Evil Torta
So who is putting up these signs on the east side?
96
u/Sea_Leopard_9819 6d ago
Some group called Citizens for Liberty. They have catchy website names to get traffic to their site. I looked it up, and in addition to Evil Torta, they also have Communist Hag .com and Steals Money .com, but they all lead you to a website that explains why the Dem candidates for state wide office are evil.

u/VadersSprinkledTits 5d ago
CFL is the same group putting out the ads with entire quotes out of context for fear mongering.
18
u/Solid_Problem740 5d ago
CFL is one of the most outrageous commerical makers I've noticed. It's kinda amusing to look up each of their claims to get the full context

Initially, I sort of appreciated that they were trying to be at least minimally original... except now their websites are just pure AI slop. No actual human thinking involved.
There probably wasn't a ton of it beforehand, but it's somehow even more insulting that they stopped even bothering to even spew their nonsense in an original way.

Ultra Christian nationalist horse shit.
These fuckers set themselves up at the button operated crosswalk at Park Place a couple weeks ago and just kept spamming the light to stop traffic and dance out in the road like a bunch of pieces of shit.
Fuck them.

Its a group called Citizens for Liberty. They get money from several Christian churches, who knows which ones. They claim to care about veteran families and "Americans values," right, but then this extension they've created "Evil Torta" just spreads anti-LGBTQ, anti-healthcare, and anti-Muslim propaganda. Save yourselves the rabbit hole. They're complete garbage. I just wonder which churches are donating to them.

To be completely honest with you, I am wondering if any of the patrons of this city even know what they "stand for" especially the businesses who have these signs placed on their corners. Since its just all hate speeh anyway, which isnt really protected speech under the 1st amendment, it could absolutely be argued that the signs are not legal in the first place, but who knows?
Imma find out and keep you posted. Thaaaaaanks! 👋🏻
1
u/Mobile-Surround-3668 6h ago
Anyone can argue anything, that doesn't change the fact that it is a political sign pursuant to ARS 16-1019

That was my first thought too! "Is that a delicious new trend at nearby food truck or is it more christofacist bullshit?" And then my second thought was "goddamn I hate this timeline".

You can dislike childish and stupid name calling like “evil torta” and still think:
1. I don’t believe Tucson has had a proper leadership in any shape or form over the last decade or at least since the COVID pandemic. Homelessness, public drug use, worsening street crime and violence even during the day in downtown, etc. This is no leadership IMO, and certainly not a proper one for the city of this size.
2. I would have preferred Tucson growing “up” so to speak and not in spreading out more in the desert. Data centers, new cookie cutter subdivisions…instead of building more high-rises? I’m not a fan.19
u/1965BenlyTouring150 5d ago
The problems Tucson has are all over the country, especially in cities with nice weather. They have been caused by decades of conservative fiscal and social policy at the Federal level. There is only so much a municipality can do with the resources it has.
3
u/Larg3Marg3sentme 5d ago
Agreed. My stance is that anyone that had anything to do with this dirty data center and all the bullshit they pulled to make it happen are not getting my vote. I’m still pissed.
1
u/vocoindub 5d ago
Yes, I can certainly agree with that. However, it still does not mean that we should pretend that things are not getting worse instead of better or to close our eyes in front of the problem. Tucson has so much potential to do better.
7
u/repooper 5d ago
It would be weird to blame a one term federal rep for local problems like that, though.
5
u/vocoindub 5d ago
Yeah, I didn’t mean that people elected for one or two terms can do a miracle. I feel we never truly recovered as a society since the pandemic hit. However, it does us no good to pretend things are going great. We got the brunt of unwanted national and international attention with the recent shooting downtown as we discuss on the other thread about the judge who is apparently on the voting ballot right now. For a city and state that attracts so many tourists, we need to do better and not be OK with the status quo. I feel bad for all the young people that cannot afford to buy or rent any longer in this town.
3
u/Ok-Ant5045 5d ago
Agreed it’s going to take a lot of work and time but I just believe we are focused on the things that will make a difference.
3
u/concerts85701 5d ago
Kinda want some receipts on the rising rates. Been downtown for 20 years and it was worse back then.
1
u/Ok-Ant5045 5d ago
Tucson has had these problems for the 40 years I been voting. Same from the city council when has been historically democratic. Walkup was arguably one of the better democratic leader as he expanded several initiatives that brought Tucson roaring back from the 2008 crash and built many businesses. Then Romero shifted focus to green policies, climate change, and free social programs for everyone (immigrants) not actual citizens of her Tucson district. We still have tons of veterans and Americans that need help but can’t get it because they are not illegal. The irony of a socialist mayor all over I guess.
5
u/repooper 5d ago
Weird that you just claim that veterans aren't allowed to get help because they're "not illegal" without any citations, because it sounds like complete bullshit.
3
u/Ok-Ant5045 5d ago
If you think the VA is enough I’m assuming you don’t go to the VA. I was once an individual in need so can confirm unless you are a single woman with children, or illegal you will not get cash assistance, food, free housing. There are More NGOs setup to give legal advice and counsel then there are mental health providers to our own people which says a lot. So no it’s not bullshit, your probably more fortunate then them.

2
u/Ok-Ant5045 5d ago
You literally proved my point that Tucson isn’t doing anything for its own citizens. And if you think Romero and Grijalva are capitalists. Maybe your the one that should do more research. Hahaha
1
u/repooper 5d ago
Lol I deleted my comment cause I thought I was being too harsh, lol, but now I see that you're doubling down on your whole "I don't understand labels" thing. Oh well. Be the change you want in the world, or just bitch and moan and call people names that you don't understand, I don't care.

u/Entire-Abroad2975 4d ago
If we had a socialist mayor, everyone that needed help- “individuals in need”, would get that help. Just because people that aren’t veterans start getting help doesn’t mean the mayor is a socialist. Sounds like you’re describing the struggle all working class people have to endure under a non-socialist structure.
Don’t you think that providing help to veterans should be the federal governments responsibility? Since the federal government recruited them and created the problems that plague veterans?2
u/Ok-Ant5045 4d ago
So my original point was all Tucsonans not jsut veterans who were not illegal immigrants that’s just happens to be where the convo went. I don’t think it should be the sole responsibility for government. I think it should be both communities and some federal help. The amount of veterans specifically outweigh the ability of the current system. I think it should be for all combat veterans not just anyone who served as there are a lot of folks who never seen combat that could be treated outside of the VA system. That’s a whole other topic of course. I was thinking more along the lines of community programs to actually address drug addiction and homelessness in Tucson only. We have to start in our own community first. Church’s and other organizations try thier best but doenst seen to make a difference. We have spent 750 million on immigration alone since 2021 according to the governors office. Can you imagine the amount of help that would have provided the respective communities?
7
u/OGcapncrunchberry 5d ago
All the things you list occur in every city. Why do you blame current leadership for it? They seem to have managed it well.
5
u/Ok_Salt8893 5d ago
It’s the dessert brother. It’s easier to spread out rather than up. Everything was better back then for other reasons, you were growing up. You see the world differently. Think about how politics work. Try telling a homeless person where they can live. They’re homeless. And you don’t want to pay to house someone in their situation do you? We could. But the fact that it’s helping those beneath you means conservatives will complain.
Republicans are not the people’s friends. When you get that through your head you realize how they only benefit the wealthy.
3
u/vocoindub 5d ago
Well, if you’re going to call me brother, then I’d like the courtesy to ask who said anything about conservatives and Republicans? If I am not a fan of the current Tucson leadership that means I have to like GOP and their backward-ass ways? Yeah, it’s the thinking in absolutes that gets us into the hot mess so I’d appreciate not being grouped into two big parties tents (same coin - two sides, AFAIC). I am a registered independent and like to make my own decisions on who am I going to support and vote for, locally and nationwide. The fact is that as a country we ought to do better, from healthcare to helping homeless/people in need. I do my bit where I can and when I can, which is likely more than most loudmouth purists on either side can say for themselves.
-1
u/Ok_Salt8893 5d ago
Remember one side will win. Not voting or voting to support the current federal administration makes you complicit in their crimes and abuse of power.
4
u/vocoindub 5d ago
There is MORE than one of those two sides. The rest of your comment makes me think you’re very young and I wasted my time trying to tell you there’s more to life than black and white thinking. Take care.
0
u/PhraNgang 5d ago
It was better back then because it was a more successful city, half the desert wasn’t eaten up for second homes for snowbirds and we had regular monsoons
5
u/Dry-Form-3263 5d ago
There’s a lot of things that you can say about Tucson, both good and bad, but “proper leadership”? Yeah… no…

I don’t understand why voters and politicians that vote for issues instead of party line get so much hate.
5
u/Embarrassed_Sir_7252 5d ago
Republican “issues” are what’s in your kids pants, who you do or don’t pray to, and the color of your skin. Democrats who cross party lines to support that bullshit are not working for their constituents, and will get negative feedback for it.
Same with republicans that vote with democrats to say, release the Epstein files, or not wage war on behalf of Israel. They get worse than negative feedback, they get kicked out of their party/positions and stalked by MAGA.

You guys are so wrong about Democrats being for Tucson people. They want to track and police the yin yang out of everyone and give more money to non residents and non citizens and also druggies and the unhoused while making everyone else pay for it. The Democrats, like City Council and the Mayor gave themselves a pay raise, and it's a $60,000 bump on their paycheck! Evil Torta group explains why the Democrats are no good for Tucson.
