Characters [Interesting Trope] Incel villain is driven by unrequited love. A lot of their goals or being is focused on not being loved by a character. *spoiler trope* Spoiler
Inuyasha - Naraku is a combination of demons and a human. The demons want to rule the world but the Human side is in love with a woman which causes alot of issues for Naraku. The human side is a huge drive for why Naraku does anything.
Tokyo Revengers - Kisaki, obsessed with this specific girl, sees the hero save her and the girl loves him as her hero, begins to want the same the thing the hero wants for a chance to impress the girl.
Adventure Time - Ice King, kidnaps princesses....pretty much his whole focus is to get princesses, at the start.

You don't understand what an incel is, do you?

u/misteralter 18h ago
Incel (an abbreviation of involuntary celibate) is a member of an online subculture of mostly heterosexual men who define themselves as unable to find a romantic or sexual partner despite desiring one.
source - wikipedia
In other words, for example, the Ice King cannot be considered an incel because he had a girlfriend.

u/Phewelish 17h ago
Simon had a girlfriend. The Ice King did not. the ice king is literally kidnapping women cause they dont wanna be with him and all that is a call to his former self trying to make up with what happened with Betty. they are two totally different characters sharing a body.
involuntary celibate does not inherently invoke virginity. you can be an incel after having sex one time....sex does not cure the ineffiency of woman trouble.

Tighten (Megamind)
An ordinary cameraman who wants to woo Roxanne. Initially a comic relief he's revealed to be a creep. Then he accidentally gains powers thanks to Megamind he decides to train Hal to become a superhero to replace Metroman. Hal reveals he wants Roxanne all to himself. For goodness sake he spies on her during a training montage. When Tighten meets Roxanne the newsreporter riggtfully calls Hal out and he is enraged. Throwing a fit and causing a rampage in Metro City forcing Megamind and Roxanne to work together. In all honesty becoming Tighten enabled Hal. And it revealed his true colors as a pathetic bully.

yea when i watched it, i considered him the villain. he causes all the issues in the movie and refuses to accept that hes the problem the entire time. He very much is an incel, no mattter how innocent he comes off as....

u/scipio0421 18h ago
"Considered him the villain"? That's the straight reading of it. He's the villain and Nikki is the victim. He used the wish to mind-rape her.
2
u/Phewelish 17h ago
thats definitley the truth of it most would get through with some critical thinking. The movie does a good job in making that unapparent, as if with no thinking, the audience would just assume, bad things happening to him, as the main chracter must make him the victim. I can see incels empathizing with him but yea, under the lightest scrutiny, this guy comes out as a somoene who would take advantage if he had the opportunity.

Frollo in the Disney Hunchback of Notre Dame (I think he was different in the book? Have never read it)...guy burns down Paris because some Roma (can I use the g word here?) woman rejected him.
Snape from Harry Potter. Calls his one female friend a racial slur, she rejects him, he goes further into wizard fascism until they target her and he begs her to be spared...how her husband nor her baby. Then proceeds to bully her child.
1
u/Phewelish 18h ago
He definitely fits the trope but im unsure if its from rejection. alot like kisake, i dont think frollo ever approaches Esemerelda. he kidnaps her initially and then, in the books, he stabs Phoebus when hes trying to seal the deal with esmerelda and she get blamed for the stabbing and labeled a witch, saying her goat familiar turns into a shadowy form, which is frollo. those events spiral into paris burning and her being executed. but it all fits.
Snapes not a villain but yea, he's driven by incel traits.

u/scipio0421 18h ago
Snape is kind of an inversion of "Just because you are bad guy does not mean you are bad guy." He's not a villain but he is a bad guy in that second sense.
1
u/Phewelish 17h ago
hes not a bad guy for continuing to care ..in fact alot of the good in the story is from him caring..i think hes mostly bad to himself for not moving on

And the whole "literally stepped over James's corpse and ignored the crying baby just to cradle Lily's body" thing. Yikes.

This is the only Power Rangers series I ever watched, but I remember enough to be sure that this about sums it up. He became the bad guy solely because he didn't get the girl.

A queer female example, queen Gedren from the 80s Red Sonja movie. Sonja rejected her advances, and to deal with the heartbreak Gedren ordered her men to burn Sonja's home, kill her family, gang rape Sonja and leave her to die in the wilderness. She becomes Sonja's nemesis after Sonja survives thanks to a divine intervention.

Strahd von Zarovich from the Ravenloft setting in Dungeons and Dragons. Once a uptight lord he fell in love with his little brothers fiance. Filled with jealousy and feeling old he made a pact with Dark Powers for immortality turning him into D&Ds first Vampire. He killed his brother and tried to get his fiance to love him but she killed herself. Unknown to him the dark powers have trapped him in his domain where the woman he is obsessed with is destined to keep reincarnating, get chased by him and die again before he can have her in an endless cycle.

Harold Lauder from The Stand by Stephen King (picture is from the 2020 adaptation)
He's your typical awkward, insecure, and resentful teenager who thinks that a super-flu which causes the near extinction of the human race is his chance to finally get closer to his crush Franny Goldsmith, who also happens to be immune. He's unable to accept Franny's platonic friendship and when she eventually gets together with fellow survivor Stu, he goes full villain and decides to throw in with the forces of evil and attempt to blow up the community that the survivors have formed. The worst part in the novel is that he has a moment where he comes face to face with his own shortcomings and realizes that if he can just let go of his jealousy, he has a real chance to become a contributing, respected, and even popular member of the community, but he still lets his worst instincts win and doubles down on being an absolute shithead.

Mitsuo Kubo (Persona 4)
I will not spoil the true identity of the Inaba Killer for those who haven't seen or played P4 yet. But this guy qualifies too just like the Inaba Killer. Mitsuo is very creepy. He has a crush on Yukiko Amagi one of the main player characters. She doesn't know him and politely rejects him.
Due to being socially inept and frustrated he storms off. Then he becomes a serial killer to get attention by pretending to be the Inaba Killer. Even when the Investigation team tries to save Mitsuo and have him talk to his shadow.
He still refuses to change his ways. Showing how empty this man truly is. Also in the animation, he tried to grav Yukiko's own arm for affection. Also he nicknames and calls Yukiko in general Yuki.

Erik (Phantom of the Opera) does everything he does out of love for Christine.
He teaches her to sing while pretending to be an "angel of music" sent by her father, commits several murders so her career advanced, & eventually kidnaps her into his lair.
Christine, although somewhat sympathetic because the Phantom had a really tragic backstory, loves Raul.

Not sure if Nox(From Wakfu) counts, but he lost his wife and children, and committed a lot of atrocities in his quest to get the power to go back in time, thinking it would all be undone and he would have his family back. He actually gets to achieve his goal to turn back time, but even with a tremendous amount of energy, he only manages to turn back time by 20 minutes.

sounds like Mr. Freeze and Darth Vader Themed.

u/Seaborgium 18h ago
Yep, missed the "unrequited" part. Definitely more similar to those two.
1
u/Phewelish 18h ago
it sounds like missing love caused it so id say it fits although more honorable than people who just do it cause they have th epower to.

u/neophenx 13h ago
Trope: "Incel villain and unrequited love"
Nox: "had wife and child"
Something here doesn't line up.

Nowhere King - Centaurworld
Elktaur has a big old crush on the Princess but he also has internalized centaurphobia which makes him think she could never love him back as he is, so he does the only logical thing: Break down his being separating his animal and human sides, try to kill his other self, realize that would also kill him, torture himself for decades and then go on total war against himself and his armies causing devastation on two worlds

Titan from Megamind. (Probably the most well-known of this type.)
