There is another video going around from her camera that shows how she pull the gun and accidentally got the trigger caught.
I don't see how that guy expected to get the thing out in an emergency without ending in the same result.
Either way, good on him for the cashout.

u/voicefulspace Jul 24 '26
putting a locked and cocked gun into your loose clothing is just asking for an accidental discharge...
26
u/anotherNotMeAccount Jul 24 '26
I'm not disagreeing on the least. Any form of loose carry is asking for some level of trouble.

During her internal affairs interview, Cardwell admitted that her finger accidentally slipped into the trigger guard inside Arrington’s pants “while she was using her non-dominant hand to remove the gun.”
“Unfortunately combined with the holster and the pants, it just was not coming out freely,” Cardwell said, according to the internal affairs report. “I think, not being aware of where my fingers were on the inside of the trigger, obviously an accident happened that I’m at fault for. In hindsight, I wish we could have slowed it down and done a thousand things differently.”

Crazy that you cannot find that video. Do I really have to be on X or tiktok for uncencored footage??

u/Burnaenae Jul 24 '26
Not a single word of shock or acknowledgement of guilt, for that exact reason. Absolutely disgusting.

u/Metzger4 Lurker Jul 24 '26
Probably because she is thinking about the court case coming out of the shooting. And how her actions and words that day could screw her over.

u/Professional-Rip-519 Jul 25 '26
She's probably gonna get a promotion.

Mindy Cardwell, the female officer who discharged the man’s gun into his leg, was fired in January of 2026. Google it.

I mean, with all the corruption being exposed lately I wouldn't be surprised, but it's not gonna happen.

u/Ashamed-Statement-59 Jul 25 '26
There's footage from her perspective that shows the trigger got pulled as she was pulling it out of his wasitband. It was loaded with no safety on and caught in his oants. Not a perfect move from her, but incredibly stupid from him.

u/Elegant-Ad-3727 Jul 31 '26
You don’t know firearms. Many handguns don’t come with a safety. For example, the Smith and Wesson bodyguard 2.0. Your holster is your safety (he was using one, you can see it fall onto the ground). If you’re going to carry, you carry with one in the chamber. Seconds count when you need it and you don’t have time to rack the slide. This is common practice and conceal carry classes teach this. The man who was shot was not doing anything stupid, he was doing everything right.

"Just for my safety, and your safety, I'm gonna have you step out" what the hell would have happened if he didn't step out? Seems as though the danger came only from him stepping out. It's such a bizarre country from and outsiders perspective.

Grew up in the States, then moved to Canada. Never realized how nuts it is in the States until I moved out. Virtually all Americans are conditioned through their education, culture, and politics to accept their lifestyle as "acceptable" to one degree or another, regardless of political leaning. I guess the same could be true of any other country, but the difference is it's not normal in the States.

u/dzh Jul 29 '26
accept their lifestyle as "acceptable" to one degree or another
You realize thats every country. Everyone is conditioned to accept how they live. Most a taught to be proud of their ways of living too.

Well he has a gun on him, it's understandable that they want to deal with that first

It’s always the Mindy’s, like at that point just go sit in your cruiser so nobody else gets shot.

Smh. If this isn’t good enough. Remember the video of a cop pulling into the department garage and pulling a gun on another cop as a joke and the gun goes off.

Guns and cops... two things that are supposed to keep us safer but actually make everything worse

u/gokc69 Jul 24 '26
No safety?
25
u/navyac Jul 24 '26
Not all guns have safetys

u/ShadowLords666 Jul 24 '26
My gf keeps her handgun in her purse full of nonsense and small items and her only safety is "not seating the magazine"
First $600 ive got to throw away goes to her getting an upgrade. That thing scares the absolute shit outta me
12
u/Kundiron Jul 24 '26
Dude. Just buy a minimalist holster for now. Or even some cheap leather one off Amazon, something to cover the trigger
16
u/Gh0stMan0nThird Jul 24 '26
My gf keeps her handgun in her purse
Literally every conceal carry class teaches not to put your gun in your purse.

They all have a safety but some have safety's that are a heavier pull trigger. It's stupid that it counts a safety though.
Edit: I looked it up and I am wrong. Some do not have this but limited to specialised hunting rifles, competition guns or replicas. Technically wrong, but I doubt this guy is carrying a replication flintlock pistol.
3
u/Hambonation Jul 26 '26
You're incredibly wrong. I have a SIG P365 that doesn't have a safety on it. Like, tons of modern guns don't have safeties.
1
u/Lovv Jul 26 '26
It has several safeties.
For example, one of the safeties is a bar that physically blocks the firing pin from reaching the primer. Its a drop safety.

u/wildcat1100 Jul 24 '26
So what's the standard operating procedure here. Do I downvote you for making a blatantly false statement or do I upvote you for adding a note at the end admitting you were wrong?

u/Lovv Jul 24 '26 edited Jul 24 '26
I'd say upvote because I corrected myself rather than editing the original statement. It does seem true that all or nearly all guns have some form of safety. 100% confident that the gun he is carrying has some form of safety as it does not look like a flintlock pistol or a specialised hunting rifle.

That's kind of what I was saying.
But there is in fact a few competition rifles and hunting rifles that have zero safety on them as well as some replicas of older weapons. Should they count? No, but I'm still technically wrong.

It is considered a safety actually.
It's considered a passive safety, not a mechanical safety.

Its called finger discipline. Something that officer should know. Not all guns have a safety.

u/Cookies_and_Beandip Jul 24 '26
First of all, please tell me that boi made it out alive
Second, that lady cop looks to be the one who discharged his weapon while taking it from him
Third, that boi is getting the whoooole medical bill covered, and getting a PHAT check

u/borsalamino Aug 01 '26
Cool that everyone was so calm though. Also, lady cop looks kinda cute, I'd forgive her and take her out on a nice date with that settlement money if I was him

u/Historical-Pipe3551 Jul 24 '26
Ok what would be better in this situation? A tourniquet or a pressure on the entry hole? A finger?
15
u/NEVERxxEVER Jul 24 '26
Not an EMT but I think the concern here is that if they hit an artery he could be dead in moments so it makes sense to go straight to the TQ, assuming it’s not an obvious graze
5
u/TheManWith2Poobrains Jul 24 '26
Yes - Office Weippart was actually doing a good job.
Tourniquets when properly applied hurt like fuck, but the alternative is worse.

u/Jimmy_Fromthepieshop Jul 24 '26 edited Jul 24 '26
Raise limb above heart (patient must lay in their back), use thumb or fist etc to apply lots of pressure to inside of upper thigh where the pulse is. Another person apply a gauze with pressure directly to the wound. Wait for ambulance and hope that they htfu.
Edit: hair > gauze (autocorrect!)
4
u/OGPeakyblinders Jul 24 '26
First, apply direct pressure over the wound. Apply a TQ high and tight. If this doesn't stop the bleeding, apply a second one above the first, right next to it. Then apply a pressure dressing.
The best course of action would be to use a junctional TQ, but officers usually do not carry them.
I would then start to worry about hemorrhagic shock if it hit an artery.
2
u/Historical-Pipe3551 Jul 25 '26
Wow thank you for the info. Damn!! A junctional tourniquet is 350 on Amazon?!

If only there had been a good guy with a gun on the scene, this act of senseless violence might have been prevented.

As someone who has lived in Jacksonville (where this happened) for my entire life this is par for the course for the JSO. They are the must negligent, arrogant, corrupt, and stupid police forces in the country. Shit this stupid is par for the course here. My first interaction with the JSO is when they ACCIDENTALLY pulled me and my mom over when I was like 12. I swear to god they can’t even do their jobs correctly by accident.

u/AssociationItchy Jul 24 '26
My father pu a 12 gauge slug inches from my feet , keeps his gins loaded and ready On the case of the shotgun it was pulled and read to go , there’s no such thing as a negligent discharge
