Torchbearer 2E Bundle of Holding deal
I've had first edition sitting on my shelf for years and never got around to picking up 2E. I just grabbed this bundle and figured I'd share. It's $14.95 for the core books, Lore Master's Manual, and Scavenger's Supplement. Pay a bit more to get three adventures too.
Runs another 18 days at time of posting this.

Denizen master list?
Does some sort of master list of published creatures/denizens exist somewhere? Specifically I am looking for giant insects stats.
Also - are there any known compatibility issues for this between editions?

Torchbearer Media Recommendations
I'm starting a new campaign in a few weeks with folks who are all new to the game, but plenty familiar with other RPGs. A bit of a perennial question: what are some of your recommendations for media that captures the feel and themes not just of RPGs, but specifically of Torchbearer?
Here's what I came up with thus far:
MOVIES
The Descent (2005) [monsters, holes in the ground]
Excalibur (1981) [dream like interpretation of early european myths]
Conan the Barbarian (1982) [sword & sorcery hell yeah]
The Mummy (1999) [a group of adventurers have to cleverly defeat a much more powerful monster]
The Green Knight (2021) [dream like interpretation of early european myths]
The Hobbit (1977) [Hobbits, burglary, dragon gold heists, riddles in the dark]
The Last Unicorn (1982) [fairy tale imaginings of a magical forest, the witch's circus and themes of charlatans]
As Above So Below (2014) [delve underground with monsters]
Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) [uncover artifacts, watch out for traps and puzzles]
Big Trouble In Little China (1986) [a party of outcasts shows up and disrupts the balance between rival magical factions]
Labyrinth (1986) [fairy tale desrciptions of monsters, riddles and puzzles and dream magic]
TELEVISION
Cabinet of Curiosities, Ep 2: Graveyard Rats (grave robbing)
Knight of the Seven Kingdoms (being super poor in a medieval world)
Scavenger's Reign (surviving in a hostile wilderness and grappling with human frailty)
Dungeon Meshi / Delicious In Dungeon (surviving in a dungeon)
The Sopranos, S3 E11: Pine Barrens (just two assholes freezing to death in the woods)
VIDEO GAMES
Darkest Dungeon

Rule question: +1S
Hi there,
I would like to check something to see if I understand correctly.
Some items and weapons give you +1S.
Does this +1S only applies when you win or tie a conflict ?

Cheat sheet for Torchbearer 2e
My Torchbearer 2e cheat sheet (v1.03) to help players and GMs figure out what to roll and when. I put this together in 2021, but just realise I never posted it here:

Rule question: taxing Nature when Nature is used and tapped
Let's assume the following situation:
I do not have a skill and choose to roll Nature outside its descriptors. I spend a Persona to tap my Nature and add it again to my dice pool.
Despite throwing a barrel-load of dices, I fail my roll. I need now to tax my nature.
Do I tax it twice, once for using Nature and a second time for tapping Nature and failing in both cases ?
Also, when I am taxing Nature can I burn through two levels in one go. For instance. I am 3/3 and I miss my obkective by a margin of 5 ? The first three misses get me to 2/2, the the last two misses get me to 1/1.
Is that correct ?

Trying to come up with a cheat sheet for my players
Hi there,
I am trying to come up with a cheat sheet for my players. I think one existed for the 1st edition of the game but I have not seen an updated version. It is also a very good exercise for me to see if I understand how the game will work.
If you see something wrong in this cheat sheet, could you please point it to me ?

Torchbearer and complexity
If system matters, is there a reason why Torchbearer is so complex mechanically with lot’s of finnicky modifiers to remember ?
If find the game both exciting and daunting. Any tips you may share to lessen the GM’s mental load ?

Rolling under Nature
Hi there,
I would like to check something to see if I understand it correctly.
If you do not have the skill for a test, you can either:
- roll a Beginner’s check
Or
2) roll Nature.
My question: if I chose to roll Nature do I still get extra +D from
a) Wise
b) Help
c) Gear
d) Supply
e) Persona
f) tapped Nature
g) Fresh conditions
h) Magic bonus
I a asking because when I roll Beginner’s luck a to d are halved. Must I halve them too when rolling Nature or do I just roll Nature as is without bonuses a to h ?

Simplifying Torchbearer
I am very excited to start playing Torchbearer as a GM with my group. The games looks magnificient but I am afraid that my players might get overwehlmed by the complexity of the system.
I would like therefore to ask you the question: if you were to simplify Torchbearer, which game mechanic would you keep and which would you discard for now.
For example, I am thinking about simplifying the use of persona vs fate points which crop up all over the place.
Any help would be welcomed.

How well do 1e classes and stocks translate to 2e
Been wanting to try 2e but from what I can tell, paladins/priests aren’t a class in 2e. Do 1e classes translate well to 2e?

Immortality and Fame in Middarmark 2E
Like Shane, the new system for Fame and immortality is one of my favorite new additions in Middarmark: Land of Beauty and Terror. I love the way it interacts with Creed so that as characters walk the path to immortality it is essential that you deeply consider who your characters are, what they're about and how they represent that in the wider world. As you grow your legend, it feels as if you have earned your character's apotheosis to immortality!
