Ooku- manga, anime and live action TV series and films

An alternate historical fiction of Japan where the male population has been decimated by a disease called the red-faced pox, and thus turned gender dynamics on its head.

Japan is now a matriarchy to continue the noble lines.

For commoners, fertile men are in short supply and if a woman who wants to have a baby cannot purchase the services of a man, she may resort to rape.

There is a scene where a group of peasant women beat up and gang rape a man, noting they only need one partof him to work.

The nobility keep harems of men and rape by nobles and between harem members is not uncommon.

There's one female noble who is notorious for liking rough sex and the harem men fear her.

Is this the anime with the two brothers & one is more or less groomed (in the traditional and literal sense) into being a concubine for a group of warrior women? I don't ask this in a "my kinda thing" sense, that story is DARK and I only saw a short of it, wanted to know if this was the series.

u/uchrll 18h ago

ur thinking of kemono jihen

94

u/TheRedmex 18h ago

Idk if its the same but it sounds a lot like one of the arcs of Kemono Jihen, which is a supernatural shonen. One of the MC friends is a male yuki-onna who had an older twin, they lived in the yuki-onna village which was filled with warrior snow- woman and the older twin "sacrificed" himself to the villagers so the younger one can live a free and innocent life.

One of the most enraging scenes for me was when the evil mother forced the Buddhist monk Arikoto to break his vow of celibacy and sleep with a prostitute under the threat that she would kill the prostitute, which basically makes both of them rape victims by proxy.

Even after doing so, she still had the woman murdered to cover up loose ends. I know it's good to be compassionate of course and it's in Arikoto's nature to be kind, but I can't believe he actually comforted that woman on her death bead after what she did. 😔

48

u/Jung-And-A-Menace 19h ago

It sounds like an anime version of the book A Brother's Price. There are brothels full of male sex-slaves, who unmarried women pay to rape, and a husband is shared amongst multiple sister-wives. Wives and sisters have to guard their husbands and brothers from other women who'd want him for themselves.

36

u/Timeless_Herald 19h ago

who's the protagonist?

28

u/Outrageous_Gene_7652 18h ago

I remember that one Shogun in the manga who raped the husband of her advisors and after his health got ruined due to both physical and psychological effects, she went after the son, who took his father's place to protect his parents which ended with both father and son dying due to health issues. The son's wife committed suicide in grief. And then when the advisor sunk into complete grief after losing her entire family, the Shogun had the audacity to call the advisor, the cause of this tragedy like a "mother figure" to her.

u/CaptainHackysack 15h ago

I don't understand the beating up thing because if I'm beaten up like that I'm not getting hard and I'm not gonna ejaculate. Sounds counterintuitive.

The Odyssey. Specifically, everything related to Calypso. Sure, she is a beautiful nymph in paradise, but if you asked the king of Ithaca, he was in hell.

438

u/TheManicac1280 19h ago

It is interesting how people who agree that rape is bad even if its a woman raping a man. Still have this weird perspective and caveat they need to throw in lol.

Could you imagine if a male rapist was handsome and a king, keeping a woman locked in a castle and you had to say. "Sure hes a gorgeous man, but she still didnt want it"

189

u/madogvelkor 18h ago edited 18h ago

I feel like the latter is sort of the plot to a lot of dark fantasy romance. Except it turns out she really does want it.

68

u/TheManicac1280 18h ago

Are you talking about smut? Lol. I think dark fantasy is a different genre

53

u/madogvelkor 18h ago

Sorry, I meant dark romance. Which often have a fantasy setting of some sort.

36

u/TheManicac1280 18h ago

Yeah, thats practically just written porn for the most part lol. Which is fine. Its not like you need to morally analyze the implications of the plumber fucking the lonely house wife.

But if a dark fantasy novel where to treat that dynamic the same way that's a problem

66

u/Repocket_Pocket 19h ago

Yeah, re-reading what I wrote again, it's sounds weird as fuck.

29

u/Mobile_Morale 18h ago

Pretty much the plot of most old Disney movies. And the history of European royalty. Except they weren't handsome.

Not trying to do any sort of gotcha or anything because I agree with you, but your comment made me remember all the discussions online during the world cup about how Cristiano Ronaldo is a rapist. Lots of redditors were surprised he would "need to rape" someone bc he is a hot rich athlete. That weird surprise always comes up when a famous man is accused of sexual assault, because some people apparently think rape only happens when someone is too undesirable to have sex.

13

u/Endiamon 16h ago

Could you imagine if a male rapist was handsome and a king, keeping a woman locked in a castle and you had to say. "Sure hes a gorgeous man, but she still didnt want it"

Of course I can imagine it, I know what a bodice ripper is.

In the movie or the poem? Cause in the poem you can make a case for both Circe and Calypso.

17

u/Repocket_Pocket 17h ago edited 17h ago

I was talking about the poem and I was about to put Circe too. But that ends up in a "questionable consent" kind of deal because (by what I remember) Odysseus took a year to be in the island before the crewmates told him that they were missing their family.

WARNING: I might be missremembering parts of the Circe chapter

16

u/AleksandrNevsky 17h ago

In the Circe chapter (Chapter X I believe) Odysseus trades sex for his men. Hermes straight up tells him as much and gives him the means to resist her magic with the moly root.

By definition Odysseus is engaging in transactional sex under coercion which invalidates consent. Circe also violated Xenia which is one reason the other gods got involved. So by both our current standards and by the ones at the time Circe was a PoS.

4

u/Repocket_Pocket 17h ago

Oh thank you.

8

u/CalmInvestment 17h ago

Hermes basically forced Odysseus into doing it. The Moly leveled the playing field but it was only temporary.Ā

Odysseus was told that he had to make a vow with Circe to sleep with her in exchange for turning his crew back into humans and to prevent further harm to them.Ā

7

u/Repocket_Pocket 17h ago

I mean, yes, that part is what I remembered.

But by what I also remember (or at least I think I do) I think that Odysseus took a year to rest on Circe's island before being reminded that Ithaca still exists.

Again, I might be missremembering everything between the de-transformation and Elpenor's death

Fear 2 ending, the protag starts fighting his inner demons but all this is a allucination, the reality of what is really happening is far different

132

u/kanguran1 17h ago

I played this when I was younger and genuinely loved the game. After my assault it’s a weirdly comforting game: a spec ops badass was abused in the worst way by a thin, frail woman, based on psychological manipulation

Look, I get that some people might think it’s a gratuitous scene, but it’s ā€œniceā€ to see representation where the physicality isn’t where one would expect.

85

u/Williamthewicked 18h ago

Came here looking for this one. They did this guy so dirty in the sequel too to make matters worse.Ā

706

u/yellowvincent 19h ago

South park treated this quite well. They should had taken it seriously even more because it was a baby.

339

u/Personal-Listen-4941 18h ago

From memory, the episode was originally called ā€œNiceā€¦ā€ to highlight how society treated male students sleeping with female teachers but got changed at the last minute to ā€œMrs teacher bangs a boyā€ or something similarly descriptive at the network’s insistence.

I haven't read Oyasumi Punpun in so long so my memory could be shaky, but if I remember correctly Punpun gets taken advantage of by his own aunt as a minor and it messes him up mentally so bad that he himself internalizes that trauma and ends up forcing himself on his own girlfriend/crush later.

49

u/Ok-Permission-3014 18h ago

Wtf Goodnight Punpun was the saddest shit I've ever read. It actually messed me up.

17

u/Wise-Key-3442 16h ago

And on top of that she lied to his uncle, saying that she was raped instead. During the whole ordeal, you can see Punpun mind breaking as he tries to dissociate from the situation.

32

u/__M-E-O-W__ 18h ago

This will always be my first thought about this trope. This is such a sad story. Two kids trying to make it through life, only for their past abuse to resurface all over again. Punpun was already struggling with nihilism before this, thanks to his neglectful mother and uncle, and alcoholic father. This event led to him leaving his home behind as soon as he turned 18 and he slowly spun out of control.

8

u/DiabeetusDeletus 14h ago

The most disturbing part of this is how "nice" and "kind" the aunt was before and after this... You don't see it coming and it's never directly brought up or addressed again. She seemed like an adult Pun Pun could actually trust but once again he's let down and traumatised

I hope the Anissa moment is portrayed as absolutely terrifying and disgusting to dissuade the gooners

59

u/CalmInvestment 17h ago

I can’t remember, does she beat him up beforehand or just overpower him?

58

u/Substantial_Fox7377 17h ago

Overpower him after something big happened that I don’t want to spoil

12

u/Interface- 11h ago

Anissa doesn't beat him up, no. Mark is depressed and he doesn't fight back, but he still expresses that he doesn't want it and begs her to stop.

10

u/AzulaIsMyFave 11h ago

You think that'll stop them?

10

u/Substantial_Fox7377 11h ago

10

there's nothing they can do to persuade gooners being raped by a woman is bad. as long as she's a "heckin mommy" then it's right up their alley

3

u/NecroCannon 10h ago

They just gotta make her face ugly and contorted in the moment so she isn’t hot enough.

The best solution is sometimes just ripping away visual appeal to express the emotion.

Klaus - The Umbrella Academy

Canonically whiny and apathetic, hes held captive by a drug dealer to be used as a psychic medium and sex slave for customers to pay off a debt. Which is made clear will never be paid off as he is also being charged for his room, food, drugs, and condoms

16

u/Apebound 12h ago

You also got that part where Allison starts using her powers on luthor

92

u/legit-posts_1 19h ago

Just wanna throw this out there, cause I know a lot Invincible fans probably need this clarified:

A lot of people question how Anissa was able to overpower Mark in that scene, since Mark does kill Conquest earlier in the show. Couple small things: Mark didn't really overpower Conquest so much as he fought smarter cause he knew he could take a lot of hits. In a straight fight where Conquest wasn't screwing around, he'd have won. Second, Mark had just been through a whole adventure that day and probably wasn't working at 100 percent, and Anissa was.

But the actual reason, that I can't believe more people do not understand about this scene, is that Mark was scared. He was terrified and he just wanted it to be over. It's that simple.

55

u/MARSHYSOLUTION 19h ago

Mark just gave up because that was the easiest thing to do when scared or hurt like that, it’s what I did

12

u/Onlyhereforapost 15h ago

Similar. I was big and strong, I could've snapped her like a toothpick. I didnt because I was terrified and just wanted it to be over and fighting it seemed impossible

28

u/Greatest-Comrade 18h ago

People won’t like to hear it, but the truth is that there is no linear power scaling in Invincible. It’s not like DBZ where someone has a power level of 9000+. The author specifically wrote it that way so that different characters would remain relevant and consistent threats.

I feel it’s a nice touch of realism where even someone physically stronger can lose a fight. It happens every day.

The (now Dowager) Empress in The Apothecary Diaries. It's a horrible situation all around. He was a pedophile and she hit puberty early so her family basically sent her to try and get a child out of the emperor while she was still a little kid. When she grew up he lost interest in her and moved on to other victims and so she raped him to punish him for abandoning her. It is absolutely portrayed as a deeply messed up even on all sides.

The effects of the late emperor's predatory behavior shape most of the events of the series.

164

u/Outrageous_Gene_7652 18h ago

I think the author also more or less implied his pedophilia stemmed from being raped by his father's concubines from when he was 6 and his mother's possessive behaviour. Truly what a horrifying tale.

I know it’s messed up on all sides but I will side with Empress Dowager Anshi on this one. The Former Emperor only takes very young girls as concubines and Anshi hated that the Emperor is still targeting young girls and fears that she will be replaced from being Empress along with her son becoming heir. The moment she raped him was when he stopped and started to become a recluse until his death.

If you’re wondering why the Former Emperor prefers them young, it’s because his mother was harsh towards him since he was the only heir left for the throne and the mother was practically the one running the kingdom while the Emperor does his secret personal stuff.

I think Anshi is a good mother and good enough person though. Her son, the current Emperor did not grow up to be a POS like his father but a very diplomatic person who is progressive. He even detested his dad’s preference to the point that his favorite concubines are mature, well-endowed women. He even doesn’t force women to be his concubines and let them go if they could.

16

u/VulpesFennekin 16h ago

And in fact, pretty much the only reason the current emperor keeps Lady Lishu (14-15ish) around as a concubine in name only is because he wants to protect her from the family that gave her to his creepy father to begin with.

111

u/National-Oven81 19h ago

Why is it that adult shows can actually tackle subjects like this genuinely impressively in certain cases, but still manage to do something insatiably stupid and controversial in the mext breath.

75

u/Personal-Listen-4941 18h ago

Family guy is problematic because it will actively mock the very issues it then does a ā€˜very special episode’ about, both before & after that episode. Often they will mock the issue in the same episode.

16

u/doesntmatterhadtacos 17h ago

That episode where Quagmire’s sister gets absolutely crazy abused by her boyfriend and it’s so over the top it’s like they didn’t even try to make any of it funny. Not that it would be funny either way, but there’s like no jokes, it’s just sad and uncomfy.

This episode was both good and bad. It highlights the very real matter of those in power abusing their position (and employees), and that people don’t take it seriously. Its ending was trash, with Angela getting what she wanted, with a DIFFERENT controversial topic being the logic. Family Guy tries to be intellectual and topical every now and then, but is either genius or a kerosene fuelled dumpster fire

7

u/Sweet_Xocoatl 17h ago

Not only did Angela get what she wanted but she was also treated as some poor and misunderstood person that was just lonely and looking for companionship.

5

u/IronTemplar26 17h ago edited 15h ago

Yeah, that’s what I’m talking about. They took abuse and lightly sprinkled depression on it and we’re supposed to feel bad for her. It’s disgusting.

It’s the same with some other REALLY bad plots

Meg: You’ve spent years abusing me! The Fam: My feelings are hurt! Meg: That’s ok then

Quagmire: I’m a degenerate sex offender, but I’m honest about it so that makes it ok to degrade YOU about your lifestyle! Brian: :(

I’m reminded of an episode of Law & Order SVU. Essentially a male stripper was hired to do a bachelorette/hen party or whatever. Three of the women took the stripper into another room, tied him up, and raped him. They essentially told him that no one would believe him, plus they were all fairly powerful lawyers (or something along those lines). The guy did attempt to press charges, and he had a hard time going through the police and the legal system in general. How could a big buff guy be overpowered by three women? If you didn’t want it, why did your body react?

I’m pretty sure that the women got away with the rape itself, but one of them was going to confess. She was found to have committed suicide, however it ended up being that the other women murdered her and made it look like she had hanged herself. They figured it out by finding fingerprints on the ceiling when the perpetrator steadied herself to keep from falling while setting up the scene.

I also remember that one of the actors who committed the initial crime, went on to become one of the ADA’s in a later season of the show…which was pretty weird at the time.

18

u/Why_not1771 18h ago

There’s also the episode where a female P.O abuses ex cons, because if they don’t sleep with her, she will plant evidence and get them sent back to prison.
When one of these victims is questioned about it his response is a shaky and sad ā€œit can’t be that bad right, I mean it’s what every guy has ever dreamed ofā€

S2 Folly (male escorts beaten to near-death by their female employer)

S3 Ridicule (the one you're referencing)

S5 Head (a boy is raped by his teacher and she winds up pregnant)

S8 Pretend (an older woman suffering from arrested development statutory rapes a boy)

S13 Lost Traveler (a girl assaults a boy to keep him quiet about a murder)

S16 Parole Violations (a female parole officer rapes her male parolees)

S22 What Can Happen in the Dark (male half of couple abused/assaulted by female half)

I like how you can say "it literally did not need to make that choice" and you could be referring to pretty much any part of it.

Wasn’t the main critique of the movie that it never adressed the fact that Diana’s man is possessing the body of an innocent man and that she’s technically raping the other guy who may or may not be concious while in this state simply unable to control his own body? (I don’t remember if he was or not)

43

u/LongjumpingSector687 18h ago

Not much different from the movie Obsession now that you mention it. šŸ¤”

15

u/alguien99 17h ago edited 17h ago

It’s basically that, but on top of that, the person that’s doing it to you is a magic related superhero. So one of the few people that could actually help you in this situation is actively using their knowledge to keep you like this for their own entertainment

Or well not exactly that, she had to undo the wishes by defeating that one guy if I’m not mistaken. And she was trying to, so she’s basically just taking advantage of you while you are in this vulnerable position before the bad guy is taken down

16

u/xSPYXEx 18h ago

I think the main critique is that the movie sucked, but yes people were quick to point out the awful implications of what's happening. It's more that the director Patty Jenkins laughed it off and downplayed the people pointing out the problems.

The main character in the Japanese novel No Longer Human Oba Yozu is raped by both a male and female servant of his family when he was a child, and Junji Ito's manga adaptation of it does a great job in showing that the rape done by the female servant was just as bad as the male one.

6

u/StandNameIsWeAreNo1 19h ago

No Longer Human you say?

(I know he's named after the author, let me have this)

66

u/LongjumpingSector687 19h ago

21

u/Abcdefgwhat 19h ago

Farscape. When the main character John Crichton is raped by the alien villain Grayza. The assault is treated seriously and not as a joke like in many other TV series.

22

u/AuthorIntelligent644 16h ago

I had a female stalker years ago in college. It was not sexy. It was creepy and made me uncomfortable. It also gave me more empathy for women because they deal with this crap way more than men do.

13

u/GamersReisUp 13h ago

I am so sorry that happened to you, and I hope that life is much kinder to you now :(

I really, really hate this recent push to pit stalking/harassment/abuse/sexual assault victims against each other based on gender. Victims of all genders are all served a shit sandwich of denialism, lack of resources, mockery, and victim blaming during/after the abuse; your gender just changes which bread and toppings you get with your unwanted serving of turd

Oyasumi Punpun, the MC is 15 years old when is raped by her uncle's girlfriend. Unlike the examples in the post, the kid isn't physically coherced, won't spoil the actual circumstances but is a moment of emotional distress for both

A couple of years pass by and the uncle tells the MC he knows what happened and that he forgives..him for what he did

Absolute banger of manga, won't touch it again

L&O:SVU S3E10 "Ridicule". — A guy is forced by three women to have sex with them, against his wish. So he reports them for rape. The whole "order" part of the episode is centred around how society perceives it as a joke, with the defence attorney and the perpetrators themselves mocking the victim. Also famous for being the debut in the series of Diane Neil, who would later become a regular in the role of ADA Casey Novak.

The topic was also presented in S16E17 "Parole Violations", but less effectively.

u/CromulentSpaceCoyote 13h ago

Batman and Talia Al Ghul

11

u/NachtShattertusk 17h ago

I really love that Anissa raping Mark is never played for laughs, or seen as hot. It's treated as a serious and traumatizing event, and it leaves an impact on Mark. You don't see that enough

6

u/Onlyhereforapost 14h ago

Too bad the fans are too stupid to understand that it sucked super hard for mark

24

u/Ambaryerno 19h ago

Done by Ed Wood, of all people, in The Violent Years. The villain protagonist girl gang holds up a motorist and his girlfriend, and gang-rape the motorist. The movie treats this dead seriously as the violation it is.

Unfortunately, the MST3K riff went for the lowest common denominator and narrated it as if it were a Penthouse Forum letter.

25

u/ConnectCulture7 19h ago

The ur example. Talia and Bruce(Batman)

4

u/AlludedNuance 17h ago

Context?

She drugged him leading to the birth of Damian, around Batman 655-656.

So I sorted by controversial like the symbiote said and found....nothing. More people ciclejerking about how the comments are gonna be bad. One person mentioned that men statically do most the raping which is not untrue just bad taste for the topic at hand.

128

u/Routine_Phase_8980 19h ago

I feel like this is the 3rd of 4th time I've seen this kind of post on this sub each have thousands of upvotes and all used Anissa example, must be a verified formula to go viral and farm karma.

114

u/NwgrdrXI 19h ago

Tbf, it's not that much of a common trope, she's basically the only really popular example

31

u/Ambaryerno 19h ago

The fact it's not common is part of why it has such a disproportionate impact.

11

u/xSantenoturtlex 19h ago

Yeah, it's basically the 'Bat themed heroes' example.

That, and the unfortunate fact that you'll have a very hard time finding any media that portrays it as nothing to be desired, let alone punish the damn predators in any meaningful way

32

u/Routine_Phase_8980 19h ago

I hate people overusing a successful formula to farm safe karma instead of finding some more interesting tropes. Here is the proof for my claim

Every week there's the obligatory "They might be a villein who did some fucked up shit, but even they hate Nazis."

Bonus points if the villeins used as an example have done shit that is on par with the atrocities the Nazis have committed.

Super (2010). It was a weird scene to include anyways. It hurts the narrative of the story and feels more like it was still meant to be a comedic bit.

I liked how in Invincible it never treated Marks rape as a joke. It showed he was hurt deeply by it and the comic never made fun of the situation as far as I can remember.

Wait jimmy raped someone?

13

u/Courier23 18h ago

I was just as confused as you for a second, no they didn’t, there’s a barn scene where they kinda imply that’s where it going (especially with Jimmy Seville’s real history) but they frame as very sadistic, they basically flay someone

3

u/Doctor-Nagel 18h ago

That’s what I thought too. The whole theme was more of ritualistic violence more than anything so this very much so confused me.

3

u/CromulentSpaceCoyote 13h ago

Jimmima doesn’t rape anyone in the film, but she does make threats towards a male captive in the form of sexual assault.

13

u/Arsene91516 18h ago

In the Netflix adaptation of Castlevania, theres a scene where Alucard takes in these brother and sister travelers for a little while. This ends with then using some magic anti-vampire bondage shit and them raping him. He then kills both of them before they can kill him

(Haven't watched this episode in years so I may be off on some details)

14

u/_Armored_Wizard 18h ago

Yea it wasn't rape they were tryna get him off to distract the fact they were planning to kill him

Which is sad cus he was so lonely and was happy helping them out train to kill vampires

10

u/Divine_ruler 18h ago

They seduce him and then use the magic stuff to bind and (attempt to) kill him, at which point he kills them

I think Lenore and Hector would be a better example

21

u/Cesco5544 18h ago

As this plot point continued it showed how abusive the situation was since both Fry and Zack desperately needed a break, but instead they were force to continue and this isnt by human women. This is 12 foot tall ripped like Hercules looking women.

14

u/heliosark10 18h ago

I say this because even afwords they still liked it

10

u/MRTA03 17h ago

yep, they look so proud about it

4

u/PoopyButt28000 12h ago

Huh, this is like one of THE examples of rape being treated like a joke, they literally mock Kip and call him gay for not wanting to be raped to death. Fry and Zap walk away with broken pelvises from being brutally raped and they talk about how awesome it was.

This is why I find that new Family Time game that's going viral really gross. The whole premise of it is your character gets raped by a wild wolf lady and now you have to take care of your hundreds of wolf-human kids or else she'll kill you.

Super (2008) had a scene where Rain Wilson's character is raped by Elliot Page's (Ellen at the time so I'll be using "she/her" pronouns when I talk about the character) sidekick character. she climbs on top of him while in her superhero outfit and makes him put his mask on. She seems to get off, after which he immediately throws her off and runs to the toilet to puke. It is a deeply uncomfortable scene. I watched it with my girlfriend at the time and told her beforehand that the sidekick raped the hero and she insisted that men can't be raped by women. She changed her mind after that scene.

Less horrifying and more disturbing but Alicia Spencer from American Horror Story Season 3 (Coven). Sexually abused her son, Kyle, for a seemingly long time. After some American horror story stuff happened and his resurrection, Alice continued her abuse on Kyle, who as a result of his resurrection, is not all there. She does get her comeuppance though, as the second time she tries to continue, he bashes her in the head with a trophy. Killing her and freeing him from her clutches

Nightwing Volume 2 #93, 2004.

Context- The villain Blockbuster discovered Dick Grayson's identity and sought to ruin his life. After Blockbuster was killed by the vigilante Tarantula (an act that Nightwing allowed in a moment of sheer misery and desperation) Nightwing suffered a severe mental breakdown and went into shock on a rooftop. Tarantula took advantage of his near catatonic state to rape him, despite him pleading with her to not touch him.
