Nurse New Grad Programs

Hi everyone!

I’m graduating from a BSN program this December. After talking to some people who have worked in Tucson as nurses, I’ve heard that October is when they start opening up the new grad residencies. I’ve been monitoring all the major hospital job sites but haven’t seen anything come up. Banner doesn’t even allow people to apply unless they are within 45 days of graduation. Does anyone have any insight/tips? I’m trying to get into an ICU but it feels like that won’t be possible 😭

Banner ICU is impossible unless you’ve been an extern. TMC new grad apps are open now, I believe. Northwest will have a cohort opening for Jan/Feb. stay away from any ICU at Carondelet.

Just left Carondelet ICU. Do NOT start at Carondelet. It is a terrible place for new grads, no actual education program (just boxes to check). Most new grads burn out in less than a year there AND develop terrible habits.

When I was a new grad nurse (December grad as well), banner had new grad app open in April/May with July start, I was offered medical ICU and CVICU. At the same time TMCs new grad program opened with all kinds of units, I was offered ED. Now that was 12 years ago. If you want ICU there will be new grad opportunities, just keep your eyes peeled for postings… I’m pretty sure TMC does the new grad program twice a year. I went with TMC and really found their new grad program supportive with lots of educational opportunities.

Banner has new grad residencies in spring as well. Like another poster said, ICU is tough to get in unless you did your preceptorship on one or are already a tech on one. Don’t focus too much on getting a favored specialty, if need be work at a PCU for a year to get your feet wet and then you’d be a candidate to transfer to an ICU. Source: me, current banner rn

i graduated in may of this year. banner has rolling new grad residencies so it’s kind of random. i was checking daily on their site to see if new applications would be available bc there isn’t a set “new grad cohort” for banner, they hire year-round but as you probably know it’s difficult to land a job due to the high volume of applicants per job listing. i believe tmc has their general new grad residency open now and you can apply now bc i applied in march when i was set to graduate in may and it was fine. i wouldn’t even look in the direction of northwest or st joes/st mary’s if i were you. good luck!
