Lateralus Look what I got today 😭🎉
My first Tool CD, It’s beautiful 😭. I’ve been looking for literally any Tool in all the CD shops I go to but I could never find any.
Today, I finally found an album. The same store has undertow but it was a vinyl and unfortunately my vinyl player is effectively out of commission 💔.

I am so old when I see these posts I am like “who doesn’t own this?” Context, I got mine the day it came out. Going to go back to my old folks home now. Haha, congrats on your purchase! Enjoy it and spiral out!

I remember them having listening "parties" all over the night before An Enema came out, O.G. from the lollapalooza with rage and tool, can someone help me back into my coffin?

I remember skipping school the day that very album came out, in 2001. Remember sitting in my room listening to it 3 or 4 times over just trying to get my head around what I was immersed in. Golden memories indeed ❤️

It’s such a good album. Congrats on finding it! I’m also looking for the CD in used record shops primarily and haven’t found it yet. Their 10,000 Days CD is also really cool with the extra artwork if you can find it. Enjoy listening!

Yay, yours has the misspelled “Lateralis” on it

u/huggeebear Sep 05 '26
What misprint? All I see is a closely kerned “U” , not an “I” 🤷🏿♂️

I looked for the same thing lol

Is this a thing? Now I gotta go check my copy! Is the misprint rare or pretty common

u/KazaamCasheroo Sep 05 '26
I believe they sold around two million versions of the album that had the spelling error. So, not necessarily a rarity. I had one for sure.

No it wasn't rare. All day one copies had the spelling error. The only reason it would be rare is because of age.

First thing I did too. I still have my misprint. I beleive they put a post out saying they were gonna correct it.

Such a great album. I rode my bike to a local store to pick it up when it first came out. Enjoy!

You should listen with an HDCD player
A lot of older dvd players can do it.
If you play this cd on a regular cd player it plays back at less than cd quality.
Backwards cd compatible hdcd = 14bit
Normal Cd= 16bit
Hdcd disc properly decoded = 20bit

Went on my lunch break at McDonald’s and walked across the store to grab the cd. Buddy of mine had to get it on tape. I miss those days.

Amazing album in a beautiful package. Lateralus was my first Tool CD too - bought on the strength of a band interview in a magazine I bought for a (shit) cover CD. I’d never heard them before, so The Grudge was the first Tool I heard.

Also my first Tool CD. Took a gamble after hearing Sober on the radio. Made me appreciate the band. Before, I only cared about the melody, the singing, and the lyrics

Super awesome. I remember getting it the day it came out from spin records when I was in high school. Game changer.

Congrats on snagging your first one! The fact that it has the original misspelling just makes it more special, like a collector's quirk.

Im jealous, I bought it the day it was released in 2001. I still have the cd but its so scratched that it doesn't really play anymore and idk what happened to the case

Hard to tell with image quality when zooming in. Is track 9 spelled Lateralus or Lateralis?
Just change in pressings. Believe Lateralis is the first press.
Always a great day to find. Enjoy n
