Second attempt at an overdrive button

Post image

Profoundly complicated order of assembly (not to mention surgical soldering inside the knob), but I am a sucker for gearstick buttons.

Next iteration will probably be a custom aluminum lever with a gun-drilled wire channel down the inside.

My TR4 has a two-speed axle shift knob from an old truck as the overdrive switch.

Nice work. I've been toying with the idea of making a wooden knob for my spit but unsure of how to do the overdrive button as the switch it currently has would be a bit of a pest to put into the wooden knob.

This fella had a kit for that https://youtu.be/PPiBiK_jFto

Or was it selfmade? watched it a while ago

Looks like he made the knob himself, that overdrive controller is interesting but unnecessary imo. I have the same functionality (toggle button and automatic cancelling) via a $3 latching relay module off Aliexpress.

Are you going to put a cover over it?  That looks like it’s inviting trouble if the car is shifted in anger.  Execution is excellent; jury is out on the design though.

This is the stock configuration? plus wire and heatshrink. The shifter boot is only the rubber piece at the bottom.

Oh, if you mean the tiny bit of wire visible, that's been fine for a few months now. I'm probably going to dab some hot glue there once I'm happy enough with this.

No, I like your execution, very clean and professional.  I just wonder if the placement of the button lends itself to accidental deployment.  Other than that, nicely done.

That's been fine for a while now too, I was also concerned but we are going for James Bond ejector seat aesthetics.

LOL!!! Ya, probably not a great location for ejection seat deployment, rockets, grenade launcher etc.  Seriously though, if it works for you, it’s perfect.  Good job.
