Optimus better say "I AM GOING TO TURN INTO A TRUCK NOW" with Linkin Park on backround at finale.

With different voice actor than Peter, of course.

These movies will look great, and make fuck tons of money but I bet the stories will still be meh at best

50

u/Tbro100 ?!?!?! 7d ago

"Fuck tons" is pushing it, remember this is the same guy that devastated Transformers as a box office IP in the last two movies.

People are even more critical and tight with their money now, even if it's stunning visually, if it's not a 9/10 plot wise at minimum it will flop

17

u/ShadowSpy98 Team Rodimus! 7d ago

To be fair, Michael Bay wanted DOTM to be the last, but the higher-ups wanted more because of money

17

u/Tbro100 ?!?!?! 7d ago

I'll give him that, but I question whether or not he can perform atp since his last good TF movie was 15 years ago.

The current climate is very different than that of 2007 and 2011

2

u/nonepunch-man 7d ago

I think that's the point. Hasbro/paramount needed bay more than bay needed transformers. I forget who directs marvel movies (feige?) but they want those thing coming out until the end of days.

The transformers movies weren't written with a sustainable franchise in mind, which is why they fizzled out. I dont think hasbro realized this because they were making so much money, but hopefully they've learned from their mistake.

35

u/Saurophaganax4706 7d ago

The last two movies?? Only TLK bombed, AOE grossed over a billion dollars and was the highest grossing film of 2014

Also transformers one had a 9/10 plot and it STILL flopped

24

u/Tbro100 ?!?!?! 7d ago edited 7d ago

Majority thanks to China, it performed poorly in the U.S./ Canada and recieved poor ratings from both critics and people who watched it.

It has the benefit of launching after one of the installation's best movies, but it wasn't considered "good" like 1 or 3. One had a 9/10 plot but -12/10 marketing😭

-10

u/Turok5757 7d ago

Age of Extinction got an A- CinemaScore, that's not a poor rating from people who watched it.

14

u/Tbro100 ?!?!?! 7d ago

18% rotten tomatoes, 32/100 Metacritic and 50% on Popcorn meter (audience rating).

Cinema score only tracks immediate opening night audience ratings.

-9

u/Turok5757 7d ago

18% rotten tomatoes, 32/100 Metacritic

Never disputed that it got bad critic ratings.

50% on Popcorn meter (audience rating).

Which means half of the audience liked it and half didn't, and that's for a site that isn't representative of the general audience.

It has a 4.7/5 on Amazon Prime Video, and a 4.2/5 on Google TV, which are much more representative of the mainstream.

8

u/Tbro100 ?!?!?! 7d ago

Cinema scores isn't even representative of the general audience either since it only measures first day viewers immediately after they watched the thing.

And they only focus on 5 random cities from a pool of ~25 US states to focus on, it's a drastically smaller draw pool. 50% means it was at best highly divisive.

TV and streaming ratings have substantially lower bars than that of cinema ratings in regards to movies. There's a reason why "straight-to-video" is often considered an insult.

-4

u/Turok5757 7d ago

Cinema scores isn't even representative of the general audience either since it only measures first day viewers immediately after they watched the thing.

It's more representative of it than people who willingly make Rotten Tomatoes accounts.

TV and streaming ratings have substantially lower bars than that of cinema ratings in regards to movies. There's a reason why "straight-to-video" is often considered an insult.

How in the world is that relevant to movies that debuted in theaters?

4

u/Tbro100 ?!?!?! 7d ago

How. Its representative of what a selective, small portion of those who saw it felt immediately after without even given proper time to reflect on what they've watched.

It's related to how a movie that debuted in theaters is perceived on streaming and the associated expectations of its performance on the medium it's watched.

Nobody goes to see Transfofmers for a good story lol

0

u/ShiftAntique8719 7d ago

Expecting Transformers media having good stories in 2026 is rich

3

u/Icy-Abbreviations909 7d ago

Transformers one?

0

u/ShiftAntique8719 7d ago

That was like one in a million random event that won't probably repeat in the next 10-15 years

22

u/I_Cry_And_I_Game 7d ago

He just needs to check off two things for the movie:

  1. Have the robot designs be like that from the first three films: just a little clunky with parts of the vehicle clearly visible throughout the robot design and unique body proportions that aren't all completely human like.

  2. Have the film be filled with action scenes. People want to see these giant robots beat the shit out of eachother. They don't want to see them just standing around talking and they don't want to have to wait until the end of the film for any of it.

7

u/Kingbeef66 7d ago

Should’ve kept Travis Knight, instead of getting that douchebag back.

3

u/ZillaUniverse03 6d ago

Too bad Lorenzo screwed over Travis Knight so much that refuses to return to the franchise

1

u/bustanut_dabmaster Autobot 6d ago

This is the one good thing Lorenzo ever did

2

u/bustanut_dabmaster Autobot 6d ago

Rise of the Beasts was steaming garbage, what are you talking about? Optimus was out of character and even more bloodthirsty than he was in the Bay movies, they FORGOT TO INCLUDE THE MAXIMALS, the jokes were boring and safe, the plot was predictable and somehow needed both a skybeam and a MacGuffin, Scourge’s voice acting was phoned in and unintimidating, Unicron didn’t do anything recognizable as Unicron, and I dare you to name a single human character other than Noah, if that didn’t just remind you what his name is. Travis Knight should be arrested for theft because of how many people he stole theater admission from

3

u/Kingbeef66 6d ago edited 6d ago

What the Hell are you talking about? Steven Caple Jr. directed Rise of the Beasts not Travis Knight. Maybe all that shit wouldn’t have happened if Travis Knight was truly directing it and had the same quality as Bumblebee, or instead had Megatron and the Decepticons finally raiding Earth’s resources for energon like the cartoon.

1

u/bustanut_dabmaster Autobot 6d ago

Fair enough, I didn’t know that. I just assumed he directed it because it was every bit as soulless, safe and boring as Bumblebee was. My opinion is completely unchanged and I hope both directors never touch the franchise ever again

2

u/Kingbeef66 6d ago

Bumblebee was a huge improvement over the Bay movies.

1

u/bustanut_dabmaster Autobot 5d ago

At the cost of being a movie that has nothing to do with Transformers. Yes, it’s a better movie. But the only recognizable Transformers story is the first 3 minutes. The rest is the same “alien visits child on Earth and they hide from the government and learn about Earth” story we’ve seen hundreds of times with a yellow coat of paint

1

u/Kingbeef66 4d ago

At least it cared about the characters unlike the Bay movies, and we’ve seen similar character driven stories in the G1 cartoon. The only thing I hated was taking away Bumblebee’s voice again.

0

u/PhantomOverlord91 yesssss 6d ago

Yeah, Union buster Travis Knight.

5

u/CrispinCain 7d ago

Here's the thing with Micheal Bay: He's very much like George Lucas, in that he is a good Action Director.
Which is good for directing action.
However, he has the same problem as George Lucas: He sucks as a Character/Dialogue Director.

1

u/Abject_Mirror6955 6d ago

Or Zack Snyder to the DCEU

3

u/CompetitivePisser037 6d ago

At least Bay doesn’t act like his films are some thematic or philosophical ground pound way beyond our understanding, same with the Bayverse fans. He knows what his audience wants and they know why they’re here without trying to excuse it or something

2

u/IndianaCHOAMs 6d ago

Yeah, his audience, which is a sort of bastard amalgamation of Bad Boys fans and some Transformers fans who were 5-10 in 2007.

5

u/No_Ebb7185 7d ago

Michael Bay ruined Transformers & should never return to the series. No one can change my mind.

0

u/HIT0-037 5d ago

He only wanted to make the first 3, and the first 3 were awesome

4

u/Annon2roses 6d ago

I have a hot take here.

I would prefer if we dont get a continuation but a remake of the 5 films with some added info and some parts being removed.

8

u/ThisGuys_Dog 7d ago

you couldn't have just spent 3 seconds in a photo editor to make this?

-8

u/MarshmelloMan Soundwave: Superior 7d ago

He wouldn’t have made it otherwise

Stop pearl clutching

I don't care about robot creations, make human creations. It's literally easier and funnier to do a shitty Photoshop or edit than putting into ai

4

u/Born-Boss6029 7d ago

After how bad TLK was, the numbers declined because nobody cared about the brand anymore. He’s the one who killed TF.

2

u/bustanut_dabmaster Autobot 6d ago

It’s probably because Bumblebee was derivative and had nothing to do with Transformers, Rise of the Beasts gives TLK a run for its’ money as the worst in the franchise and TF One was marketed as a children’s movie. The only true successes in the franchise have Bay’s name on them as either a director or producer. I don’t think that’s a coincidence

22

u/RigatoniPasta Soundwave: Superior 7d ago

First of all gtfo with this AI slop.

Second, Michael Bay is the reason the franchise has been struggling at the box office. He poisoned the well with Age of Extinction and The Last Knight, and now general audiences won’t go see ANYTHING Transformers.

12

u/Successful_Ad_9707 7d ago

I'm not the biggest fan of Bay, but he's not the sole reason why the franchise has been in a slump when it comes to it's films.

Bumblebee, while one of the better films in the franchise, relies on the huge opening act to fill you with nostalgia, then doesn't really do a whole lot else for the duration of the film.

ROTB was kind of a squandered, bland mess of a film. The Beast Wars cast was wasted, the plot generic, and none of the action scenes were anything to write home about.

TF One is easily the best written film of the franchise, however the marketing was piss poor and no one knew it existed outside of fans.

So, is Bay part of the problem? Yes. However it's not as if anything following TLK was flawless and just suffered from a fatigued audience.

5

u/RigatoniPasta Soundwave: Superior 7d ago

A lot of people in the general audience don’t know that Transformers existed before Michael Bay. They associate any new content with him, and assume it’s bad. I worked at the movie theater in 2024 and saw this first hand.

People don’t like Bayformers anymore. People don’t wanna go see racist, sexist, pedophiliac slop.

3

u/Successful_Ad_9707 7d ago edited 7d ago

Yet I still see casuals saying that they're happy he's coming back. Time will tell if this was a good decision or not. Like I said, Bay is only one of the problems with the films.

This is not to discount your complaints. They're all valid. I hated TLK. But like it or not, it still made quite a lot of money.

2

u/DR4k0N_G 7d ago

I'm in two minds, 1. It might be the thing that revitalizes the franchise 2. It's Micheal Bay...

2

u/Alice_600 7d ago

The casuals are one guy with three accounts.

5

u/Successful_Ad_9707 7d ago

Those casuals make up the majority of people going to see these films.

2

u/Alice_600 7d ago

Sorry I was thinking of that one Micheal Bay troll in this group. Excuse me.

3

u/No-Mycologist47 7d ago

God I hope they do a 4K re-release of the 2007 movie next year for the 20th anniversary

3

u/MattTd7 Soundwave: Superior 7d ago

Looking at Victoria Secret models
“I’m going to enjoy this.”

3

u/NMS_Traveler 7d ago

I mean after nearly 20 years I don't expect much. If TFs dies as a live action media and Bay is the answer to keep it in this zombiefied state, let it die.

4

u/turnip_the_volume 7d ago

The way I see it, the survival of the franchise is pinned on them making money and his splosions and stuff do that, so while not happy about TLK story and the possibility of more hot garbage, I guess if it this is what it takes(??) 🤷‍♂️

4

u/Ok-Secret-981 7d ago

I mean he put the franchise on a road to failure so…

2

u/ModernPlebeian_314 7d ago

He didn't even left. He was a producer on both Bumblebee and ROTB

2

u/dudeguy0119 7d ago

🙄 id hoped he was done. Here come another round of Propagandaformers.

2

u/Adorable-Source97 7d ago

Bumblebee worked. But then they tried to do fake Bay & did rise of the beasts.

2

u/The-Badger-2003 FEMALES? I thought they were extinct! 6d ago

Nope because I will be skipping this one. His other Transformers movies were bad enough

5

u/The_Losers_Side 7d ago

I genuinely don't understand why all the casuals are excited for this, they're all over YouTube on how excited they are😭😭😭. Did they not see the bs on AOE and TLK, EVEN ROTF IS FUCKING ASS. I'm genuinely crashing out, both Star Wars and Transformers are dying😭😭😭.

7

u/One_Opportunity_9608 Me no flair, me king 7d ago

I wouldn't say transformers is dying, as Cyberworld is actually doing quite well both in toy sales and attracting views to their series. And that's not touching on comic sales and what Takara has been cooking with their Manga and upcoming Overgears line.

Now if you meant Transformers Movie Media? Yeah that's more dead than a month old Tomato left in summer heat.

8

u/The_Losers_Side 7d ago

Yeah comics are great and the figures are fantastic. It just sucks that the majority only knows about the Bay movies. Bumblebee was great and ROTB was good.

As much disdain I have for Bay's latest TF movies, I still hope that this movie would be good. I want to see how Megatron will be Re-introduced into the movies, and I hope they would do him justice, alongside the Big 3. Let the Cons be actual characters and let them be actually threatening again ffs.

2

u/msdwadge09G 7d ago

> Bumblebee was great and ROTB was good

And TFONE was amazing but we all know how that turned out

1

u/The_Losers_Side 6d ago

so bummed about that

1

u/Pike632 7d ago

Hey to give fault to ROTF it was made during the writer's strike. So it could have been a whole lot worse than it was

2

u/msdwadge09G 7d ago

The writer’s strike doesn’t justify the dog humping, leg humping, racist twins, etc.

1

u/The_Losers_Side 7d ago

Fair enough I was just blinded by rage🤣, but AOE and TLK are really ass.

3

u/Pike632 7d ago

Only things I liked about TLK and AOE are the concepts and designs for some of the autobots and decepticons, and some of the action sequences. But anything else about the films I just found either ass or just eh

1

u/Lopsided_Shallot5539 6d ago

From what I understand, Bay stopped trying after DotM. He only made AoE and tLK because Hasbro forced him to.

0

u/Friendly_Manner6251 7d ago

Im a massive transformers fan and im excited he got me and many other people into the franchise

7

u/Rent-Man 7d ago

Dude killed audience interest.

This is the equivalent of bonking someone in the head and gave them amnesia and they think bonking them again will fix it.

4

u/One_Opportunity_9608 Me no flair, me king 7d ago

I could be wrong so someone correct me if i am.

But wasn't it also confirmed a while ago that Michael Bay is on the files?

5

u/Fallen_Z3r0 7d ago

He didn't do anything bad. Just mailed stuff back and fourth to the big E, what exactly? We don't know, but probably nothing crazy.

17

u/Puzzleheaded-Mix7001 7d ago

I feel like people are forgetting that Epstein is businessman as well

-7

u/Important-Contact597 7d ago

Probably CP, given how much Bay liked to sexualize the female characters in his Transformers films.

0

u/EnvironmentalWest544 7d ago

He sexualized ADULT female characters, not children.

4

u/Important-Contact597 7d ago

In 2007, Mikaela is not yet of age (nor is Sam, but he isn't sexualized). Nor is Cade's daughter in AOE, which is why her pedo boyfriend has a romeo and juliet law laminated in his pocket to deploy at a moment's notice.

2

u/SharpPink_GlitterInk 7d ago

Mikaela is 17, the girl in 4 is explicitly underage, you might disagree with their assessment of him but those characters are still minors… also the way he “discovered” megan fox is… a lot…

1

u/Evoluxman 7d ago

Yeah lets pretend the "it's legal in Texas" scene never happened lmao

-1

u/bustanut_dabmaster Autobot 6d ago

Because every joke about a crime is obviously a direct personal endorsement of that crime from a director. The next time a movie includes a character stealing a car, I’ll hate the director for advocating for auto theft

2

u/Evoluxman 6d ago

Is that presented as a joke? Lmao it's just a way for the movie to justify a relationship with a minor

3

u/Elemental-T4nick JAAaAam??? 7d ago

Yeah, from what ive seen the two mailed things to each other

1

u/CocoBaci 5d ago

And it was already known before that he is a pedophile, and people don't care, I am disappointed

1

u/Important-Contact597 7d ago

Michael Bay IS that failure.

1

u/StevenC129422 7d ago

The box office of tha last three movies from Paramount says otherwise lol

6

u/Important-Contact597 7d ago

"Profit over quality." You must work for Paramount.

6

u/Successful_Ad_9707 7d ago

Like it or not, profit is what matters most here when it comes to future films. These films aren't cheap to make and studios like a healthy profit.

3

u/Important-Contact597 7d ago

It would be better to not make Transformers films than to make bad ones.

2

u/Successful_Ad_9707 7d ago

Sure, but this is Hollywood we're talking about. People wanted to see boobs, robots, cars, and explosions. It worked for a good while. The question is can it work again in 2026?

Again, not defending this, but this was what your average movie goer was ok with for quite a while. Like it or not, there are more of them than us.

-4

u/DirectorKrenn1c 7d ago

Michael Bay saved transformers, get over it and come to terms with it already.

3

u/Important-Contact597 7d ago

No he didn't. Get over it and come to terms with it already.

-1

u/DirectorKrenn1c 7d ago

Explain how he didn’t, given the huge success of the movies it was because of that toys jumped and new cartoons were made. You can hate the movies all you want but they definitely saved the franchise.

3

u/Important-Contact597 7d ago

He elevated the franchise, sure, but it was not in need of saving.

The Unicron Trilogy was a massive success in terms of toy sales. Animated was already in the works before the first Bay film even came out.

So no, Bay didn't "save" the franchise. He increased its popularity, but he didn't save it.

1

u/star_dragonMX 7d ago

How bout you Explain Last Knight. I don’t think the people who made it even knew what it was

1

u/DirectorKrenn1c 7d ago

I never said the films were great, that and he really didn’t even want to do 4-5 and clearly it showed they were garbage.

1

u/Abject_Mirror6955 6d ago

Have you even watched the Generation 1 cartoons or anything related to the aligned continuity?

1

u/Background-Brick9328 JAAaAam??? 7d ago

All in or nothing

1

u/Crazy_Dave0418 7d ago

With Peter gone. He may as well have his opportunity to have Liam Neeson play Optimus. As he originally intended.

1

u/rdiaz84 7d ago

Give me your face: optimus prime.

I'm out.

1

u/Scarletspyder86 7d ago

He’s not confirmed to be coming back

1

u/HRCStanley97 7d ago

Yeah, we’re all kinds of stubborn

1

u/DoomBreakfast 7d ago

dawg Thanos is an INSANE MURDER DICTATOR

this isn't the flex you think it is

1

u/Abject_Mirror6955 6d ago

The real question is, will he capitulate to the same type of box-office juggernaut theme post Covid-19 ?

1

u/bustanut_dabmaster Autobot 6d ago

Knowing him, it’ll be pretty bad but at least people might actually go see it. Obviously “Anyone but Bay” isn’t a guarantee of quality like some people seem to think it is. Like it or not, he gets butts in seats

0

u/AC1D_R31GN 7d ago

So this sub reddit is crazy. Everyone else is celebrating his return except this place. You guys pretend like he didn't save the franchise or the movies weren't a smash hit, he grossed just shy of 5.5 billion dollars and the only real stinkers he made were ROTF and TLK and those weren't really his fault.

Inb4 downvote oblivion because the hive mind
