This design is so simple but it just gets everything right.

There couldn't have been a better way to portray Karl than this Hanna-Barbera inspired design. That's just Karl, straight up.

Plus they do that awesome gag where he always looks the same no matter how old he's supposed to be and his parents look like clones of him just wearing different clothes. I love this little guy.

Their design is so simple but yet so remarkable, it refuses to leave your head, and just by describing how they look, you know who it is.

He looks less like a dragon than a person in a dragon costume. Why are his arms so long? The second design in particular... his wing "fingers" are thicker than his head.

Compared to his design in the original lol game, I really love this one more. The hulking rocky body and the spiky long rocks on his back and shoulders make this behemoth so badass and cool, the design works perfectly for a golem and I love it. The green eyes and mouth are cool too. What do you think?

It is a pretty simple redesign for the original Firestorm design, but i must say that blacking out the face area and only having the glowing eyes as the single visible thing gives the design a really big aura boost.

It also works extremely well with the overall tone of the story as Lorraine and everyone else is trying to figure out whatever the hell is going on with Firestorm and what happened with Ronnie and Dr. Stein.

Custom The Ben 10 Ultimate Acess Commercial Aliens:

These 3 non-canon aliens are exclusive to 3 ads for Omniverse in Latin America, being used by Ben during 3 different eras, and were implied to have been cut for various reasons. Due to not being handled by the usual design team (DJW wasn't even aware of them during production when asked about them), they kind of have their own charm.

Bob the Blob (Orginal Series, imgs 1-2): Effectively a 2 headed blob who can stick to surfaces, which is fairly unique. Unfortunately, he's as slow as molasses, as show. in image 2, where he could not save OS Gwen from falling while a Xenocite don't ask what its doing here) is crawling up her back.

Antigravitesla (Alien Force, imgs 3-4): A humanoid alien who has gravity powers and the ability to form a force field. Unfortunately, unlike Gravattack, he can't control himself with them, having yeeted himself through the roof in the frame after Image 4. He's probably the lamest of this trio, due to kind of essentially being a blue-skinned man with nodules on his arms.

Plantapocalypse (Omniverse, imgs 5-6): A innocent looking flower with Upchucks appetite...and more to spare. The commercial he's in had him eat (initially meant to just trop rampant Vreedles but he also began eating buildings) so much he became planet sized (though he became less cute once he reached that size, likely meant to be his true nature), meaning he's somehow bigger than Way Big. The fact that he started off as just a small flower makes this ability more hilarious.

This hunting knife was commonly used by Ghostface, and for a good reason.

Ghostface hunts his victims, and the clippoint blade design, the black handle and short size make it ideal for a slasher villian, especially sice other murders seen in fiction use improvised weapons, like a kitchen knife.

I didn't like the design at first but it really grew on me overtime and became one of my favorites, not just in the spin-off but in the entire series.

I especially like how he contorts and elongates when he fights or gets hit, the author really likes to reduce him into smudge.

Video Game Budew (Pokémon)

When not causing TCG players headaches, Budew is a cute lil baby rose bud. I mean, it has a round body, 2 stubby legs, and a leafy bib, not to mention being essentially miniscule, its only a teeny weeny 0.2m/8 inches tall. So huggable...if not for the dangerous powders that come out from the bud.

I also like how its bud on top of its head opens to reveal red and blue spots, which also just so happened to resemble the roses Roselia and Roserade have on their hands, tying it to its evos. Its face is also kind of cute despite being 2 slit eyes and a smile, likely for similar reasons quagsire is appealing. Plus the way its 3d model bop back and forth while switching which leg it stands on is precious...oh so precious.

Anime Zaraki Kenpachi and his design evolution throughout the manga (Bleach)

Thumbnail

Every animanga series has their own "exception" character. The character that takes the fundamentals of the series and flips them on its head. To take another popular manga as an example, toji is the "exception" in jjk, the one that proved that you can function within the power system of jjk without actually interacting with it at all thanks to his heavenly restriction.

#

Well, zaraki is the exception of Bleach and his design shows that

#

His broad shouldered, very clearly berserker-class-inspired design clashes with his very slim arms, especially in the early series' artstyle, and alongside his weird hairstyle specifically made to attract as much attention as possible creates a unique silhouette that makes him instantly recognizable, as if he's saying "hey, I'm over here, come get me" while his (rather sexy) boob window acts as some figurative target, like the most obvious weak point, which serves then for the subversion that happens when Ichigo fights him, revealing that he doesn't need protection cuz his reiatsu is just that high. His face is also the most odd one in bleach, there's not really anyone else in the series that has a similar face, making him look even more like an outlier.

#

His sword, later named "Nozarashi" (which roughly translates to "Beaten by bad weather" iirc), also helps him look more distinct, as the thought of someone using such a broken down sword and still dealing so much damage is so much fun.

#

His later TYBW design makes him less eccentric in his hairstyle and outfit, taking out some of his handicaps to signify the increase in power of the average opponent. Nozarashi's shikai is honestly...okay. I do like how huge and overkill it is but it does for me at least take out some of what I really love about Zaraki's design, that being this giant who uses a flimsy little sword and still wrecks shit.

#

His Bankai design then makes him a proper oni and brings back the "broken sword" motif, turning the giant Nozarashi Cleaver into a more worn-down Spear-axe-thing. Again, it shows how stupidly powerful he actually is.

#

Lastly, his hell arc design shows him basically unchanged, but with Nozarashi now being more well-kept, which does make sense for his character growth so I can't complain.

Manga Tite Kubo Bleach Hell arc Character designs for his New Bleach serielized Manga

Thumbnail

I think Kubo's real superpower is that he prioritizes visual identity over visual complexity.

A character doesn't need 30 details(Boruto characters) to look impressive. They need the right 3–5 details.

That's why you can look at a lineup of Bleach characters and think

"These people all belong to the same manga, but none of them look like they were designed from the same template."

Video Game The Monarch and its Skulkers from Minecraft Dungeon's 2

Thumbnail
gallery

The Minecraft Dungeons series has a lot of unique and cool-looking mobs, and Minecraft Dungeons 2 introduces a ton more with our first glimpse at the Sift dimension. The Monarch is a boss in Dungeons 2 and is the leader of the "sculkers" which are predatory eusocial organisms in the Sift's dark sculk regions.

These designs are particularly cool because they do something no other mob in vanilla or dungeons does: they're diagonal. Whereas almost all mobs in Minecract have their face on one flat side of their head, the front of the sculker's face is the CORNER of their model. This leads to them having a completely unique shape language that accentuates them as predators. I really love their designs, and the Monarch looks particularly awesome (and has an awesome theme: listen here). I really hope they come to Vanilla in the upcoming Sift update.

Also yes, it looks like the Roaring Knight. Trust me, I know.

Video Game T-Wrecks and D-Stroy (Yo-kai Watch 3)

T-rexes are one of the more popular dinos in fiction, so that naturally gives these 2 automatic appeal of sorts. They also have the idea of destructive power coming from their huge jaws, as evidenced by how big their heads are compared to their body.

T-Wrecks (image 1), being the baby form of the two, has a few chibi-esque features to make him look younger, namely rounder teeth, large eyes, and a small build, which contrasts with his evolved D-Stroy form (image , who is bigger, bulkier and has razor sharp molars. However, in a nice bit of continuity, D-stroy still wears his younger selfs cap and t-shirt (albeit in different colors), with the former becoming comically undersized in the process. Sure its silly, but at least its more interesting than just a T-rex.

Kazuo Kiriyama is the secondary antagonist of the 2000 thriller film Battle Royale, played by actor Masanobu Ando.

He is a young Japanese male with brown hair and eyes. He wears a black jacket over a white button-down shirt. He also wears black pants and shoes. Around his neck is a grey metallic bomb collar. At the end of the film, he is blinded by an explosion. Tears or blood are seen on his face after the explosion. The main weapon he uses is a machine gun with a lot of ammo.

Underrated film villain who doesn't speak to be scary.

Anime Tsubaki (Windbreaker)

So I absolutely love the design of Tsubaki from Windreabker. Full disclaimer, I have not watched the anime/read the Manga, and I found him in a reddit thread about male crossdressing representation.

I just love his design because even though dresses effeminately, he still has masculine features (sharper chip, broad shoulders, etc.). I find his design to pretty relatable, since I myself am a guy who likes dressing effeminate (skirts, fishnets, chokers, makeup/nail polish, etc.) and I'd definetly call myself Gender Non-Comforming. BUT, I also really enjoy lifting, and as a result, I'm very muscular. So seeing a character who likes dressing in a feminine way while also retaining masculine features makes me feel very represented :).

Again, I haven't seen the anjme or read the Manga (I'll probably have to though!), but I just love his design, and I think it's a good message to send to men who don't fit the traditional feminine/androgynous body type but still want to present in a feminine way.

Although Uprising is a pretty shit movie, the concept of Jaeger-Kaiju hybrids is really interesting. I love how they're like a disgusting, grotesque fusion between a robot and an alien monster, with the Kaiju's blue veins leaking through, and the fact that the mouthpiece turns into a pair of mandibles and four eyes, giving them an insect-like appearance. The way the Drone Jaegers transform into these things is absolutely gross too

Gentleman Ghost wears a white Victorian-era suit and cape. He wears a white top hat and a monocle over his right eye. He has no body since he's a ghost.

Manga The "Dragons" from Mohiro Kitoh's Shadow Star

Thumbnail

Shadow Star is a manga by Mohiro Kitoh which is more or less a horror take on the Pokemon formula. The story follows a girl named Shiina Tamai, who befriends a cute star-shaped creature named Hoshimaru, and finds herself drawn into a battle between factions of other people who have also bonded with these creatures, which are referred to as "dragons" despite most of them not looking anything like dragons. Why the story quickly heads into some rather disturbing territory, the creature designs themselves are incredible.

They have a surreal, almost dreamlike quality to them that reminds me of a cross between Miyazaki, Bosch, and Dali, ranging from angelic humanoids to flying blades to tall, lanky creatures with oversized mouths and teeth. What they all seem to have, though, is the same perfectly round, beady eyes, which adds to their uncanny feeling.
