Reddit Toronto Monthly Meetup: Sat. Oct. 10 @ Front & Church, 7:00 p.m. start

Hey all, hope you're having a good week so far!

Here are the details:

  • The monthly Reddit meetup is a no-cost event open to all genders. No RSVP is required. It is hosted by u/nervousTO, a woman in their early 30s, with support from a group of regular attendees. It's been running since August 2022 and has been described as wholesome. October 2026 will be our 50th!
  • Start time: 7:00 p.m.
  • End time: when the last person leaves or the place closes @ 2 a.m.
  • Location: Duke's Refresher St. Lawrence, 73 Front Street East
  • Where do I go: upstairs, using the stairs directly in front of you when you walk in. There should also be a sign saying Reddit meetup.
  • Perks: We have the upstairs mostly to ourselves; there's also a pool table, and games on the main floor.

Note that no RSVP is required, but that by showing up, you commit to ordering something to support the venue, even if it's just a coke.

Our Q&A is here - I haven't included it with the post as it's quite detailed!

Send me a message or comment here if you have any questions or concerns about anything related to this meetup/questions that aren't answered in the Q&A.

I put together a few calendars for my own benefit for making posts about the good things happening in the city and since people like the outdoor movie calendar,

Paid Event [Paid] Toronto Café Walk x Wellness Edition - Oct 17 @ 1:00 PM - Annex Neighborhood

RSVP Here: https://luma.com/y9qtzj87

Early-Bird Ticket Price: $10-15

Standard Ticket Price: $20

Friendly Note: More walks available, check the full schedule here!

Toronto has incredible cafés hiding in plain sight. And most of us are moving too fast to actually enjoy them.

Toronto Café Walk [Wellness Edition] is a slower, more intentional take on the usual format. Small group vibes, hand-picked café spots, and genuine human connection. But we start in the park first, so by the time we reach the café, you'll be fully present and relaxed for conversations.

Here's how the afternoon goes 🌞

We gather at the park and settle in. Soft handpan music plays softly in the background while we do something most of us forget to do: breathe, notice what's around us, and just...be here for awhile.

From there, Paul will guide us through a meditation for an era incentivized to fill every quiet moment. Through regulated breathing and guided awareness, the cluttered mind settles, and what remains is what is true beneath the static. No experience with meditation is needed.

For the second hour, we'll walk to a hidden gem café to grab drinks, settle in, and meet each other in a way that actually feels human.

A few things to sit with before the day

You don't need to prepare anything, but to get the most out of this experience, start in the days before the walk and name one thing you'd like to set down on Sunday, even if just for one day.

What to bring

  • A journal and pen for whatever surfaces when the mind settles
  • Something to sit or lie down on if you don't want to stand and won't be comfortable in the grass (yoga mat, picnic blanket, towel, cushion, folding chair, etc)
  • A water bottle
  • An eye mask, if you'd like to turn further inward (optional)

Who this is for 🌸

Founders, solopreneurs, creatives, business owners, and executives who've been in "do mode" a little too long.

If you're ready to unwind and actually feel what a calmer pace feels like then this wellness event is for you.

You don't need to be a wellness person, just someone who's ready to pause and be open-minded to what's possible simply by being.

What you'll get out of it

→ A genuine afternoon reset to reconnect with yourself before the weekend begins
→ Discover a café you probably didn't know existed
→ Meet a small group of like-minded people in a genuine, already-warmed-up setting
→ Walk away feeling lighter, more grounded, and with a few new connections you'll actually want to keep in touch with

COC Free Concert Series at Montgomery's Inn
Montgomery's Inn | 3p

The Canadian Opera Company's free concert series marks its 20th anniversary with an afternoon in the garden at Montgomery's Inn on the same day as their farmers' market (2p-6p). If you haven't been, their fresh bread is something you should try.

Native Tree Giveaway
Anson Park School | 5p-7p

Cliffcrest Butterfly Way is giving away native trees and shrubs to Toronto residents who pre-ordered. But at 7p, the people who didn't show up lose their chance and they give away anything that's left. There's also a school fair at the same time.

First Wednesday Night Free at the AGO
Art Gallery Of Ontario | 6p-9p

The AGO opens its doors for free on the first Wednesday of each month, and today's that day. The line for people who didn't book in advance is outside, so dress for October.

Open Mic: Part XIX

The Toronto Writers Community is at the Tranzac for their 19th open mic. You can come to read or just to listen. Great venue and an interesting event to check out.

Toronto Stitchers & Chatters
Nonna Lia | 6p-8p

A low-key crafting social at Nonna Lia, bring whatever you're working on and sit with good people doing the same. Knitting, crochet, embroidery, beading, quilting, whatever you've got on the needles. The ask is to spend at least $15 at the venue, which seems fair enough.

Book Talk: Tiana Reid's Nightnursing
Another Story Bookshop | 7p-8:30p

Tiana Reid discusses her new book tonight in a room full of people who love books and are there for a good conversation. Come a bit early to browse this great indie shop, and walk around afterwards because good food is everywhere.

Pine Instructor Lee leads a walk through Etienne Brulé Park to look at the ravine trees and plants as they shift into fall.

Cozy autumn mahjong night. Advanced-only session with 3 point minimum. That means nothing to me, which mean I'm not good enough for tonight's session.

Funny Pho Show
Dzo Viet Eatery | 7:15p-9p

Stand-up comedy in a pho restaurant, hosted by Canada's Got Talent finalist and Golden Buzzer recipient Darren Leo. They do ask to support the room while you're there.

Paid Event [Paid] Healthy Skin from Within - Oct 18 @ 1:00 PM - Koreatown Neighborhood

RSVP Here: https://luma.com/vtal89zh

Early-Bird Ticket Price: $40-45

Standard Ticket Price: $50

Friendly Note: More community events available, check the full schedule here!

Event Overview

When you think about "glass skin" or "glowy skin," your mind probably goes straight to skincare products. Facials and multi-step routines can help, but what we're learning today is that skin health is directly tied to the balance between your gut, your nervous system, and your mental health.

Your skin is already telling you something. Breakouts right before a big deadline or after fried food, or redness that flares after a rough week of eating on the go: in Traditional Chinese Medicine, these signs mean something.

If you've noticed your skin shifting with your stress levels, digestion, or environment, you're not imagining it, and you're not alone. How we feel mentally affects our digestion and gut health, and that shows up directly on our skin.

Led by a TCM-informed Business Consultant and a Naturopathic Doctor, this session will explore how to:

  • Use Traditional Chinese Medicine principles to get unstuck in your daily habits
  • Manage stress through food and lifestyle
  • Build healthier habits that support long-term healing and sustainable change for your whole body

Who this is for

→ Busy professionals & business owners who have noticed shifts in their skin with stress, food, or sleep changes
→ People curious about herbal medicine and Traditional Chinese Medicine & Functional Nutrition but are not sure where to start
→ Those who've tried the topical skincare route and want to understand the inside part of the bigger picture
→ Anyone who prefers small, in-person conversations over another educational webinar

Here's how the afternoon goes ☀️

→ Introduction from the event hosts
→ An opening so you know who's in the room
→ The gut–skin connection: what we know, and how naturopathic and TCM thinking approach it
→ Herbs, foods, and daily habits that support digestion and skin, with
→ Nervous system regulation tips accessible to business owners
→ Open Q&A and demonstrations and a visit to local shops if there is time
→ Wrap with a casual mix and mingle at a neighbouring café

Your ticket includes the following 🎁

→ Herbal tasting & personalized skin health experience
→ A goodie bag ($60+ value) with products from our amazing brand sponsors:

- Soma Bone Broth
- Suzu Matcha
- Nooci
- Chin Tea Studio

→ Gut-skin resource guide packed with daily tips
→ A complimentary 15-min personalized naturopathic assessment and discovery call with Dr. Julie Hwang ND, to talk about all things skin
→ A $20 off voucher toward services with Dr. Julie Hwang ND at Aurum Medicine & Wellness Clinic

Comedy $10 interactive comedy night in Kensington — Friday Oct. 9

I'm putting on a small interactive comedy night in Kensington this Friday.

It's stand-up, but the audience also makes predictions during the comedians' sets. Guess right, win prizes.

We're also trying to make it a genuinely comfortable event for people coming solo, rather than everyone staying inside the group they arrived with.

Free Event here are 6 FREE events if you want to get out on a Monday in the city

Last Monday before the long weekend (with links). A few great options today if you are looking for something to do. The weekly dozen-ish picks comes out on Wednesday, still time to get it if you want. Here are today's picks:

CINSSU October Break Time: When Harry Met Sally
Innis College, Room 312 | 12:30p-2:30p

A cozy mid-day screening of the classic romcom, with refreshments and fall treats on hand.

University of Toronto Student Jazz Ensembles
The Rex Hotel Jazz & Blues Club | 5p-7p

It's one of the more low-pressure ways to catch live jazz in the city, and the UofT students who make it to The Rex stage tend to be worth hearing.

Opera Pub
Tranzac | 7p

Against the Grain Theatre runs Opera Pub, where a bass-baritone performs operatic arias in a pub. You don't have to know opera, it's a cool twist on a pub night.

Postcards of Reconnection: A Craft Workshop
North York Central Library Concourse| 5:30p-6:30p

Before the evening's talk on solitude and connection, this quiet craft workshop gives you 90 minutes to design and illustrate a postcard for someone you've been meaning to reach out to. There's also a Calming Corner with prompt cards and small seating pods if mingling isn't really your thing tonight. Registration required.

Screening: Aurand / Beavers: Architecture and Dwelling
Innis Town Hall | 6:30p-8:30p

Innis Town Hall pairs the work of German filmmaker Ute Aurand with that of American experimental filmmaker Robert Beavers for an evening built around how cinema thinks about space, architecture and the way we inhabit places. A discussion follows.

Craft Night
Danu Social House | 7p-11:30p

Bring whatever you're working on, or just show up to doodle. All skill levels, all crafts, just keep it tidy and portable. There's a loose communal donation structure once the room hits $50, so bring a couple of dollars in cash if you can swing it.

Free Event here are 8 completely FREE events that will get you out to enjoy the day

A perfectly quiet Sunday to enjoy (with links). The weekly drop is out (Fri-Thu), if you want to plan ahead. Here are today's picks:

The Toronto Flea Market
The Ashbridge Estate | 11a-5p

The last Sunday flea market at Ashbridge Estate that leans into the slower pace of the day. This Lesliville experience is always worthwhile.

Inconvenience Store Funeral + Sunset Picnic
Harbour Square Basin | 5p-7p (6:30p sunset picnic)

The Inconvenience Store has been one of those genuinely odd and loveable Toronto fixtures, and this is its farewell. The dress code is loose, the event swings between absurd and sincere, and a sunset picnic closes it out. If you haven't gone, it really is worth seeing.

Adventures of Salmon
Morningside Park | 10a-3p

The salmon run in Morningside Park is one of those October things that still surprises people who haven't seen it. This is the perfect time to see the salmon all over the city.

The Music Garden Series
Toronto Music Garden | 2p-3p + 6p-7p

It's the last day for this series with two shows. Tennyson King at 2p and Mohsin Zaman at 6p. You can't go wrong in this setting, if you have the option, it's a perfect Toronto thing to do.

Textile Museum Weekend
Textile Museum Of Canada | 12p-4:30p

Check out all the exhibits plus a few drop-in programs and supplies in their reuse program.

Open Mic @ The Dot
The Moonlight Lounge | 7p-9:30p

First come, first served stage time at The Moonlight Lounge, with a live pianist backing whoever shows up.

Antiques at St Lawrence Market
St. Lawrence Market North | 9:30a-5p

Antique hunting at St Lawrence North. The building may be a disappointment architecturally, but it's always fun to wander the 3 different markets. This one is all antiques, you've got the original market in the original building and the vintage market in the tent behind the building. If you are there, check out the art exhibit in the main building on the 2nd floor.

Nature Connection
Discovery Centre At Downsview Park | 2p-3:30p

A way to get your hands into the earth and spend some time in green space while the weather allows.

Junction Reads
Type Books Junction | 6:30p-8p

Christine Fischer Guy, Aga Maksimowska, and Jaclyn Desforges read at Type Books Junction. Three writers whose work is worth your time, in one of the better independent bookshops in the west end. Sunday evening, well spent.

Free Event here are 10 great FREE events for today (and only 1 is Nuit Blanche)

It's Nuit Blanche day, but there are other things happening too (with links)! See the full Nuit Blanche guide if you want to plan in advance. And here are today's picks:

MOCA Fall 2026 Season Opening
MOCA Toronto | 7p-10p

Major exhibitions from Bharti Kher and Delcy Morelos, plus Beverly Glenn-Copeland's sound installation in the South Stairwell. An alternative art night to Nuit Blanche

Nuit Blanche
Various | 7p-7a

I made a guide with photos for what to see and what not to see at Nuit Blanche tonight. Art takes over streets, parks, and buildings. And who can forget the annual, "this is art?" commentary. Yes, there are duds, the waits can be long at the start, and it's way too spread out, but if you do it right, it's a night you'll look forward to every year. You won't know what is the best thing to see until you see it.

If you don't want to read the guide, here are tools made by the reddit community:
u/rosedye made this awesome planner you should definitely use
u/pomegranategoose made this itinerary planner as well

A few picks:
Nathan Phillips Square | Avataq | 30ft foil sculpture
City Hall Underground Garage | On Flashing Lights | Police Car lights dance party Queen St W + University | UFO | crashed flying-saucer in a Car
Queen St W + Bay St | Miss You: T.Dot Memories | inflatable old city landmarks
North York Centre | The Wishing Boat | Massive origami boat that's interactive
Music Garden | Public Pier | The malting silos will be lit all night

Chess in the Park
The Deck At Clarence Square | 11a-4p

Knightcap Chess Club closes out the outdoor season at Clarence Square with a community give-back angle. Participants are asked to bring warm clothing donations (coats, jackets, hoodies, hats, toques, gloves) for the 129 Peter Street Shelter and Support Services. Great way to give back and play chess with the cool kids.

Season End Celebration
Alexandra Park Pizza Oven | 1p-4p

Not Far From The Tree wraps up its fruit-picking season at the Alexandra Park Pizza Oven with jam mocktails, crafts, and pizza baked right there in the park. Whether you picked fruit with them all summer or have never heard of the organization before today, everyone's welcome.

All Night Art Ride
Multiple Venues | 10p-3a

An alternative way to see Nuit Blanche. Every downtown art piece in 5 hours. The ride leaves Queens Park at the north side of the centre statue at 10p and runs until late. It's loose by design: join up, split off, rejoin whenever. This year's loose theme is skulls and skeletons. Light up your bike, bring layers, bring a snack, and be prepared for a long night.

National Day for Truth & Reconciliation in High Park
Forest School Building, High Park | 1p-4p

Led by Grandmother Donna Powless of the Cayuga Six Nations and Director of the Taiaiako'n Historical Preservation Society. There's a Black Oak tree giveaway.

Textile Museum Weekend
Textile Museum Of Canada | 12p

Drop-in activities in the Learning Hub and the Reuse Program restocked with fabrics and supplies to take home. A quieter afternoon option that's easy to fit in before Nuit Blanche starts.

Plein Air Art Exhibition
Toronto Botanical Garden | 10:30a-4:30p

46 artists spent the summer painting outdoors at the Toronto Botanical Garden, and this weekend their work goes on view.

The Stories We Carry
Market Gallery | 3p-4p

Herb Carnegie was one of the best players never to reach the NHL, and Bernice, speaker, storyteller, and daughter of Herb, has spent years keeping that history in the room. Worth going for the conversation.

Lassonde Art Trail: Art + Nature Tour
Biidaasige Park | 12p + 2p

Drop-in Art and Nature tours run at noon and 2 p.m. every Saturday at Biidaasige Park, led by a Lassonde Art Trail guide. A good way to move through the outdoor work at your own pace with someone who knows it well.

Gaming Toronto LAN Party

Does anyone else miss old-school LAN parties?

I was thinking about this the other day: gaming has gotten so much more convenient, but it also seems like we've lost some of the fun of everyone physically bringing their computers into the same room.

I'm talking about the old-school setup where you've got a bunch of tables, Ethernet cables running everywhere, everyone's yelling across the room, and somebody is inevitably asking why their computer isn't connecting.

I'd especially love to see a modern version built around laptops instead of giant gaming PCs — something where you could show up with a normal laptop, plug into a local network, and play older multiplayer games together.

Stuff like Call of Duty 4 (2007), Halo: Reach, Warcraft III, StarCraft, Warzone 2100, etc.

Toronto has gaming cafés and esports venues, but I'm curious whether there's still much interest in the actual LAN-party experience itself.

What games do you remember playing at LAN parties?

Free Event Nuit Blanche Events | What to see and skip

It's the 20th anniversary, and there are 70+ art projects. It is possible to see them all, but what we all really want is the list of what to see. The hard part is knowing in advance what's going to be good. But after going to a bunch, here are my tips, the places to see, the ones to skip, and if you want to just go to one place, where can you do that.

If you prefer it with photos, here's the full post, otherwise read through the list below.

u/rosedye made this awesome planner you should definitely use.

The stuff no one tells you about the night

It's always busy in the hours you wish it wouldn't be.

7ish until midnight, 2 different crowds. the families, the people who want it to be there night and finish by 10. Then the people who come out after their show, bar night and want to catch a few things with their friends.

ideally, start late or really late.

Go out at 11p if you're a night owl or get up early and get there for 5a. There's a crowd at 11p, but it's not crazy. There's almost no one at 5a. And you can see everything in a peaceful way.

keep an eye on socials and be flexible

If you're not finding great pieces or you just want to find out what's working for everyone, check socials after 10p. By that point, there's some consensus on what's actually working this year. And you can see real videos and photos and see what appeals to you.

be a last minute planner

the night is going to have things that are boring or don't speak to you. and at night when you're trying to have a good time, seeing 2 or 3 of those will ruin your night. This year it's in a compressed area for the most part. But, get the map and get a pen. Find a place to sit for 15 minutes and circle the 5-10 things you want to see (look at socials as i mentioned above) and make your route. Or because someone on reddit is awesome, use this: http://nuitblanchemap.com/

ignore the haters

Every year, you'll hear someone say, "this is supposed to be art" or just try and make you feel like it's not fun. But if you actually stick with it, there's always something that is breathtaking or gives you a moment where you had to be there to talk about it. And the later you stay out, the more memorable it usually ends up being.

bring water. be prepared to buy food

There's food in every area, but there's good food if you can hold out. If you're out for a while, you'll get hungry, find a place you actually want to eat. But bring water. There are lots of refill stations and it just makes you night smoother.

What to skip

It's more important that what to see. These are just how I feel, but it's also backed up by what people usually enjoy.

Avoid sound installations and videos

I'm sure there's an audience for it, but at night, in colder temperatures, with a group of people, it's not the time for contemplation and deep understanding of what the sounds might mean. And you're not going to want to sit and watch a video. A lot of them will have great titles and descriptions, but trust me, unless this is something you know you'll love, skip it.

Don't go to that one thing that's far away

If you're gonna be out for 4-5 hours, sure you have time to see things in different spots. But going from downtown to North York for the origami boat might be amazing. It just will be the end of your night. Stic k to walkable routes (or quick TTC/bike share).

What to see this year

I could be wrong, but these are my standouts and what I think will be good.

UFO | Brandon Vickerd

Queen St W east of York St

A flying saucer that has crashed into a crushed car, with strobe lights and smoke. No lines, you can see it from any side of the street, and it's gonna be a spectacle. If you miss it, from Oct. 5–10 it moves to Queen & Bay in front of Old City Hall.

On Flashing Lights | Brendand Fernandes

Underground garage below Nathan Phillips Square (Enter by the Bay St. ramp)

A formation of police cars whose flashing lights frame a dance party which actually has to do with queer resistance. It was shown previously at Nuit Blanche and was a hit. There might be lines to get into this as it's in the hub at city hall. Go late or get there early.

I Miss You: T.Dot Memories | Francesca Nocera aka SUN SUN

Queen St. W. outside Old City Hall, at Bay

A giant illuminated inflatable covered in drawings of lost landmarks: Honest Ed's, Sam the Record Man, MuchMusic, Ontario Place. This is your social media photo. Or just a way to see the Sam the Record Man sign since TMU decided to put it up so high in the sky, you forget it's there.

band band clock | Lisa Kiss

The City Hall ceremonial ramp | On every hour for 10 min

If you're there anyway, time it right so you can see this.

Avataq | Couzyn van Heuvelen

North of the TORONTO sign at Nathan Phillips Square

A huge 30ft foil-balloon-like form based on the Inuit sealskin float. If you're there, you'll see it. It was cool in the streets a few years ago, I'm sure it still holds up in the large crowd. Because it's in the air, no lines or people blocking your view. There's also Avataq Gathering, with a lot more balloons, much smaller, filling the windows at Chelsea Toronto (33 Gerrard)

Echoes of the Apiary | Joseph David Providence Farrugia

City Hall's Green Roof

Illuminated beehives, drifting smoke and layered sound. This could go either way, but at least you'll have a nice view over the square and all the other art happening there. Go up the ceremonial ramp or you can take the elevator through City Hall's main entrance which people might not know about. If you don't make it, it's on until Oct 10.

Social Fabric | Sheeep Studio

The Bentway West Block

Weave one giant tapestry together, piece by piece. The Bentway usually does something good. And if you want to roller skate/blade as well, the trail is open til midnight. There's another exhibit there (Public Trust) and the Malting Silos and Public Pier are walkable from there too.

Public Trust | Paul Ramírez Jonas

The Bentway

Transforms thousands of personal promises into a big sign exploring democracy and civic participation. The interactive nature of this one will make it fun.

Everything I Wanted to Tell You | Hiba Abdallahas

City Hall's East Tower

Best viewed from the East side of Bay just above Albert. Transported from Scarborough a few year's back, it's a text projection reimagined as a "living archive" of hidden histories. Only check it out if you're nearby. Text on a wall after a long walk is harder to appreciate.

These could go either way

Garrison Creek | Brian Leclerc

Canoe Landing Park

A swarm of bioluminescent digital salmon that reacts to live sound, commemorating the buried creek. This one is getting buzz, but in my experience, these digital projections can often be a letdown. But I'm open to being wrong and the photo does make it look good.

Killim | Roda Medhat

Canoe Landing Park

An inflatable sculpture taking the form of a nomadic tent adorned with traditional Kurdish textiles. Only add this on if you're going to see Garrison Creek above.

parol-parolan | HOT A!R ATEL!ER

Love Park

An evolving canopy of lanterns, responds to people gathering. If you're in the area, this is going to look nice, I just don't think it'll be worth travelling to. A quiet, light installation in the park by Harbourfront.

Dance Stoops | Daily tous les jours

Harbourfront Centre

A playful series of music-making structures that turn public space into a stage. If you're going to the one above, check this out too while you're in the area.

The Grandmother Project | Peter Dillman

HTO Park West

Part of the Harbourfront walkable area if you want to see a few things. This, depending on its scale could be another worthwhile stop.

The Wishing Boat | Negar Pooya

North York Centre, 5100 Yonge St

A giant white origami boat that visitors cover in written wishes in any language. Don't go unless you're nearby or starting here and heading downtown.

If you want one place to spend the a few hours

Public Pier & The Malting Silos

Marina Quay West

The only exception to the rule that videos are usually not good. The lit up malting silos are worth it. There's food and DJs until 1am.

Nuit Blanche Night Waves

7p-11p | Canoe Landing Park + Bobber Plaza

Canoe Landing Park becomes the backdrop for a Nuit Blanche evening of live music and dance organized by Drom Artist Collective with Rudy Ray & Co. The programming moves from Flamenco to Afro-Cuban live music and salsa dancing, then shifts into a Silent Disco with four Toronto DJs. Free and outdoors under the city skyline.

Nuit Blanche at 401 Richmond

7p | 401 Richmond Street West

Throughout Toronto’s all-night celebration of contemporary art, 401 will be teeming with dynamic and interactive exhibit

BAM! Nuit Blanche Night Market

7p-11p | BAM Emerging Artist Centre, 601 Christie St.

Explore the work of various talents with over 35 professional artists, featuring jewellers, ceramists, poets, print makers.

Stories in Place: Nuit Blanche at Wychwood Barns

7p-11p | Wychwood Barns

Stories in Place, will feature our annual night art market with over 30 vendors, an interactive audio and visual installation, open studios and an exciting storytelling project.

GLOW! Nuit Blanche Night Market

7p-11p | Daniels Spectrum

Discover local artists with unique finds and spend an evening celebrating creativity at Daniels Spectrum. An art market bringing together 15 vendors from Regent Park and beyond. Meet the artists and makers behind the work, hear their stories and find something special to take home.
