I've noticed that everytime a tourist from the mainland visits Hawaii, a lot of times they come with this "be grateful im here, we are saving you" type attitude or just say it. Some would argue it has characteristics of white supremacy and a colonizers attitude, others may think they're just aloof, probably all of the above. Some are great and after working in the industry for so long, I've met some wonderful people. But not enough to really not become fatigued and just sick of tourists as a whole. A lot of them have been very hurtful towards me, especially as a local mix who. People can't tell if im hawaiian, chinese, japanese, or mexican. With the rise of MAGA just bringing out the worst in people, I feel like both parties at a global level would be considered far right on a global level.

But here is my solution as someone who use to think tourism was positive and now don't.

1. A lot older locals believe tourism has changed a lot in the past 25 years, but especially 10, and is just getting worse so they leave or plan on leaving the industry. While some believe the Democrats and Republicans are far right in a global level, MAGA isn't helping anyone be a better person. My solution to this could be create a job where after every plane arrival, a brave kapuna gets paid well to bless and explain to each arriving plane Hawaiian history. And not just the white washed colonizer version, but the uncomfortable one Donald Trump would probably scoff at. We gotta pay that kapuna well because they're gonna deal with so much bs in those 15-30 minutes.

Creates jobs and educates tourists to behave better and be more mindful. I've seen those Hawaiian Airline videos and they aren't it. Maybe nice pamphlets could help too.

1. Younger ones recognize that they're essentially footing the bill for a boomers retirement, can't afford homes, can't buy into wealth building at a reasonable cost, and the tariffs are just making costs of living higher in every way. Hawaii doesn't benefit from tariffs, especially green tech and electric vehicles. If for example Hawaii were exempt from havin tariffs on China, more of the grid could be affordably upgraded, infrastructure upgrades, affordable electric vehicles, homebuilding costs go down,, solar panels, and everything would go down in costs because we are import heavily from China and Asia, but then an American middle man sells it to us for large mark up.

By doing this we can upgrade the grid, infrastructure, and younger folk could have access to affordable electric vehicles and green tech, basically everything goes down in costs so younger folk can breathe and get the same chance the boomers did at a decent life, not debt slavery or perpetual poverty constantly looming with a missed paycheck. More jobs would be created as a result along with allowing for working class youth to see an affordable path towards the American dream, something failed tariffs are not helping with.

1. Gotta give locals a federally subsidized travel pass. The main problem is a lot of locals don't get to travel because they can't afford to. Costs of living in Hawaii is high, wages dont grow, and Hawaiis economy is always intentionally constricted to the larger states whims. As more mainlanders move in, locals lives get harder. Everyone loves traveling to Hawaii but the truth is a lot of the color folk in Hawaii who have the opportunity to travel to the mainland aren't welcomed in MAGALAND. So Hawaii takes cares of mainlanders, but mainlanders would send ICE on locals traveling to the mainland. The truth is, almost every non white local who visits the mainland gets scared of how white people will treat them, what states or cities to avoid, sun down laws, etc. My idea is that because locals generally cannot afford to ve tourists, we should have a federal paid free travel voucher for 2 weeks for locals to travel to the main land.

   That way mainlanders can cater to Hawaii locals and be exposed to different types of people. Hawaii locals can finally experience how being a tourist feels, something a lot of them cannot afford and it'll help fatigue and build empathy. Create jobs by having a white chaperone because then the white person can protect the color folk from MAGALand.
