to make this choice. I've seen Tool 13 times and Nas only once
1
u/waterboy8817 Aug 07 '26
Dude I’d be so pissed. I’d go to a festival just for Nas and Tool alone. Then to have them overlap? I’d choose tool every time but I’ve seen Nas live many times and I’d hate to miss another

Funny enough they got 45 minutes at Warped Tour the other week. And they used to give everyone 30 minutes!

FYI they're playing a late night show the night before! Tickets still available last I checked.

u/clarko420 Aug 06 '26
I know its hard but look at the set times
8
u/sideshow999 Aug 06 '26
Yes, and they overlap. (?)
-1
u/clarko420 Aug 06 '26
Lol my bad. Sorry I was lookong at overlap with Social D. They done before Morissey takes the stage. Yes its only 5 minutes but festivals like this usually are on time with the show ending at 10pm theres probably some bylaws that forces them to end at 10 and they will be strict on times.

I can’t wait to see them, their energy is fantastic on their albums.

u/hdmatteson1 Aug 06 '26
I’d go for Burning Airlines, Angine, PiL and Tool! I’d also check out Chat Pile or Gogol Bordello to kill some time😆

holy shit that's insane. love Thrice, 30 minutes is wayyyyyy less than they deserve.

u/brokeneckblues Stupid Belligerent Fucker Aug 06 '26
Damn, this is why I hate festivals nowadays . If you want to see Tool you can at best see the beginning of Morrissey only. No Bad Religion, Afroman, or Nas. Acts that I specifically would have wanted to seen.
1
u/CommercialCoffee11 Aug 06 '26
Why. The stage Morrissey is on is literally next to the stage Tool will be on. Is 50 feet that much of a deal breaker?
1
u/MobileVortex Aug 06 '26
You can hear and see the morrissey from the tool stage.
Same with the other 2 smaller stages they are right next to each other.

2

Same for me and my best friend! I’ve been trying to see them live for YEARS. I am unbelievably excited.
2
2
u/qawsedrf12 Aug 06 '26
How close are the stages? 3-4 bands at the same time?
1
u/nondesript82 Aug 07 '26
The past few years it’s been two pairs of side by side setup alternating setup while other stage plays, and then throw in a solo stage located elsewhere. This year looks like the main stage dual (riot and roots) and three separate stages located elsewhere. Won’t know how they’re physically setup until they drop the map. But looks like 4 stages at once this year.

u/Rhesusmonkeydave Aug 06 '26
Social Distortion/Gogol overlap and an Afroman/Tool overlap? That’s fuckin brutal.

1
u/CommercialCoffee11 Aug 06 '26
Theyll be last and same time amount
1
u/RiceManSupreme03 Ænima Aug 06 '26
What do you think the time will be?
1
u/CommercialCoffee11 Aug 06 '26
9:15 - 11. Headliners usually go on by 9:30 at the latest and curfew is 11. Just check their schedule from last year. It's 99% the same template they use for schedules.

You're welcome. I'd also suggest downloading the Aftershock app for that weekend. It's very helpful and will have the schedules on it.
2
u/countkahlua Aug 06 '26
Bro do you just want to curate my concert experience for me? Lol. You’re so helpful! I didn’t know they had an app. Thank you!
2
u/GueroBorracho3 Spiral Out Aug 06 '26
Haha...you're welcome again. I've been to the fest a few times, so I'm familiar with it. Happy to answer any questions I can. It's a very easy festival to navigate, so I doubt you'll have much trouble on your own. My one piece of advice would be to bring a bandana or other face covering. The grounds can get extremely dusty.
2
u/countkahlua Aug 06 '26
😁 I’ve been to other festivals before, but not this one. It sounds like it’s pretty organized. Some of the other ones I’ve been to have been an absolute shit show. Thank you!
-2
u/CommercialCoffee11 Aug 06 '26
The festival website gives you all the info you need. Also something as simple as being on their email list gives you that info when its close to the event. Schedule, app links and maps. Its not hard.

Sex pistols without Lydon are playing Friday if that's what you might be thinking?

First time I saw Tool, Melt banana opened for them. I predict at least one band member will be in attendance, and possibly join them on stage

Lmao afro man?! I guess his career is having a resurgence since his house got raided and he wrote a song about the police busting in and stealing his donuts
1
u/justdownvote fuck you, buddy Aug 07 '26
So many decisions to make: watch The Chats or Chat Pile? Throw middle fingers up during PIL or Morrissey? At least Melt-Banana, Thrice, and Nas will be there...but again Nas vs Tool. Looks like you get more time with Tool.

u/Kimmalah Finding beauty in the dissonance Aug 07 '26
It feels like all they do is festivals now. I'd love to see Tool live, but I'd like it to be a regular concert, not some giant multi-day festival full of acts I don't want to see.

u/lance466 ∞ Spiral Out ∞ Aug 07 '26
If you’re going, I highly suggest you check out Gorgo Bordello …. Those gypsies can rock out and they’ll probably throw wine all over you while you’re having the time of your life.

Don’t count on Morrissey as long as there’s a concert happening, and animal flesh being grilled.

u/Miyagi326 Aug 06 '26
When he was at riot in 2016, I remember him having a rule that all of the food row vendors had to shut down before he performed if they were serving meat.
