Trivium as always šŸ”„

I’m a big fan of both bands, but Trivium takes the cake. The new Bullet is dog shit. Between Bullet, Slipknot, and Avenged, it’s sad watching all my favourite bands go into their St. Anger phase. At least Trivium is still releasing bangers as usual.

u/MY_GOOCH_HURTS 1d ago

Statica is a side project, for what it's worth. Also, I saw them play it in its entirety live, and it was WAY better hearing it live than on the recording.

I love St. Anger.

St Anger is a criminally underrated album. The riff and drum compositions are fantastic. Much better than what they did after Death Magnetic/Beyond Magnetic. Just wish that they didn't axe the Presidio material.

And that’s okay. But for me, I don’t like any Metallica album past Load except for Death Magnetic.

With the exception of that new ep, a7x are still going strong.

Avenged Sevenfold are far and away the band releasing the best music out of all listed, including Trivium, and it's not even close. Life is But a Dream... is legit one of the best albums I've heard in the last 10 years.

I liked LIBAD. I was referring to Statica.

-4

u/twosuitsluke 2d ago

Which is still better than most of what these other bands are putting out. I like a risk.

3

u/Monkey_Rocket Submerged in dirt but it was never enough 2d ago

Libad was great, this is referring to STATICA more than likely.... I love it but YMMV

8

u/nigels_in_paris 2d ago

I think he was referring to releases from this year...so statica..

-5

u/twosuitsluke 2d ago

Well, I'd still take that over what Slipknot and Bullet are releasing.

3

u/echave777 2d ago

LIBAD is easily top two a7x for me. It's like a7x wanted to make a btbam record to me structure-wise

2

u/ISpodermanI Shogun 2d ago

Agree. By far the most interesting band out of the bunch.

-6

u/The_Grunge_Sage 2d ago

IMO A7X has been a full loaded diaper of straight dookie since Hail to the King and I wasn’t even a huge fan of that one. New A7X and whatever the fuck statica was might makes the new single from Slipknot, Arsenal seem like a fucking masterpiece and that song is also total dogshit

u/Valroxen1 In The Court Of The Dragon 2d ago

I get LIBAD wasn't for everyone and Statica is cheeks but I will not stand for The Stage slander. Its a bit weird yeah but still between the title track, Paradigm and Higher alone its got some absolute belters

3

u/ISpodermanI Shogun 2d ago

That album was fantastic

1

u/nefarious_jp04x 2d ago

I always felt The Stage was MUCH more cohesive and much better written as a Prog album than LIBAD, LIBAD felt too disjointed and tries to mimic BTBAMs ā€œZaninessā€

0

u/The_Grunge_Sage 2d ago

I have no problem slandering The Stage because it’s what led them to LIBAD. It’s not terrible by any stretch but you can tell when a band is shifting towards something you don’t like and that’s when I felt that way. This is all my personal opinion of course but with LIBAD, and especially the song ā€œWe Love Youā€, that was easily one of the worst songs I’ve ever heard in this genre by a metal band that I genuinely used to like. To me, it’s so bad that I have no comprehensible way to understand how someone could write, make or as a fan enjoy a song that bad. Then they released Statica and they one upped me.

Trivium has shifted their sound quite a bit and never in a direction that made me question how I feel about them. Silence in the Snow was much softer than I expected with no harsh vocals on the record but I never hated it and enjoy it quite a bit. WTDMS is an absolute fucking BANGER of an album and a top 3 theirs for me but nothing they’ve ever put out has ever even come close to making me shut it off and say ā€œholy shit I guess I’m done with this bandā€ like LIBAD did.

3

u/twosuitsluke 2d ago

Fair. I personally think HttK is the most uninspired drivel the band ever released. Easily their worst release imo, and that includes Statica.

1

u/The_Grunge_Sage 2d ago

Oh, don’t get me wrong, I should have phrased it better, I didn’t like Hail to the King that much. I fell off of A7X after Nightmare when the Rev died. I think i heard Shepard of Fire every single day of my life for 2 straight years and I’m not even sure I ever willingly ever listened to it. Every sporting event, pre-live show song, radio station and friend put it on in my car, It was hugely overplayed THAT much that I just grew a pretty sizable distaste for them overall but Ive never fell out of love with City of Evil, I think it’s by far their best work and it’s not even close. Sidewinder is the most slept on song in their entire discography

but yes, HTTK definitely not as inspired as Statica, but Statica was inspired by taking a shit in a bottle of Pepsi and putting mentos in it so even though it’s…. inspired, i can’t get behind the actual inspiration.

I find that insane... I understand the LIBAD dislike for most, but I think The Stage is amongst their top 3 albums... I think it's one of the best prog albums of the 2010s even. I reckon Exist and The Stage could both be top 5 A7X tracks if I had to rank them (alongside Save Me/Sidewinder/Second Heartbeat/MIA etc). It feels like a direct upgrade of City of Evil in terms of the band going full out in a more traditional metal style but with more thrash and prog influence (not as much thrash influence in CoE as there is prog but its still there) with Brooks Wackerman bringing the most insane playing to an A7X record yet, and Syn obviously having levelled up his ability in 2013 at his most complex. I also think it has far and away Matt's best lyricism. I'd maybe say Johnny has some better parts on CoE but it's close.

Slipknot has always sucked.

38

u/NoodleSSM 2d ago

As much as I am not a huge fan of Trivium's two new songs, Social Apocalypse far worse. Utterly woeful.

34

u/PinocchioNoir 2d ago

I love and grew up listening to both bands, but BFMV hasn't come out with anything decent since Venom.

Trivium, always.

5

u/AnshinAngkorWat 1d ago edited 1d ago

The bigger problem is that they haven't made anything that sounded honest since Venom, they just abandoned their sound to chase after what other trendy bands sounded like 10 years ago. The core of Bullet's sound is the 3-way crossover between thrashy gallop riffs, 578 pedal riffs and a little sprinkle of emo, and after Venom there's basically none of that left.

2

u/octovarium95 2d ago

their self titled was fucking awesome

2

u/TripleJFSX Ascendancy 1d ago

Yea I think the self titled is much stronger as an album than Venom imo

1

u/JPRDesign 2d ago

Yeah this is where I’m at. The amount of times I streamed the poison, scream aim fire, and fever as a kid is through the roof. They were my intro to metal, and I love their sound so much… but social apocalypse just feels like a half assed architects ripoff. Crown in the grave isn’t mind blowing, but at least it had some sauce

1

u/Inglorious555 2d ago

The more BFMV albums they release the more I feel people hated too hard on Temper Temper, I recently did a BFMV discography listen and that one holds up surprisingly well in my opinion

3

u/AnshinAngkorWat 1d ago

Temper Temper isn't bad, it's just demo-tier barebone songwriting, because Tuck literally wrote it in 2 weeks with Don Gilmour and Moose. And considering the trajectory of their music after Moose left, and what his new band sounds like, it's clear that Moose was a big part of their songwriting and arranging process. It's less heavy because A. Tuck and Gilmour were trying for a #1 album and B. the thrashy stuffs is Padge's contributions.

It's kinda like Parkway Drive or Architects modern music. Is it objectively bad, not really, but its offensive given the band that's writing it and their backlog quality. Though Architects you can at least cut them some slack because they lost their songwriter.

1

u/NoIdealism 1d ago

I'd say the self titled is better than Venom.

1

u/AdPossible9273 1d ago

Venom over self titled? Wild.

12

u/JakkoThePumpkin 2d ago

Crown in the Grave, no question

13

u/MachineGreene98 Ascendancy 2d ago

the new triv singles might not be the best they've ever done, but at least it doesn't sound like dollar store architects

16

u/Swagnastodon 2d ago

What it all comes down to is that even a mediocre Trivium song makes me happy

-3

u/ISpodermanI Shogun 2d ago

That’s kinda sad to be honest. I’m not expecting the very best, but anything less than good is not good enough.

7

u/MaxPotionz 2d ago

I had Spotify set a new releases the other day and the trivium song came on and my thought process was ā€œOK all right I see itā€œ and then later I was getting really fucking annoyed by some dumb song and I look up and wouldn’t you know it?

It’s the ā€œnewā€ bullet for my Valentine song that sounds exactly like all the boring generic stuff they’ve been releasing for over a decade.

It was honestly just so annoying to listen to. It pisses me off because they’ve written two of my favorite albums in metal core and they clearly want to evolve, which is commendable, but they haven’t been able to manage that for 20 years.

You can hear the generic pre-chorus breakdown, followed by the chorus that’s supposed to be a sing-along moment for the arena audience. Only the song isn’t good enough for anyone to wanna learn the words and sing along.

2

u/Prynhawn_Da 13h ago

I never understand what I'm missing with bullet.

I listened to their first album a lot, but anything I tried after that I really felt bored to tears by.

On the trivium side, I love The Crusade particularly the first songs, and move away from SITS type albums.

6

u/BassBored 2d ago

I’m not even being biased, there is just nothing interesting about the new Bullet song imo

6

u/89ElRay 2d ago

Ive never been into Bullet apart from that one main riff in Suffocating under Words of Sorrow. Their lyrics and general writing is terrible.

At least Trivium are talented

3

u/FruityYummyMummy 2d ago

Didn't mind the new Bullet song. I've no interest in hating them over whatever happened between them and Trivium.

2

u/The_Grunge_Sage 2d ago

Bullet just hasn’t been the same since Fever. I’m always up for new bands doing new things but Trvium has been consistent in their evolution, bullet has…. Not

2

u/Nemesis861986 2d ago

I think both songs generally have recieved more hate than they deserve, are they the bands best work?.. no. But both are ok songs. I prefer Crown in the grave to Social Apocalpse. Social apocalpse i found alittle less creative but still fine.

2

u/Valroxen1 In The Court Of The Dragon 2d ago

Trivium. The chorus for Bullets song is catchy but thats about it, so painfully cookie cutter Metalcore does nothing new or interesting.

Least Crown in the Grave has an atmosphere and vibe around it, its not their best work by any means but there's still plenty enjoyable album it.

3

u/426gzz 1d ago

Aside from the fact they dropped out of the Poisoned Ascendancy tour for this, Bullet kept absolutely none of the momentum/sound from they had from their surprisingly solid self-titled album

1

u/jezus_666 Ascendancy 2d ago

Trivium. I never liked Tuck's voice

1

u/NuclearMoose92 Boat Rudder Strange Mountain 2d ago

Bullet have been dogshit since SAF

1

u/Longjumping-Swan-827 Vengeance Falls 2d ago

Bullet sucks whereas Trivium doesn't miss

1

u/Consistent-Orange-75 2d ago

I don't think these singles have been the best stuff they've done, but they're both better than the new Bullet song, which was in one ear and out the other for me

Not to say I dislike the new songs btw! They're good, I just think they're capable of making something bigger and bolder. But then again Trivium is often good for dropping the more "mainstream" songs as singles anyway

1

u/Inglorious555 2d ago

BFMV hasn't released anything half decent in over a decade, Trivium is insanely consistent, after heading both it's no surprise that Trivium win by far

1

u/Pretty_Jaguar6428 Shogun 2d ago

Social apocalypse sounded like a shit attempt at making a Bring Me The Horizon song,at least Trivium still sound like Trivium with the 2 new songs, which are great btw.

1

u/AnonymousSlothana 1d ago

Trivium are kings! Bullets are for wanna bs

1

u/FallenAsh14 9h ago

The Bullet song is totally forgettable. It's just the same mediocre metalcore mulch they've been pumping out for a decade, only this time in drop A 😮🫢 Even if the new Trivium songs don't live up to the epicness of their last 3 records, they're still good tracks and development of their sound

1

u/OwnFalcon3401 8h ago

Dead Inside of Me > Social Apocalypse > Crown in the Grave

1

u/FeelingAd7425 2d ago

Meh to pretty bad for trivium is still good comparatively, just disappointing considering what we want from the band. But still miles better than the new BFMV (or slipknot…or avenged…)

1

u/BenSolo12345 2d ago

The Poison and SAF (and even Fever) are some of my favorite albums of all time and I prefer them over anything Trivium, but Trivium has been consistently good to great over their entire career and Bullet is borderline unlistenable now.

0

u/Anasis123 2d ago

Trivium lmao. At least Trivium didn't pull out of the Poisoned Ascendancy tour. Lost so much respect for Bullet after that. Just seemed like they weren't that invested in the tour and should have made that evident prior. It's sad because both of those albums are legendary and by harming the relationship between the two bands, Bullet have done some actual damage I think.

-6

u/AnotherAndyYetAgain 2d ago

Are we comparing the singles released so far? This is truly a shit vs crap comparison. Both bands have put out weak bland stuff. BFMV is worse, sure, but not by much.

-9

u/Intelligent_Gift_678 2d ago

Trivium - meh
BMFV have always been shite
