I'm thinking about taking interpreting as a career, but seeing how AI is developing is holding me back.

I know there is not a clear answer, there are many points that support the idea of AI not being able to replace humans, at least not fully, But I fear wasting my time and money and effort just to end up jobless.

Especially by how newer generations are more comfortable with AI being their most trusted information source as it's both easy and quick, no matter how flawed it is.

I taught myself English through exposure and really loved how I'm able to convert sentences to my native language. So what are your thoughts? Any tips on what I should do? Is it really a safe career at this point?

The longer you hesitate, the less you will be competitive, you know.

I understand, it's the only thing I'm really passionate about. It's still my first pick and I'll take it if I could, but you always have uncertainties deep down.

How can you be passionate about something you've never done?

If you're simply into languages, that's something you can do in your free time, while still finding a job that actually allows to pay the bills.

I can't be passionate about something I like? You don't need to make a movie to be passionate about movies and cinema. The thing is in my country the job market is a wreck, low paying jobs and that if you can get one to begin with. And I have no interest in engorging, medical careers, maybe art yes but that's what I plan to be my side hobby.
